Trygve Olson

Civic Media Spotlight for March 22nd & 23rd (Hour 1)

March 22, 2025

First this weekend, we check out a conversation between the Maggie Daun Show and Dr. Melinda Brennan, Executive Director of the Wisconsin ACLU. Dr. Brennan joins Maggie to discuss how the current immigration practices will affect Wisconsin's economy and why all of us should care how immigrants are cared for.

Then, on UpNorthNews Radio, Pat Kreitlow answers a listener’s question about the difference between billionaire Elon Musk backing Brad Schimel in the state Supreme Court race and billionaire George Soros backing Susan Crawford. The answer gets to the heart of whether any one super-rich business owner should be able to try to purchase justices to sway cases toward their own businesses and profits.

After that, on Matenaer On Air, the show speaks with Dave Wilde who suffers from MS, as well as Autism and he shares his story of receiving Medicare and Medicaid benefits and the shameful way he, along with others, were treated to get those benefits. He also speaks on how difficult some states make it to receive benefits and sometimes in embarrassing and borderline dehumanizing fashions.

Last for this hour, Trygve Olson of The Lincoln Project joins the Todd Allbaugh Show to discuss the effects that Trump's tariffs will have on Wisconsinites. A mind-boggling 10% of Wisconsin jobs will be directly impacted, and 77% of those folks voted for Trump. What do they get? A big middle finger.

More BS From Brad Schimel About Milwaukee (Hour 1)

March 19, 2025

As Rush says in the song Freewill, “if you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice.” Make sure to be a voter on April 1st in our State Supreme Court election.

It’s Wednesday, and Trygve Olson of The Lincoln Project is here to help sift through the onslaught of news.

As published in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel this morning, Brad Schimel continues to spread misinformation about the security of voting in our state. Schimel is complaining about “late-night ballot dumps” in Milwaukee county. However, the reason Milwaukee submits their vote counts late at night is due to Republican legislative obstruction that doesn’t allow them to verify or count votes ahead of election night.

Trygve also brings us some news on how the Trump administration’s tariffs will impact Wisconsin. It turns out that 10% of jobs in our state will be negatively impacted by tariffs. 77% of those 10% of people voted for Donald Trump.

BR-549 On The White House Lawn (Hour 1)

March 12, 2025

It’s Wednesday, and Trygve Olson of The Lincoln Project is here to dissect the news of the day.

Yesterday, President Trump demonstrated his inability to drive a car as he attempted to sell Teslas on the White House lawn. In return, he received $100 million from Elon Musk, donated in such a way that Trump can easily use it for personal purposes. Todd and Trygve also talk about some ways the Trump administration continues to violate the Constitution.

At the end of the hour, Pat Kreitlow of UpNorthNews Radio joins us in-studio to talk about an event he will host tonight. In Protecting Justice For All, Pat will be joined by Dan Shafer and Todd to talk about why this April’s state supreme court race matters to all of us.

Civic Media Spotlight for the Weekend of March 8th & 9th (Hour 1)

March 8, 2025

To begin the hour, Trygve Olson of The Lincoln Project shares some new research from the Lincoln Democracy Institute with the Todd Allbaugh Show. For the last year, they've been talking with thousands of Americans in swing states, including Wisconsin. These discussions went far beyond the typical poll, asking not just what people think, but WHY they think it. The results can teach us a lot about connecting with our neighbors and having difficult discussions.

Then on the Dom Salvia Show, Dom and Earl Ingram discuss a potential looming recession due to the economic chaos of the second Trump administration. The news is bad but the discussion is great!

Next on the Maggie Daun Show, Maggie is joined by guest co-host Tom Palzewicz. Jeff, a conservative caller from Superior, explains why he believes Trump has the right to change laws. Turns out the Constitution, as Jeff believes, does not give Trump that right.

Finally, Milwaukee Film Critic, Matt Mueller joins the Nite Lite with Pete Schwaba. Matt and Pete talk about Adrien Brody's long acceptance speech at the Oscars, the winners of awards and their thoughts, and what should've been nominated but wasn't.

Looking At The World Through Different Lenses (Hour 2)

March 5, 2025

Trygve Olson of The Lincoln Project sticks around into our second hour today to share some new research from the Lincoln Democracy Institute. He and his colleagues spent the last year interviewing thousands of people from Wisconsin and other swing states to ascertain better ways to connect with everyday Americans both in and out of politics. As Trygve has said before, you will never shame somebody out of their opinion. It may sound simple, but when having a conversation with somebody we don’t agree with, we must listen. If you can’t understand why they believe what they believe, you’ll have a very difficult time convincing them of anything.

As wet snow falls across much of Wisconsin, Todd asks us What’s Worse: slippery roads or slippery people? We take your calls and texts with opinions.

The results of the latest Marquette Law School poll are now available, and Todd shares some of the key results as we close out today’s show.

Dissecting Trump’s Speech with Pat and Trygve (Hour 1)

March 5, 2025

It’s Wednesday, so our friends Pat Kreitlow of UpNorthNews Radio and Trygve Olson of The Lincoln Project are back to discuss the news of the day! They join Todd in recapping last night’s presidential address from Trump. As expected, it was a campaign speech with very little basis in reality. Trump focused on creating clips that will spread like wildfire on social media. He either misspoke or lied about Social Security payments and transgenic mice, which he referred to as “transgender mice.”

Towards the end of the hour, Trygve takes calls with a wide range of political questions from listeners.

Celebrating Public Schools Week with Mike Johnson (Hour 1)

February 26, 2025

This Wednesday, Pat Kreitlow is out of town, but Trygve Olson of The Lincoln Project joins us from the nation’s capital to cover the news with a touch of sports.

According to a new article from CNN, the Trump administration is restricting which news organizations are allowed to have White House correspondents. Reputable stalwarts like Associated Press will no longer have access to the White House. This move sets a dangerous precedent in American news that even Fox News reporters disagree with. Our country is now one step closer to state-run media.

At the bottom of the hour, we welcome Trygve’s friend Mike Johnson back to the show. Johnson is the Superintendent of the Eau Claire Area Public School District, and he’s here to celebrate Public Schools Week! In Wisconsin, public schools are the cornerstone of our communities.

Is A “Workhorse, Not A Show Horse” Enough In 2025? (Hour 1)

February 19, 2025

It’s Wednesday, so our friends Pat Kreitlow of UpNorthNews Radio and Trygve Olson of The Lincoln Project are back to discuss the news of the day!

Last night, Governor Tony Evers delivered his 2025 Wisconsin State Budget Address. While the substance was largely good, Todd wasn’t a fan of the delivery. Pat and Trygve share their takes, and we listen to what you think of Evers and his ability to work for Wisconsin.

Towards the end of the hour, we lean on Trygve’s European expertise to cover some international news. Over the last few days, President Donald Trump has been spreading misinformation on social media about the Russia-Ukraine war.
