U.S. Rep. Gwen Moore, D-Wis., has won reelection Tuesday in her bid to represent Wisconsin’s 4th Congressional District, defeating Republican Tim Rodgers.
The Associated Press called the race for Moore at 8:50 p.m. She had received 109,555 votes, or 72 percent, compared to Rodgers’ 37,414 votes, or 24.6 percent, with about 44. 5 percent of precincts reporting.
The 4th Congressional District consists of Milwaukee County, including the city of Milwaukee and suburbs like West Milwaukee, Wauwatosa, Glendale, Shorewood, Whitefish Bay, Fox Point, Bayside, Brown Deer and most of West Allis.
Moore was born in Racine and raised in Milwaukee. She graduated from Marquette University. She served in the state Assembly from 1989 to 1992 and the state Senate from 1993 to 2004. She was elected to the U.S. House in 2004 and was the first African-American woman in state history to serve in the U.S. House. She was reelected to the House nine times. She serves on the House Ways and Means Committee.
Rodgers is a Milwaukee native who studied at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside and Milwaukee Area Technical College.
