Governor Tony Evers faced a long list of questions during his recent guest segment on UpNorthNews Radio. Show host Pat Kreitlow armed and ready to ask the Governor about topics ranging from redistricting to the economy and even his favorite comfort food.
There are moments of seriousness. One example includes when Kreitlow asks the Governor for his thoughts about the State Supreme Court ordering new district boundary lines be drawn after ruling the Republican-drawn legislative maps are unconstitutional. He also asks if Evers recalls where he was when he heard about the decision.
“Um, where was I,” the Governor pondered. “I’m sure I was on the road somewhere in the state. But the very basic idea is that we have to have competitive races.”
What he did not do was point fingers at either party, instead describing the state of the state as being in good shape.
We were able to work together to make some good things happen. We don’t agree on everything, but by making an attempt to talk things out, we can learn from each other.

“You know, even with the disagreements at the Capitol, I still signed more bills than I vetoed,” Governor Evers says. “We were able to work together to make some good things happen. We don’t agree on everything, but by making an attempt to talk things out, we can learn from each other.”
Kreitlow also asks the Governor if there’s a specific part of him that remains as a former teacher, and if he could be back in a classroom again, what would he want to do?
“I would go back to Tomah and teach biology,” the Governor says. “And the thing that sticks with me from my time as a teacher is listening. I believe there are so many good things going on in the Capitol, yet the more I’m away from it, the more I am learning from residents across the state. And I listen. And because I listen, I’m still always learning, too.”
Some of the lighter topics include questions like squeaky or deep fried cheese curds, the kind of books and movies the Governor enjoys, and where “up north” begins.
“I think it’s easy for many people to answer Minocqua,” Governor Evers says. “But I feel going up north is more of a mind thing or a feeling, much less a specific road or city. If I have to answer it, I would say for me, up north starts in the Wausau area.”
So many questions, and a few, both serious and funny, the Governor couldn’t or wouldn’t answer.
“Who would portray you in a movie,” Kreitlow asks. “And would your wife have anything to say about it?”
“I can’t answer that,” Governor Evers says, while laughing.
