MILWAUKEE (Civic Media) – Donald Trump announced that he is picking Ohio Sen. J.D. Vance as his running mate.

Trump made the announcement Monday on Truth Social.

Trump will formally introduce Vance as his pick for vice president at the Republican National Convention Monday afternoon.

Vance was selected over other potential nominees such as Florida Sen. Marco Rubio and North Dakota Gov. Doug Bergum.

Vance, who was elected to the Senate in 2022, endorsed Trump for president in 2020 and 2024. Trump in turn endorsed Vance for his Senate run in 2022.

“After lengthy deliberation and thought, and considering the tremendous talents of many others, I have decided that the person best suited to assume the position of Vice President of the United States is Senator J.D. Vance of the Great State of Ohio,” Trump wrote.

On Monday, Trump was officially nominated as the Republican presidential candidate by the RNC. The nomination came just two days after an apparent assassination attempt of Trump in western Pennsylvania.
