MILWAUKEE (Civic Media) – Former President Donald Trump will attend the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee after an apparent assassination attempt in Pennsylvania Saturday.

The Milwaukee 2024 Host Committee and the Trump Campaign both confirmed in statements that Trump would attend the RNC.

Trump said in a statement that he was hit by a bullet while he was speaking at a campaign rally in Butler, Penn. Saturday afternoon. Videos of the rally showed blood coming from his ear.

“I was shot with a bullet that pierced the upper part of my right ear,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “I knew immediately that something was wrong in that I heard a whizzing sound, shots, and immediately felt the bullet ripping through the skin.”

According to a release by the Secret Service, two people, including one spectator and the shooter, were killed. The release added that two other spectators “were critically injured.”

Secret Service spokesperson Anthony Guglielmi confirmed the shooter was positioned outside the rally.

Trump’s campaign said that the former president is doing well. Reince Priebus, the chair of the 2024 Host Committee, said in a statement that “this horrific violence has no place in America.”

President Joe Biden said he’s “grateful to hear that he’s safe and doing well.”

“There’s no place for this kind of violence in America,” Biden said in a statement. “We must unite as one nation to condemn it.”

Biden spoke shortly after releasing the statement and said that he tried to reach Trump, but he was with his doctors.

“Look, there is no place in America for this kind of violence,” Biden said. “It’s sick.  It’s sick.  It’s one of the reasons why we have to unite this country.  We cannot allow for this to be happening.  We cannot be like this.  We cannot condone this.”

Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers condemned the shooting and said that his staff is helping coordinate security planning for the RNC

“We cannot be a country that accepts political violence of any kind—that is not who we are as Americans,” Evers said. “Thank you to the first responders who acted quickly, putting themselves and their safety at risk in order to respond to a horrific act of violence and keep people safe.”

Milwaukee will be in focus as the RNC begins this week, and host committee chair Reince Preibus said that people are already coming to Wisconsin.

“We look forward to working with the Republican National Committee to welcome everyone to Milwaukee this week,” Preibus said.

Trump’s campaign confirmed in a statement that the former president would be in Milwaukee.

“President Trump looks forward to joining you all in Milwaukee as we proceed with our convention to nominate him to serve as the 47th President of the United States.”

The RNC begins officially on Monday, but on Sunday, there are welcoming events for attendees of the convention. More than 50,000 people are expected to be headed to Milwaukee for the convention.
