Budgets And A Garden Of Heroes (Hour 1)
In breaking news, The Wisconsin Supreme Court in a 4-3 decision has invalided the controversial 1849 Abortion Ban. Also, and we planned for this to be the big news, but The Big Bill For Billionaires has passed with the help of Senator Ron Johnson. Also, what would you do with $40 million? I'll bet it wouldn't be to build a "garden of heroes". Then, because we are off for the Fourth Of July, we are joined by Civic Media's Political Editor Dan Shafer to talk about the tentative state budget, a third term for Governor Tony Evers(?) and Dan's new best friend on Twitter.

Fair Maps, Fair Budget (Hour 1)
We’ll review reaction to the new state budget deal, perhaps best summed up as having something for everyone to like—and hate. The Joint Finance Committee passed it on Tuesday, so the full Senate and Assembly will both be in session today to consider it. Meanwhile, the US Senate passed the largest transfer of wealth and ending of healthcare coverage in American history—but that doesn’t mean Republicans in the US House will send it on to President Trump.

BREAKING NEWS: State Budget Passes In JFC (Hour 1)
Between state politics, national politics, and sports, the headlines are flying by at a dizzying rate. As we begin to unpack today’s news, Civic Media Sports Reporter Mike Clemens calls in to explain exactly what’s going down in the NBA draft. The Milwaukee Bucks have made some unexpected moves in efforts to assemble a younger team around superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo.
After breaking down the sports news, Todd moves on to state budget news. While nothing is set in stone, Governor Evers has announced a potential budget deal that includes compromises on funding childcare and higher education while still prioritizing GOP tax cut initiatives. State Senator Kelda Roys joins us once again to share her thoughts on this deal and how she would like to improve it.
You know it’s a crazy news day when our next guest is discombobulated. At the bottom of the hour, Civic Media Political Editor and Founder of The Recombobulation Area Dan Shafer returns to bring his perspective on the breaking budget news. During our show, the Joint Finance Committee took up a vote on this budget proposal, passing it with a 13-3 vote. State Senator LaTonya Johnson is among the Democrats voting yes, while State Senator Kelda Roys voted no.

Is Perfect the Enemy of ‘Good Enough’? (Hour 3)
We’ll review the newly-announced bipartisan state budget agreement with Dan Shafer of The Recombobulation Area. It’s a deal that falls far short of what you’d see if Gov. Evers and advocates of education, child care, and health care had their way—and it’s far more than what would result if Republicans controlled the governor’s office. But is it enough to quell the voices telling Evers to veto the deal for not going far enough.

BREAKING: GOP Reaches Across Aisle For Budget (Hour 1)
Happy Friday! To kick off today’s show, Civic Media Political Editor and founder of The Recombobulation Area Dan Shafer joins us live from the WAUK studios to share some breaking news. Ostensibly, the Republican-led state legislature is finally getting serious about passing a state budget. Realizing that they cannot do it on their own, they have now invited Democratic State Senator Dianne Hesselbein to the table for negotiations. While this move inspires some hope that a budget may yet be passed by July, we maintain a healthy skepticism. Yesterday’s Joint Finance Committee meeting was rescheduled to 10 am today before being delayed twice more to 2 pm and now 4 pm as we began our show.
After that discussion, we are joined once again by our friend and legal expert Matt Flynn. Yesterday, we spoke with him about some state Supreme Court decisions. Today, the national Supreme Court has released an opinion that may put birthright citizenship in danger.

In our second hour, it's time to Recombobulate the news with Civic Media's Political Editor, Dan Shafer. The Marquette Law School put out a new poll and one of the questions is a controversial topic brought up by Dan a few weeks ago. We also talk about two guys from the coasts who might wanna be Governor. Then for Audio Sorbet, we want to know: do you prefer day weddings to night weddings? And the wedding bells are ringing with This Shouldn't Be A Thing - That's A'lotta A'more Edition.

Budget Battles and Childcare Challenges
Maggie and Political Editor Dan Shafer unpack Wisconsin’s escalating budget crisis, focusing on the looming collapse of childcare funding as subsidies near expiration. With Republicans stalling budget negotiations, Governor Tony Evers is urged to take a firmer stand to protect working families from the growing threat of childcare deserts. Maggie calls on him to harness public support to defend education, childcare, and other vital services. Madison Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway joins the conversation with "Broad Appeal" to highlight how state and federal budget decisions affect local communities, from housing to shared revenue. Mayor Rhodes-Conway urges us all to get involved and help shape a more equitable future.

Score One for Clean Water (Hour 1)
For the better part of 15 years, it would not have been a surprise to report that the Wisconsin Supreme Court, then under conservative control, was considering a rollback of clean water regulations. But with a progressive majority in place, the court on Tuesday upheld the state’s spills laws that ensure faster cleanup and accountability when it comes to things like industrial PFAS chemicals in our drinking water.

Win Wisconsin, Control Congress (Hour 3)
We’ll talk to Dan Shafer of The Recombobulation Area about a new Washington Post story on Wisconsin’s congressional districts and how the possibility of a mid-decade change in district maps could swing Congress to Democratic control.

Wisconsin’s Budget Battle and Timber Triumphs
Maggie Daun explores the intersection of politics and policy in Wisconsin, featuring Dan Schafer's interview with Senator Raphael Warnock, who made a powerful impression at Wisconsin Democratic state convention. They dive into the heated state budget debate, where Republicans are proposing an $87 million cut to the UW System—despite a $4 billion surplus—raising alarms over potential campus closures and urging public pushback. Later, Jeramy Jannene joins for "Milwaukee As A Microcosm." He spotlights Milwaukee’s innovative use of mass timber in construction, a sustainable approach that could transform the city’s skyline and boost economic development. And in another edition of "Ask Maggie," Maggie discusses her idea of a favorite summer road trip reflections and encourages us to enjoy Wisconsin’s great outdoors.
