Remembering Mr. President

January 2, 2025

In hour two, the guys laugh about John's real-life Curb Your Enthusiasm moment, where he avoided saying hello to Chris Kammer in Costco. We send our well-wishes to Rökker as he recovers from a heart attack, then dive back into the issue of H-1B visas, this time getting Trump's ever changing opinion on the program bringing in cheap skilled immigrant workers. Brittney Merlot joins us for a collective complaint session on the wind chill as well as a look at the forecast, before we welcome on attorney and host of Amicus: A Law Review Jim Santelle, who speaks about his time working as an intern under Jimmy Carter, and the accomplishments of an often overlooked president. They also get into some news about SCOTUS, covering John Roberts' warning to elected officials (Trump) on defying the court's rulings.

A Smokescreen of Chaos (Hour 2)

December 27, 2024

Jim Santelle, host of Amicus, a law review, joins us as cohost. As in his first term, President-Elect Trump is setting us up for a chaotic four years. We can expect to receive updates on domestic and foreign policy from unusual sources. Like late night social media rants, multi-hour rambling screeds in front of screaming fans, and troves of reposted half-formed conspiracy theories. This week's outrage bomb comes in the form of Trump's demand for Panama to give us back their prized eponymous canal, an offer to buy Greenland (not for sale, according to Denmark), and an extension for Canada to become our 51st state. While media can and should cover each of these outrages, we mustn't allow this smoke to screen us from the real issues. Trump is already failing to deliver on his campaign promises, by backpedaling and striking out at new targets.

We end the show by asking our audience to tell us something good. In this recurring segment, we highlight that the world maybe- possible- isn't entirely going to hell.

An Interesting Thought (Hour 1)

December 27, 2024

Jim Santelle, host of Amicus: A Law Review, joins us to cohost today. We've got so many legal questions for Jim, starting with one raised by an opinion piece on The Hill. Can lawmakers, right now, use Section 3 of the Constitution's 14th Amendment to prevent Trump from retaking office? This clause asserts that an oath-breaking insurrectionist cannot lead the country as president. Can this go anywhere? Probably not, but it sure is an interesting thought. So what can still happen to hold Trump and his insurrectionists accountable? Well, we're still waiting on Jack Smith to release his final report. Now that this case will not go to trial, Dom hopes that Smith will refrain from any tempering in the report he may have planned for a trial case.

Plus, Congress seems unprepared to select a new Speaker for the new session. If Congress does not have a Speaker, they cannot legally do- well- anything. Including

America Fest! (Hour 2)

December 23, 2024

Jim Santelle focuses on President-elect Donald Trump, addressing his attendance at "America Fest" and his plans for day-one policies. These include deporting immigrants, increasing security measures, addressing transgender issues, and revisiting the Panama Canal situation. He also criticizes former President Jimmy Carter for relinquishing control of the canal.

In breaking news from Texas, the NCAA is being sued in the Supreme Court over the inclusion of transgender athletes in women’s sports. The lawsuit aims to ban transgender participation in women’s competitions and calls for halting marketing and advertising if transgender athletes are involved.

We touch briefly on Germany, the suspect, Taleb Al Abdulmohsen, man accused of killing five people and injuring more than 200 others by ramming a car into a crowded German Christmas market .

Pardon Me Sir! (Hour 1)

December 23, 2024

Jim Santelle joins the Maggie Daun Show to discuss President Biden's recent pardoning of 37 individuals over the past week. The conversation explores the implications of these pardons in relation to the Luigi Mangione case and the dynamics between state and federal courts regarding the death penalty.

Later, we take a look at Biden's environmental program aimed at reducing greenhouse gases and lowering emissions. Youth activists in Montana voiced their concerns and achieved a victory in a Montana courtroom, earning these young individuals the title of heroes.

So the Economy Is Good Now? (Hour 2)

December 20, 2024

It was a remarkable headline in the New York Times stating that the current economy is “remarkable” and basically represents everything Donald Trump promised during the campaign. That, of course, would mean President Joe Biden gave us that remarkable economy—so why was it remarkably impossible for the media to say so during the election? We’ll talk to Mark Jacob about covering the Trump transition. And former US Attorney Jim Santelle talks about the latest head-scratching court ruling taking Trump further off the hook for trying to steal an American election.

December 14, 2024

Catch up on this week's best segments!

First, from Monday's second hour, a conversation with our favorite DELANO DEMOCRAT (Dom's making it a thing), Harvey Kaye. What do Democrats need to do to start winning again?

Next, revisiting Tuesday's second hour where we covered the 10 new charges levied against Wisconsin's fake electors. We also spent significant time covering this subject on Thursday with Jim Santelle. Listen to him disagree with Dom's glee over the new charges during our second hour with Jim.

Speaking of Jim Santelle, come back to our first hour with him on Thursday for the next segment. Did undercover FBI agents instigate the January 6th, 2021 assault on the Capitol?

Finally, wrap up with a bit of poetry as we come back to our second hour with Matt Rothschild on Wednesday. Take a few minutes to appreciate Nikki Giovanni's revolutionary life and words.

Abuses of Power (Hour 2)

December 13, 2024

Our regular Friday guest, former US Attorney Jim Santelle, has been holding community discussions about the risks to American democracy in an age where politicians are finding less resistance to abusing the powers given to them by voters. Also: Mark Jacob has a look at one troubling pick for the Trump Team: an IRS commissioner eager to cut taxes for billionaires and remove ways to punish wealthy tax cheats.
