Earl Ingram

When are Christian nationalists gonna catch a break eh?(Hour 2)

February 6, 2025

Earl Ingram joins as cohost for the day.

Today, President Trump announced that he's establishing a task force to end anti-Christian bias. If that confuses you, join the party. In what part of the United States do Christians face discrimination? Certainly, there have been instances of vandalism of churches- but oh wait, that was the group once known as Proud Boys. And they were all just pardoned by Trump.

Next, more nonsense from the 47th President of these United States. Our felonious, truth-averse President asserted in a social media post this morning that DOGE had uncovered an enormous scandal involving truth-aligned media outlets receiving money from the government for what he alleges are biased articles. And this is gonna shock you: he's right! In part. Outlets like Politico receive money from the government in exchange for their service. It's called a subscription. But Trump and his billionaire cronies led by Musk are using this, like they're using every bit of info they steal from the government, to justify gutting agencies that provide lifesaving work. Honestly, the flood has been so intense we can't find one neat article to give you on that last claim. So start here, with HALF of Wisconsin's Head Start programs unable to access necessary funds due to this administration's chaos.

Who ARE These People??? (Hour 1)

February 6, 2025

Earl Ingram joins as cohost for the day.

As President Trump's administration seeks to break the system by bringing in non-experts to roles that require expertise, we're grappling with what we can do. Wisconsin legislators are stepping up to protect the American people from the damage. Specifically, our elected Democratic officials seek to put guardrails in place to protect us from the unelected, unqualified, chaos bringers around Elon Musk. Mark Pocan, Wisconsin Congressperson introduced the Eliminate Looting of Our Nation by Mitigating Unethical State Kleptocracy (ELON MUSK) Act. It's on the nose, but we're all for it. Our Senator, Tammy Baldwin, introduced legislation to close tax loopholes that benefit billionaires. And Wisconsin Congressperson Gwen Moore stormed House Speaker Mike Johnson's office to demand answers on who the hell these DOGE people are who are now able to access sensitive tax information.

Civic Media Spotlight for February 1st & 2nd (Hour 2)

February 1, 2025

To start off this hour of Civic Media Spotlight, we tune in to a segment from the Earl Ingram Show this week. Earl was joined by Wisconsin Supreme Court candidate Judge Susan Crawford. They talk about what led her to choose her career path, the biggest issues she sees impacting this election, and how she hopes to navigate the highly partisan environment in Madison.

Then, on the Dom Salvia Show, Maggie Daun sticks around for the overtime with Dom to dig into the MEMO issued by Trump's White House stalling all federal loans and grants. Not an Executive Order. Not a directive to Congress to draft budget laws. A MEMO. Dom says the message is the chaos. Maggie says it's the fear. In truth, it's probably both.

After that on Maino & the Mayor, the director of the "Green and Gold Movie," Anders Lindwall, calls in to discuss the movie. Anders says that the movie is his heartfelt tribute to rural America's strength and perseverance. The movie stars Craig T. Nelson, and at its core, the movie is a tribute to the unsung heroes who shape communities and preserve traditions through kindness and hard work.

Last but not least, Nite Lite with Pete Schwaba welcomed filmmaker Nathan Deming to the show. Nathan talks about his upcoming film, February. Nathan shares dates and cities where the film is screening and Pete takes a Wisconsin based quiz that Nathan prepared.

Trump’s Disaster Response Is Always Blame (Hour 1)

January 30, 2025

Last night, an American Airlines passenger plane crashed into a US Army Black Hawk helicopter. 64 passengers and three soldiers are presumed dead, making this the deadliest plane crash in America since 2001. President Trump spent the majority of his press conference this morning blaming the Biden administration and DEI in the military for this disaster.

We also take a call from fellow Civic Media host Earl Ingram. He shares his thoughts on how Trump managed to secure votes of minorities in our country despite his anti-minority rhetoric.

Civic Media Spotlight for January 25th & 26th (Hour 1)

January 25, 2025

It was a busy news week around the state and country this week, here are a number of topics that Civic Media hosts shared how the news affected our communities around across Wisconsin this week.

Up first this hour, Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Kaul joins the Dom Salvia Show and cohost for the day Earl Ingram to discuss how and why Wisconsin joined a lawsuit against Donald Trump. In the first hours of his second Presidential term, Trump issued an Executive Order that would strip some born in the United States of citizenship. Of course, that directly violates Section 1 of the 14th Amendment of the Constitution granting citizenship to all those born or naturalized in the US. Hence the lawsuit. In Kaul's words- a disastrous way to start his second term.

Then, on Matenaer On Air, Jane and Greg cover the pardons that were issued for everyone who took part in the January 6 insurrection, including those who were charged with violent offenses, on Donald Trumps first day back in the Oval Office. That is even after the administration said it would go over the cases thoroughly and wouldn't seek to pardon those convicted of violent crimes, the show discusses the people from Wisconsin who participated in the event.

Up next on this weekend's Spotlight, State Assembly Rep. Francesca Hong (D-Madison) talks to UpNorthNews Radio's Pat Kreitlow about the many issues to be debated during the new session of the Wisconsin Legislature—with a main emphasis on her “Healthy School Meals For All” proposal.

Finally, on the Todd Allbaugh Show, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported this week that CBS 58 in Milwaukee fired weather reporter Sam Kuffel for criticizing Elon Musk on her personal social media. While there may have been a legitimate reason to lay her off, the subsequent silence from CBS 58 speaks volumes. The Todd Allbaugh Show discusses this dangerous precedent set very early on in Donald Trump’s presidency. If media companies fire people in their weather departments for criticizing somebody who isn’t even an elected official, trust in news departments will likely deteriorate even further.

Focusing through the Firehose of BS (Hour 2)

January 23, 2025

Earl Ingram joins us as cohost for the day.

At the top of the hour, Bill Press- pundit, podcaster, prognosticator, and pal of the show- joins us. Bill, a longtime California resident, weighs in on the LA area fires. He's also an extremely experienced navigator of Trump's BS. Bill shares some guidance on how to sift through the firehose of executive orders, meandering social media policy announcements, and flurry of shiny object distractions. Because we simply can't focus on all of it. And we need to be able to focus on what's important. We're choosing to focus on what's most important, like y'know a President attempting to change the Constitution with an Executive Order.

BLATANTLY Unconstitutional (Hour 1)

January 23, 2025

Earl Ingram joins us as cohost for the day.

At the top of the hour, we talk with Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Kaul. On President Trump's first day back in office, he issued an absolute slew of executive orders, some within the bounds of Presidential authority, some not. Amongst those orders was one that attempts to strip citizenship from some children born in the United States. Now, the 14th Amendment to our Constitution leaves no room for ambiguity- all those born or naturalized in the United States and subject to the jurisdiction thereof are citizens of this nation. Immediately, many states, including Wisconsin, filed a lawsuit to prevent this unconstitutional order from taking effect. Today, a Seattle federal judge- appointed by Reagan- slapped down the order as "blatantly unconstitutional." Wisconsin's Attorney General agrees wholeheartedly.

After that, the Earl Ingram Show catches up with Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Kaul to talk about the role of the Attorney General and how the state is looking to tackle gun safety and protect reproductive rights.

Then, the Maggie Daun Show is joined by Dom Salvia for "In Case You Missed It," continuing the discussion about Donald Trump's historic sentencing today for fraud in New York, especially Trump's attorney's statement that there should never be any politically motivated prosecutions - you don't say, Todd. Maggie calls Judge Merchan a genius and Dom agrees. Find out why and tune in!

Finally, Nite Lite with Pete Schwaba is joined by director of the new Packers movie, Green and Gold, Anders Lindwall. Anders and Pete talk about living growing up in the Upper Peninsula. Anders shares how he and his brother got the idea for Green and Gold, and what it took to make the film. Anders and the film crew shot the film in Door County, with the farmers and towns behind the film.
