The Spring Primary and the race for State Superintendent
Believe it or not, it is once again time for Wisconsinites to head to the polls and vote. I know, we all have a bit of election fatigue after 2024, but the Spring Election Primary is coming up on Tuesday, Feb. 18.
One race that will be on every ballot for the Spring Primary is for State Superintendent. Incumbent Jill Underly is seeking another term, and two candidates are challenging her — Jeff Wright, superintendent for Sauk Prairie Schools, and Brittany Kinser, an education consultant and former charter school executive.
Kinser’s candidacy, in particular, is gaining steam. Her campaign reported raising more than $500,000, far more than what Underly or Wright have brought in. With that type of financial support, this could prove to be a more competitive race for state superintendent than what we’ve seen in quite some time. This is becoming a real race to watch.

I’m In Charge Around Here
On today's show, Maggie calls out Trump's loyalty pledges. On applications, people are being asked questions like "Was January 6 an inside job?" It's not loyalty to a country. It's loyalty to a person. It's asking applicants and appointees to lean into the lies.
Dan Shafer also joins Maggie this hour for another edition of "State Slate." Today, Maggie and Dan discuss the bill proposed by Wisconsin Republicans which would limit school referendums, essentially boxing in local communities. Dan also reminds us that we are one week away from Gov. Tony Evers budget address! We are also only one week away from the state primary, which includes the State Superintendent of Public Instruction. It's turning into a really competitive race!

Adjusting To A New Political Reality with Dan Shafer (Hour 2)
We kick off today’s second hour with some audio from Democrats Brian Schiff and Elizabeth Warren about why Elon Musk’s FBI raids and Treasury information breaches matter to the average American. Todd finds it difficult to believe that most Trump voters intended for Elon Musk to get their social security numbers, but Wisconsin’s own Robin Vos says, “hell yeah I voted for this and its [sic] better than I expected.”
At the bottom of the hour, Civic Media’s Political Editor and Founder of The Recombobulation Area Dan Shafer joins us to talk about last-minute NBA trades and his latest political article.

John and Gordy
Maggie is out for the day, and filling in are John Peterson and Gordy Young, the morning show team on Civic Media's Madison station. They chat with callers about the tragedy last night in DC, where a military helicopter crashed into a passenger airliner, and also discuss the disgusting decision by Trump to blame the crash on DEI. Later, John and Gordy are joined by Dan Shafer, Civic Media's Political Editor and founder of the Recombobulation Area. They chat with him about a new poll out by a conservative group on the standing of the SCOWI race, as we stand about two months out from election day. We cover some alarming comments by Brad Schimel, the conservative candidate, then shift gears to talking about the DNC chair vote coming up on Saturday. Wrapping up the hour, we get Dan's take on a reflection of RFK's confirmation hearings written by Tammy Baldwin - "RFK Jr. Is Bad For Our Health"

Rhetoric vs Reality with Harry Dunn (Hour 1)
Today, Maggie broadcasts live from the WMDX studios in Madison with former US Capitol Police Officer Harry Dunn! He was there while a violent mob stormed the Capitol on January 6th, 2021. In the years since, he has been making sure everybody knows the truth of what happened on that day. Now that President Donald Trump has pardoned all of the criminals who beat police officers on J6, Harry Dunn's message is more important than ever.
At the bottom of the hour, we kick off a new weekly segment: State Slate with Dan Shafer! As Civic Media's Political Editor and the Founder of The Recombobulation Area, Dan is always keeping his eye on what matters to Wisconsinites. Most importantly, Wisconsin's supreme court race takes place on April first, and we all need to pay attention.

Recombobulate Biden’s Legacy

Civic Media's own Dan Shafer from the Recombobulation Area joins Mark to talk about what legacy President Biden leaves after the Harris loss. They discuss what blame falls on the shoulders of the former President for not bowing out earlier, and the damage done to the party as a whole from the fallout. They also talk about the whirlwind of a first week in office for President Trump. Finally, they touch on what the Democrats need to do in order to have success again.
"They got to change the way they talk to people." Dan Shafer in reference to the Democrats

In Mark's final segment, he gives his thoughts on whether or not Kamala Harris had the right or wrong message, and what he believes needs to be the focus of talking points for Democrats in the next election cycle.
"We have to talk about the dangers of this type of politics. That has to be a huge message." Mark Becker during his Musings
