Best of UpNorthNews Radio with Pat Kreitlow (Week of 3/13/23)

This week on UpNorthNews Radio, we only had live shows on Thursday and Friday, but they were big shows! Hear from former State Treasurer Sarah Godlewski and Judge Janet Protasiewicz about the importance of the upcoming election for State Supreme Court. Afterwards, Pat talks with Mark Jacob, a former editor of the Chicago Sun Times and other publications, about the current state of journalism. To round out the hour, UW Eau Claire Athletics Director Dan Schumacher shares his thoughts about March Madness.

Judge Janet and the WI Medical Society President (Hour 2)

Just 19 days until Wisconsin’s huge state Supreme Court election and we’ll be joined by candidate and Milwaukee County Judge Janet Protasiewic along with former state treasurer Sarah Godlewski for a discussion on the importance of having a plan to vote on April 4.

And in this week’s Hometown Health segment, Dr. Kristin Lyerly is joined by the president of the Wisconsin Medical Society, Dr. Wendy Molaska, to discuss the increased challenges of attracting and retaining quality physicians when politicians put themselves between patients and their doctors.

Showing Support to Control Your Own Body (Hour 2)

Sarah Godlewski’s group Women Win Wisconsin is part of a large coalition with other organizations planning a series of at least half-a-dozen rallies across the state in the month of March—designed to give women and their allies a place to show their support for reclaiming the freedom to make their own choices about their bodies and their health care. She tells us the where and when of these rallies.

Caring for Wisconsin Women—Over the Border (Hour 2)

Although the fight continues in capitols and courtrooms, the repeal of Roe v. Wade means women needing full-spectrum quality health care can no longer get it in Wisconsin. The archaic 1849 abortion ban has led to the creation of a new clinic for women willing to cross into Illinois. We’ll talk to the clinic’s co-founder as well as former state Treasurer Sarah Godlewski.

Tomorrow:

  • Kristin Lyerly, Joe Zepecki

Jodi Habush Sinykin on Her State Senate Run (Hour 2)

The 8th State Senate District had been represented by Republican Alberta Darling from 1992 to 2022. After her abrupt retirement last month, a special election was called for April 4. Democratic candidate Jodi Habush Sinykin and former state treasurer Sarah Godlewski visit to talk about the importance of the race and others on the spring ballot. Also, state Sen. Brad Pfaff will give his reaction to the State of the State address from Gov. Tony Evers and the Republican response.

Tomorrow:

  • Hometown Health with Drs. Kristin Lyerly and Timothy Johnson talking about CRNAs.
