Dan Shafer
The Right Freak Out Machine
Maggie begins this hour by looking into the recent German elections. The far-right party has doubled their support in national elections in just four years. Over the weekend, they gained almost 20 percent of the support. Young people voted either far right or far left. Not a lot of young centrist voters. Sound familiar? Political Editor, Dan Shafer, also joins Maggie this hour for "State Slate." Maggie and Dan discuss the state superintendent race. You can check out the latest here: https://www.therecombobulationarea.news/p/could-brittany-kinser-win-the-race. This one, according to Dan, could be a really close! And Gov. Evers budget address has the right completely freaking out...over semantics.

It's going to be an interesting race between Jill Underly and Brittany Kinser. Plus we're "Over the Hump with Trump." The Spring Primary and the race for State Superintendent
Believe it or not, it is once again time for Wisconsinites to head to the polls and vote. I know, we all have a bit of election fatigue after 2024, but the Spring Election Primary is coming up on Tuesday, Feb. 18.
One race that will be on every ballot for the Spring Primary is for State Superintendent. Incumbent Jill Underly is seeking another term, and two candidates are challenging her — Jeff Wright, superintendent for Sauk Prairie Schools, and Brittany Kinser, an education consultant and former charter school executive.
Kinser’s candidacy, in particular, is gaining steam. Her campaign reported raising more than $500,000, far more than what Underly or Wright have brought in. With that type of financial support, this could prove to be a more competitive race for state superintendent than what we’ve seen in quite some time. This is becoming a real race to watch.
Non-Partisan In Name Only (Hour 2)
In our second hour, we're Recombobulating....ON A WEDNESDAY!! That's right, Civic Media Political Editor and Founder of The Recombobulation Area, Dan Shafer joins us to talk about the races for State Superintendent, as well as Supreme Court (spoiler, it's all about the money...again) and Summerfest is coming and the lineup is out! And we wouldn't leave you empty handed, it's time for This Shouldn't Be A Thing - Step This Way Edition

I’m In Charge Around Here
On today's show, Maggie calls out Trump's loyalty pledges. On applications, people are being asked questions like "Was January 6 an inside job?" It's not loyalty to a country. It's loyalty to a person. It's asking applicants and appointees to lean into the lies.
Dan Shafer also joins Maggie this hour for another edition of "State Slate." Today, Maggie and Dan discuss the bill proposed by Wisconsin Republicans which would limit school referendums, essentially boxing in local communities. Dan also reminds us that we are one week away from Gov. Tony Evers budget address! We are also only one week away from the state primary, which includes the State Superintendent of Public Instruction. It's turning into a really competitive race!

Adjusting To A New Political Reality with Dan Shafer (Hour 2)
We kick off today’s second hour with some audio from Democrats Brian Schiff and Elizabeth Warren about why Elon Musk’s FBI raids and Treasury information breaches matter to the average American. Todd finds it difficult to believe that most Trump voters intended for Elon Musk to get their social security numbers, but Wisconsin’s own Robin Vos says, “hell yeah I voted for this and its [sic] better than I expected.”
At the bottom of the hour, Civic Media’s Political Editor and Founder of The Recombobulation Area Dan Shafer joins us to talk about last-minute NBA trades and his latest political article.

Don't forget early voting for the February 18 spring primary is officially underway. Check out the spring ballot at myvote.wi.gov.
