Weekly Best of Dom Salvia Show for Dec 14

December 14, 2024

Catch up on this week's best segments!

First, from Monday's second hour, a conversation with our favorite DELANO DEMOCRAT (Dom's making it a thing), Harvey Kaye. What do Democrats need to do to start winning again?

Next, revisiting Tuesday's second hour where we covered the 10 new charges levied against Wisconsin's fake electors. We also spent significant time covering this subject on Thursday with Jim Santelle. Listen to him disagree with Dom's glee over the new charges during our second hour with Jim.

Speaking of Jim Santelle, come back to our first hour with him on Thursday for the next segment. Did undercover FBI agents instigate the January 6th, 2021 assault on the Capitol?

Finally, wrap up with a bit of poetry as we come back to our second hour with Matt Rothschild on Wednesday. Take a few minutes to appreciate Nikki Giovanni's revolutionary life and words.

Sports, Health, and Poetry (Hour 2)

December 11, 2024

Matt Rothschild cohosts today. Starting the hour, some sports talk. Political news if often overwhelming, so we each have ways to decompress. Dom's choice is usually to watch a game. However, Dom found politics creeping in last night as he noticed referees wearing Emirates' badges on their uniforms. Doing as Dom does, he went to the Google to see what was up, and found that the Emirates were named the official airline partner of the NBA. This led to further Googling, where Dom learned that the 2034 World Cup will be held in Saudi Arabia. Both the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia have unsavory records on human rights. These events appear to be the latest in "sportswashing".

At the bottom of the hour, we bring updates on the murder of Brian Thompson, who was CEO of United Healthcare.

We finish the show with a reflection on the life of Nikki Giovanni, an American poet, activist, and author who created extensively on themes of Black joy and social justice. For an enlightening experience, watch this conversation between Nikki Giovanni and James Baldwin.

Searching, searching for a backbone… Nothing.(Hour 1)

December 11, 2024

Matt Rothschild cohosts today. This hour, we're covering current FBI Director Christopher Wray's announcement that he plans to step down from the position in January before Trump takes office. Wray's announcement is the latest act of obedience in advance, in direct contrast to Timothy Snyder's urging to resist fascism. If he had an iota of backbone, Wray could have held his position- which lasts 10 years to keep the FBI independent from overt politics- instead of resigning so Trump can install Kash Patel.

December 6, 2024

To help kick off today's second hour, guest host Matt Rothschild is joined by State Senator-elect Jodi Habush Sinykin! She speaks on the effectiveness of going door-to-door in today's modern world. She also relives her bittersweet emotions from election night between her own win and Harris's loss.

After a brief discussion on the cowardice of shows like Morning Joe, Matt welcomes another Matt to talk about some lighter topics. Matt Reetz, Executive Director of the Southwestern Wisconsin Bird Alliance, brings us into the weekend! Matt and Matt discuss how they discovered the joys of birdwatching and what kinds of work the SWBA does. On Blanket Pardons and Act 10 (Hour 1)

December 6, 2024

Dom has the day off, so our favorite birdwatcher Matt Rothschild is in the guest host chair! After President Biden pardoned his son Hunter, Americans are wondering whether he will issue mass pardons to potential targets of the incoming Trump administration. Matt takes your calls on whether you think it's a good idea.

At the bottom of the hour, Matt is joined by Jeff Mandell, President and General Counsel of Law Forward. Law Forward is a nonprofit law firm dedicated to protecting democracy in our state, and they have been instrumental in getting fairer maps. Most recently, they helped lead the push to throw out Act 10. Jeff explains the alleged goals of Act 10, detailing why its language is illogical and betrays the bill's partisan motives. Instead of a clear delineation between "general" and "public safety" workers, Act 10 contains arbitrary definitions that line up with Scott Walker's supporters at the time it was passed. Matt also asks Jeff about Law Forward's other accomplishments over the last several years.

Health Care, it can get heated (Hour 2)

December 4, 2024

Today, the Supreme Court of the United States heard arguments on the constitutionality of a Tennessee law that bans all gender-affirming medication and procedures for transgender minors. As a note, cisgender minors can still access gender affirming care. This disparity led the ACLU to file their lawsuit against Tennessee, which has now escalated to our highest court. Chase Strangio, one of the lawyers representing three Tennessee families who have struggled under the repressive law- himself transgender- issued an op-ed on the matter that we recommend for a read.

In other news today, the CEO of United Healthcare was murdered. With details hazy, there's too much room for speculation.

On Demons and Promotions(Hour 1)

December 4, 2024

Matt Rothschild cohosts for the day. First up, checking in on President-elect Trump's cabinet and senior leadership picks. As pressure mounts on Pete Hegseth for sexual and drunken misconduct and mismanagement of two veterans' affairs organizations, his nomination for Secretary of Defense sways. Pete came to his own defense in a Wall Street Journal editorial, while it seems Trump is now considering another Florida man for the position.

Then we turn our attention to the Democratic National Committee. Wisconsin Dems Chair, Ben Wikler, announced this week his intent to seek the top leadership spot with the DNC. Dom, Matt, and Jess all think he'd be swell, though we'd miss him in Wisconsin.
