A Heartfelt Reflection on Resilience after the Election:

Jimmie Kaska | Wednesday, November 6, 6:51 PM

The AP has called the U.S. Senate race in Wisconsin for Tammy Baldwin.

Dan Shafer | Wednesday, November 6, 6:11 PM

Here's how the election results settled in the Wisconsin State Assembly.

Democrats made expected gains overall, but Republicans won several key toss-up races and will maintain control of the legislature.

2) People continued to feel worse about their personal financial situation throughout the Biden presidency. Ingredients were in place for a change election.

Dan Shafer | Wednesday, November 6, 5:57 PM

Going back to these two charts from the final Marquette poll. 1) Biden was an unpopular incumbent president, and his approval rating was lower than Trump's.

Dan Shafer | Wednesday, November 6, 5:41 PM

In the eight toss-up Assembly races we identified in our state legislature preview, it looks like Republicans will win five. They'll also win the 51st, which looked like a Dem pick-up. Still waiting on some final calls, but it looks like a 54-45 GOP majority in the Assembly.

Dan Shafer | Wednesday, November 6, 3:20 PM

It looks like Wisconsin will end up with the closest margin of the seven swing states in the presidential election. Typically, Wisconsin has voted to the right of Pennsylvania and Michigan. This year, it's a bit to the left, but not enough to be decisive for Harris.

Dan Shafer | Wednesday, November 6, 3:18 PM

Going into last night, four of the last six presidential elections in Wisconsin were decided by a less than 1% margin. This looks to now be the fifth in the last seven, with Trump at 49.7% to Harris' 48.8%.

Dan Shafer | Wednesday, November 6, 3:17 PM

In the presidential election, only four of Wisconsin's 72 counties shifted toward Democrats from 2020 to 2024 (Waukesha, Ozaukee, Washington, Door). Map from the New York Times.

Decision Desk has called the U.S. Senate race for Tammy Baldwin. They typically call before the major networks. It looks like she's going to hang on with a narrow re-election victory. When Ron Johnson won two years ago, it was the closest U.S. Senate race Wisconsin had seen in more than 100 years. This one looks like it could be even closer.

Dan Shafer | Wednesday, November 6, 3:11 PM

Here's how the election results settled in the Wisconsin State Senate.

Democrats won all four of the closest races -- Jodi Habush Sinykin (SD8), Sarah Keyeski (SD14), Kristin Alfheim (SD18), Jamie Wall (SD30) -- and will put the balance of power in play in 2026.

Jimmie Kaska | Wednesday, November 6, 10:36 AM

The AP has called Wisconsin for Trump, giving him more than 270 electoral votes. The AP is also calling the presidential race for Trump.

Jimmie Kaska | Wednesday, November 6, 10:34 AM

Some late-night vote tallies are now up, with results coming in from Milwaukee: Tammy Baldwin takes the lead in the race for U.S. Senate with 97% of estimated ballots counted statewide, holding a ~16k vote margin over Eric Hovde as of 4:30 a.m.

Dan Shafer | Wednesday, November 6, 8:47 AM

Just in: Jodi Habush Sinykin is declaring victory in Senate District 8. Big win for Democrats in the State Senate, defeating Duey Stroebel.

David Hyland | Wednesday, November 6, 8:25 AM

Source in the Baldwin campaign says they are “confident with the remaining votes left to count in Democratic strongholds,” adding, “We will take the lead and we will win.”

David Hyland | Wednesday, November 6, 7:38 AM

Dan Shafer | Wednesday, November 6, 7:28 AM

With the caveat that many of the still-uncalled races will break blue once various Central Count results drop (13, 14, 66, 90 most likely for Dems), here's where I have the Assembly map at the moment.

David Hyland | Wednesday, November 6, 7:26 AM

Dan Shafer | Wednesday, November 6, 6:28 AM

Looks like Republican Todd Novak will win again in Assembly District 51. The math was against him in this race but he's proven to be very resilient in close races. With that, it looks like the Democrats' chances of winning the Assembly majority are as good as gone.

Dan Shafer | Wednesday, November 6, 6:15 AM

Democrat Sarah Keyeski is going to win the toss-up race in Senate District 14. That victory will end the Republican supermajority in the State Senate.

Savanna Tomei-Olson | Wednesday, November 6, 5:49 AM

The crowd has thinned at the watch party for Senator Tammy Baldwin here at the Orpheum.

Dan Shafer | Wednesday, November 6, 5:46 AM

Just in: Brad Pfaff is declaring victory in Senate District 32.

Dan Shafer | Wednesday, November 6, 5:42 AM

Tara Johnson looks to be on track to win in Assembly District 96 in the La Crosse area. Her lead is less than 1,000 votes, but it looks like they're only waiting on votes from La Crosse County, where she's winning more than 60% of the vote.

Dan Shafer | Wednesday, November 6, 5:28 AM

Brad Pfaff looks on track to win re-election in Senate District 32. There are some Republican-leaning votes still out there from Monroe County, but might not be enough for Republican challenger Stacey Klein to overcome Pfaff's lead.

David Hyland | Wednesday, November 6, 5:19 AM

Dan Shafer | Wednesday, November 6, 5:15 AM

Democrat Christian Phelps is in good shape in Assembly District 93. This district is in the Eau Claire area, and is the most blue-leaning of the three there. A Likely D seat, looks like it'll be a pick-up for Democrats.

David Hyland | Wednesday, November 6, 5:08 AM

Tonight, I'm going to be focusing on state legislative races. Here is our baseline in the Senate. Only half of state senators are on the ballot this year (because they serve four year terms), and those senators tip 12-5 in favor of Republicans. But, five Democrats are running unopposed, so that brings the balance to 12-10 as we start seeing election results from around the state.
