Good morning, welcome welcome to Mattnare on Air.
Jane Mattnare, Greg Bach and Calvin Butenoff coming to you live from our studio here at Radio Park in Racine.
You can always join us, call or text.
The number is the same.
It's 855-752.
four eight, four two, leave a comment.
If you're watching on the live stream on Facebook, YouTube, and what used to be Twitter, lots of things coming up on the show for you today.
Mornings with Pat Critello host, Pat Critello joining us after the 9 30 news.
He's on the road.
He's actually in Texas, but still doing the show.
He is a dedicated broadcaster.
He is going to be joining us after 9 30.
We're going to talk a little bit about.
Tom Tiffany, of course, has entered the gubernatorial race.
And apparently, since he made his big announcement that he's jumping into the race, his website has changed.
It's Tom version 2.0.
Tom 2.0.
Tom Tiffany 2.0.
We'll work on it, but yeah, it's exactly what needs to happen.
for someone running for this kind of office and we'll see where it takes them.
We'll talk about that with Pat Crite low in hour number two.
She is back and you can catch her across civic media.
The fabulous farm babe Pam Yankee is going to be joining us after 10 o'clock.
We love Pam and we're going to be talking about tariffs and what she's hearing from Wisconsin farmers on how this is affecting them and how they feel about this alleged bailout that's going to be coming.
or in two weeks, I'm sure.
Everything's in two weeks.
And we also want to talk about the mental health crisis, which we have talked to Pam about many times before.
And this, especially now with the...
the squeeze that farmers are feeling, there has to be a lot more pressure.
So we're going to talk to Pam Yankee in hour number two, and then the last half an hour of the show, as we always do, we'll lighten it up.
With audio sorbet, Terry Barr, Civic Media's genie of just about everything, an award-winning journalist does a great segment called Slice of Wisconsin, where we learn things about...
Unique things in Wisconsin that you may not have heard of.
You
never heard of the Mustard Museum.
I never heard of the Mustard Museum, but when you hear about it the moment you hear about it, you say, that makes
sense.
That thing.
And finally, we'll wrap up the show at the very end with this shouldn't be a thing.
Today it's the hot and spicy edition.
Just like me.
So stay tuned for that very briefly.
And we'll talk about this in a little bit more in about 15 minutes, but the Brewers.
Did win last night beat those cubbies 7-3 to take a 2-0 lead in the NLDS game 3 is tomorrow at Wrigley Field.
I'm going to save all of my commentary for later on.
All right, we're gonna talk about the Brewers and the special train that's going down to Chicago tomorrow.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Amtrak is running a special train down there.
We would love to hear from you if you're going to the game.
Yeah,
Godspeed.
Yeah, so let us let us know and yeah, we'll talk about that.
In about 15 minutes, stick around for that.
Also, we wanted to congratulate our multi-state go for the green and gold text to win contest.
The grand prize winner.
Calvin, let's have a little drum roll, please.
The grand prize winner of those fabulous tickets.
Dennis, Dennis from Managua.
Dennis from Managua.
Listening on WCQM picked up those two.
indoor club level tickets to see Green Bay in Minnesota November 23rd at noon with a gas card to get them there and back.
So amazing.
Thank you so much Dennis for listening and to everybody else too who took part in the contest.
It was really great fun.
We will be doing more of these contests.
Oh yeah.
So just make sure that you have the Civic Media app.
That's the only way to enter.
And what we said, we were talking, we actually talked about it quite a bit yesterday in the second hour, but it's just a nice reminder.
When you have the app, you can participate in contests.
You can call us directly through the app.
You can text us directly through the app.
You can leave a voice note directly through the app, even if you don't like us, you can leave it because America, even if they're nasty, even
if
they have really graphic suggestions.
But the point is, is you can do a lot with that app.
You can also get your news from that app.
You can customize it to where you live or the news that you want.
and you can listen to us anywhere in the world.
We've gotten text messages from New Zealand, from Vienna, East Brunswick, New Jersey.
That is- The outer reaches of
the
world.
I think experts call it, take us with you ability.
I like it.
Here you go.
Go to wherever you get your apps, go to your app store, look for Civic Media, C-I-V, Civic Media, and download the Civic Media app.
It is- App.
Absolutely free.
One of the start off with this.
From the Wisconsin Examiner, Alexander Scher has the byline, Wisconsin must verify citizenship of registered voters and new applicants.
A Waukesha County judge on Friday ordered the Wisconsin Elections Commission to determine if any non-citizens are registered to vote
and to stop accepting voter registrations without verifying that the applicant is a U.S.
citizen.
There is no evidence.
None.
Zippo zero.
No evidence of widespread election fraud.
Joe Biden won the 2020 election.
Donald Trump lost the 2020 election.
There were more than 60 court cases that they lost.
He lost the election.
We just can't get over, they just can't get over that.
They just can't
get over it.
No, this is, I think experts in the field would call this a phenomenal waste
of time.
It is a phenomenal waste of time and also money for one thing,
There are no processes in order to do what this judge is asking.
So there is nothing in place on how you are going to double check to see if these people are citizens.
The
thing is, this is nothing new, Jane.
This has been a push from, I mean, Judge Maxwell is the one who signed the letter that I've been trying to look him up, but I'm pretty sure
where he falls on the line of politics because they have been trying to push this narrative for a long time.
Voter ID.
Dropboxes are
bad.
Dropboxes are bad and everything to, I mean, let.
Let's just step back and take a look at all of this stuff, whether we're talking about voter ID, whether we're talking about absentee voting, whether we're talking about drop boxes, whether we're talking about now screening to make sure everyone's a citizen.
I mean, first of all, once again, creating a solution out of no problem.
Just like voter ID, creating a solution out of no problem whatsoever.
And it is, this is like climate change in a sense where the experts who study this have come together and said over and over again, there is not enough.
evidence to show widespread conspiracy in any election that takes place in this country.
When people vote illegally, they usually get caught.
Yes, they do.
And they get fined or jailed.
The process works.
The ability for people to do their job is being hampered when you put on top of this a new process that says, you now must check everyone's citizenry.
when they are in to vote.
We trusted everyone before and it pretty much worked the way it was.
But my point being, when you take a step back and you look at all of this and all of the belly aching, well, we just want to make sure it's safe and we want to make sure our elections.
are fair, and we want to make sure that those terrible human beings from other countries who can't legally vote aren't voting.
This is just voter intimidation.
This is voter disenfranchisement.
This is trying to hamper the process and get people to not vote because they think, well, if I have to go and prove that I'm a citizen, why should I go?
If I have to prove who I am, say a woman who has been married and has to change my name and get a bunch of paperwork, why would I even vote in the first place?
This is all voter suppression.
And it's coming from one side, and it is a guaranteed right in our constitution to vote.
What does it say about the people who are pushing the narrative then?
It really is tiresome to have to keep bringing it up, because you have to keep telling them they're not, they don't care about the elections.
They want you to stay home.
They do.
Less participation is better for
them.
Yes.
Less education is better for you.
Yes.
Less voting, less knowledge, less nuance, less everything.
Just follow it.
Somebody said once, he loved the poorly educated.
Waukesha County Circuit Court Judge Michael Maxwell.
had opposed the commission, the election commission opposed this initial request.
They said there is no state law that calls for requiring documented proof of citizenship.
Also said the DOT has no obligation to match citizenship data with voter records.
And this judge in Waukesha, the Waukesha County Circuit Court Judge Michael Maxwell rejected that, saying the agency is failing in its duty.
to ensure that only lawful voters make it onto the voter rolls.
If you have questions about this and how far back this goes, talk to Todd Alba.
The host of the Todd Alba show from two to four across the network.
He worked for a Republican congressman for many, many, many years.
He was there.
when they first started talking about gerrymandering districts.
He was in the room.
He was in the room where it happens.
Nice reference.
In the room where it happens.
And saw the glee with which some Republican lawmakers talked about restricting the voting rights of people of color, specifically.
Yeah.
Ask Todd about it.
That's when Todd left the Republican Party.
2011.
Because he didn't want to be part of this.
No.
No.
And again, if your policies are so good, then people would vote for the policies.
But rather than make policy that the public wants, they are going to restrict the amount of people who can vote rather than change their policies.
Well, and also just look at the history of Wisconsin alone.
They got voter ID years ago.
That should have solved the quote unquote problem.
But it didn't it didn't
we
had to enshrine it in our Constitution for some reason because when you can't pass a bill You put in the Constitution that comes who do a referendum who said that a real referendum it was it was she's from the League of Women Voters
I'm trying to play Dev Cromwell
Cromwell
Cron Miller
said if you can't when you can't pass it on the floor You put it as a referendum and that's not the way to do things and then
So it's in the Constitution.
Now we want to make sure everyone says, how badly do you not want
people to vote?
Pretty badly.
Because they're still fighting drop boxes.
Yes.
They still want to fight drop boxes, which Brian Schimming, the head of the Wisconsin Republicans, encouraged people to use in the last election.
Bank your vote.
Bank your
vote.
And it worked for you too.
It worked in the 2024 election for Republicans.
Early voting was through the roof among Republicans because they had never really had permission.
But now it's evil again.
And it was only evil, I guess, for Donald Trump.
Nobody else.
Everybody else on there, you won.
But he lost.
We need to do it again.
Well, that still to me is the biggest jump out of that whole argument of all the people on that ballot because all the names are on one ballot.
Only one race got changed.
And if they were really
If the Democrats were really good at rigging things, then they not only would have rigged the presidential election, but they would have rigged a whole bunch of other House seats and Senate seats, right?
And just locked up power.
The day the
Democrats can rig anything.
I mean, like, the closest they're gonna come to...
to rigging an election is by writing a strongly worded
letter
to each county clerk is saying, hey, guys, you should make sure our person wins because the Democrats are really good at that.
We're going to keep an eye on this and let you know what's going on with this.
And by the way, check your voter registration.
Go to myvote.wi.gov.
Make sure you're still on the voter rolls.
When we return,
A fast train to Chicago, baby.
Chugga chugga choo choo.
Headin' to Wrigley Field, you're listening to Matt and Air on Air.
This is the Civic Media Radio Network.
We'll be right back.
Good morning and welcome, welcome to Matt and Air on Air.
Jane Matt and Air, Greg Bach, sweet Calbee on the board, coming to you from our studio at Radio Park in Racine.
Join us, call or text at 855-752-4842.
Leave a comment if you're watching on the live stream.
Good morning, live stream.
on Facebook, YouTube, and what used to be Twitter.
Coming up later on today, Maggie Dawn from four to six across the network, joined by our friend and colleague, Jim Santel, host of Amicus, a law review.
He is going to join Maggie.
And then in the five o'clock hour, Maggie wants to hear from you.
It is sound
off.
Sound off with Maggie Dawn at five o' six.
So join Maggie today, four to six p.m.
across the network.
The Brewers.
They won it last night, beat the Cubbies.
Seven to three, now leading two games to zip in the NLDS.
Game three is tomorrow in Chicago at Wrigley Field.
And Amtrak is running a special train.
Nice.
That sounds like a really fun way to get down there.
I
would just take the train then come immediately back.
Just
to go for a ride.
Well,
I can't afford an LDS ticket.
In Milwaukee, they're like $300 a piece now, so I'm not...
I couldn't afford Chicago prices.
I went to one game at Wrigley Field many years ago.
It's a beautiful ballpark.
Beautiful, beautiful ballpark.
But it's in a neighborhood.
Yes, it is.
It's really hard to get around.
It's like Lambo Field.
You're like, hey, there's Bob and, there's Bob and Carol's house and there's Lambo Field right there.
Yeah.
Parking is always a nightmare and traffic is always a nightmare.
So taking the
train.
Well, yes.
Taking the train down there sounds like a pretty.
good option.
And they're going to have all kinds of special things.
They're decking out the Hiawatha line train to become the Brewer's Express.
Nice.
So if you're going to be on board tomorrow, you will be greeted by a disc jockey.
This is from CBS 58, by the way.
The racing sausages.
Wow.
And the Brewers 4-1 Force.
I don't
know what that means.
Oh, okay, so the 4-1 Force, if you go to a Brewers game, like we went to last year, that's the crew that will get up on the dugout and will dance, throw t-shirts,
and run
around.
They're like a spirit squad, if
you will.
Okay, they're cheerleaders, essentially.
The Brew crew will be on site handing out giveaways and 300 brats to share with the first train riding fans who show up.
The Brewer's Express will leave the Milwaukee Intermodal Station at 8.05 tomorrow morning, and then it's going to pick up Bernie Brewer, Barrelman, and more fans at the Milwaukee Airport Railroad Station.
Every car of the Brewer's Express decked out in blue and yellow.
Fans dropped off at Chicago Union Station before the game, the first pitch set for 4.08.
Alright, yeah, it sounds like a good idea.
Barrel Man's terrifying, by the way.
Barrel Man's just terrifying, because there's a look in his eyes, and there's a smirk that just makes me like, it just- It makes you uncomfortable?
Makes me very uncomfortable.
I don't know what Barrel Man's up to, and I want Bernie Brewer to get down to brass tacks and find out what Barrel Man's
problem- What's going on back there?
No, Jay, what Barrel Man's problem with me is, because every
time I look at that
thing, it's like, I know what you did.
I didn't do anything!
Barrel man.
Barrel man.
Yeah.
Anybody going to the game tomorrow, we would love to hear from you at 855-752-4842-855-75 Civic.
I hopefully certainly hope that there will be a similar number of Brewer's fans who had done to Wrigley to take care of the Cubbies fans that headed up here.
Well, actually from the, I mean, there are fans, there were fans in the audience, in the audience, in the stands.
But from what I, at least from the highlights I saw last night, lots of brewers fans at the same last night.
And it seems like that's how it's been for the first game as well.
Yeah, I guys, I mean, I will say this, you know, I'm still on the tweeters and I have never witnessed a more untethered group of people than not even Cubs fan, like Cubs fans as a whole of their argument.
But like the sports writers in Chicago, the way they are incapable of accepting the fact that I'm not, I'm not saying, hey, congratulate the burrs, be happy for the burrs.
But the way they just are so mean girl, petty about certain like Jacob Mizorowski last night.
Pitched a ball.
He didn't catch it, but he got the grounder and he ran over to first base and was very excited because the guy was out and they kept moving forward and people are making fun of him for doing that.
It's like, dude, he's a 23 year old kid.
He pitches in the major leagues.
He's Luke Lelouch.
And he gets to, he got to do something cool.
Let him be excited.
They were being pissy about that.
Absolutely they were being.
Well, they lost two games now, so I guess they got to find something.
Well, I mean, I also mean, like, they got seven runs.
And hey, I may be the only one who did not know this, but we have an Abner.
Yes, Abner, Uribe.
The Brewers have an Abner.
I think that just locks it up for us.
That's it.
We have an Abner.
Just give us the ring.
What is more baseball?
then the name Abner and
I told you if a guy on the team's name was Steve baseball I think that's the only way but that Abner okay come on yep if you want to know what that means just look up Abner double day and that will be your reference for you Ken Burns baseball nerds like me but yeah it's it's he's he's very very good player it's a very good team it's very exciting I the excitement they have William Contreras's home run last night
Just, every time he hits a home run, I love it.
I absolutely love it.
But yeah, I mean, they're firing on all cylinders.
It's a little good, but it's not over.
There's still games to be played in this series.
And they're going to Chicago where the vibe is going to change, the
energy is
going to change.
And I just want my brew crew to keep the head down, looking forward, staying on target.
As they say in the Star Wars movies, stay on target.
When I was listening to Pat and Parker this morning coming into work and they were talking about
It does seem to be kind of a pattern, though.
We let him get like three runs in the first inning and then we chase him.
Well, I mean, and it seems to be working so far.
They got three runs in the first inning that we came and got three runs in the first inning as well.
But the first game was great.
One run.
They're like, oh, no.
And then we're like, oh, they're up by nine in the first.
Oops.
Go crew.
Go crew.
Go crew.
Boom.
News is coming up next when we come back.
Pat Crite low for mornings with Pat Crite low.
We'll be here.
We're going to talk a little bit about Tom Tiffany.
Stay with us.
His website has changed.
Stay with us.
You're listening to Matt Nair on air on the vast statewide to countrywide.
You can pick us up around the world on this civic media radio network.
Good morning.
Welcome.
Welcome to Matt and air on air.
Jane, Matt and air.
Greg buck.
The board Lord coming to you from our studio at radio park in Racine.
Join us.
Call or text at 855-752-4842.
You can leave a comment if you're watching in the live stream on Facebook, YouTube and what used to be Twitter.
Joining us now like he does every other Tuesday, no matter where he is in the world.
This is the kind of fine broadcaster he is.
Host of mornings with Pat Crite Low.
Pat Crite Low is joining us from Texas.
So dedicated.
So, so dedicated to making sure that his vacation days are used on a beach.
smart
move winter time.
So
that when I'm doing other traveling, I will show upward ever need be so I'm a yes, I'm in the Dallas area visiting kids and grandkids and it's it's all very fun.
But then for the time during the radio show when they're all sleeping in anyway,
yeah, I suppose I just
I just come over to one of the guest rooms here and and and yeah, which is
what I do
best.
Well, we're delighted to have you here.
Thank you for joining us.
Wanted to start off with this, of course, not a big surprise, but I still think it's worth pointing out.
Tom Tiffany recently announced he is throwing his hat in the ring to run for Wisconsin governor.
He is widely at this point believed to be the front runner.
He certainly has the most name recognition.
But Daniel Bice, as is his want, you know, he goes looking around.
People don't like him.
Yep, sniffing around.
Sniff sniff sniff sniff sniff sniff those candidates.
Yeah, and he has an article in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
Representative Tom Tiffany erases abortion, gun rights, and other issues from his personal website.
Yeah, that that's the thing about the internet forever.
It's forever.
Yeah, it doesn't forget.
According to this article from Daniel Bice, if you go to tomtiffony.com today,
The issues page that was there forever is now gone.
No more issues.
Now it's solutions.
And what
kind of solutions, Jane?
What kind of hard-hitting, weirdly specific solutions does Tom Tiffany have
now?
Let me elaborate for you.
Oh, yes.
Protect what makes Wisconsin great.
Cheese curds.
Lower cost for every Wisconsinite.
cool
cool what
those are the solutions protect me now you could put that in a bill right now that bill would pass right protect what makes Wisconsin great and lower costs for every Wisconsinite that is on his solution
well
Todd Alba always talks about what makes Wisconsin great.
And it's a great day to be Wisconsinite.
So Tom Tiffany is on the record of saying he would like to wrap Todd Alba in some bubble wrap and protect him.
That's as specific as I mean, Tom Tiffany isn't any more specific.
So prove me wrong, Congressman.
So in in comedy,
there's a thing where
timing.
Well done.
Sorry.
You are the professional.
Please continue.
Don't
you ever be funnier than me again?
No, in comedy, there's this thing where if you're if you're if you're seasoned enough, if you've been doing it long enough, you see someone on stage, you just and they're not doing well, but they seem to be talking with confidence.
You can say something the effect of these aren't jokes.
These are
Premises and the premises the basis of a joke you you based your joke around the premise my point is these are premises These aren't jokes.
These aren't solutions.
These are nothing These
are statements.
These are the answers to asking someone on the street What do you want to see happen in Wisconsin?
And they're carrying groceries and answering quick cuz they have things to do these are not answers to any problems.
These are just pie in the sky
Whatever from a guy who wants so bad now to be of Wisconsin, when you said he threw his hat in, all I can think of now is that stupid trucker's cap that he wears that says Wisconsin, or it says home, where Wisconsin is the O because he wants to be of Wisconsin so bad now.
Again, we're talking about an article from Daniel Bice, Pat Crite-Lewis here on Man Air on Air.
An article from Daniel Bice that talks about how TomTifany.com
has changed since Tom Tiffany announced he's going to be running for governor.
His issues page has gone replaced by a list of solutions, which include protect what makes Wisconsin great and lower costs for every Wisconsinite.
Of course, no details on how we would do that or even what makes Wisconsin great.
No, no, because again, what what he says would make Wisconsin great, you know, might involve strip mining, you
know, throughout
the, you know, throughout
the
woods and forests, the Apostle Islands, not Matt might Pat will not might.
Yes, yes, we we understand where Tom and Tom Tiffany does not want to be that specific on his site.
Now, to be fair, as Dan Schaefer pointed out on my show in the last hour,
When anybody first runs for office, they tend to do a bit of a digital scrubbing or cleaning up, freshening things, I guess, is the way that
you could put it.
A digital dusting,
perhaps.
A digital dusting, where instead of the stack of magazines that are mostly based on the swimsuit issue, it's now Hordes Dairyman, you know, or Highlights for Kids, something like that.
And that's that's all that Tom Tiffany is doing here is just cleaning up a bit in much the same way that he tried to clean up his position on abortion rights by saying, I love this, it's so lawyerly.
I support current law, which does not what it doesn't say is if they put an abortion ban bill under my nose, I will sign it in two seconds.
He doesn't have to say that he just says, I support state law as it is currently written.
So yeah, Tom that that's what you would have to do as governor.
Yes
And and that's where the question I have is so okay at this point unless something crazy happens It feels like all the the signs are pointing that Tom Tiffany.
I don't come the presumptive nominee, but he's the good he's working to
But he's working towards being the guy.
He has to capture the Trump vote to do that.
And he's done a good job.
He has made it clear.
He is of the Trump camp.
There's
no
doubting that.
Waiting for the
endorsement.
No
daylight.
So the question I have is, does scrubbing that information from his website actually do him damage because he needs to keep those Trump votes?
I mean, here's the thing is, you could still have, I am,
100% pro-life.
I am 100% drilling.
I am 100% all of those things that Trump is as well as that camp likes to exude.
You could also throw those two ridiculous statements on there too, and it still works.
Doesn't harm him scrubbing his website?
Can people say, oh, is he trying to soften his image?
And then maybe mega voters will be like, oh, wait a minute.
I don't know.
Do you not believe in a right to life anymore?
You know what I mean?
Does
this harm him?
I think they understand the wink.
They understand the wink that is at play here.
And again, referencing back to Dan Schaefer, he made a similar point with Maria Lazar, the court of appeals judge now running for Wisconsin Supreme Court, who has a very deep history with extremist groups
but is billing herself as the independent candidate to get the politics out
of the Supreme Court.
And
there's nobody that supported her in the past that isn't hearing the wink that's in there.
And so if you're going to go there, go there.
If you're running from the far right, and then you want to build off that base, then just
you know, be big enough to do that and don't pretend to be something that you're not.
If you're just joining us, Pat Crichtlow, host of Mornings with Pat Crichtlow on Civic Media is our guest here on Matt and Air On Air.
And we're talking about Tom Tiffany's campaign for Wisconsin governor and how since he has made his announcement, his website has changed just a little bit from his long standing positions on guns and also on abortion.
Tiffany, just as a reminder.
has been endorsed by Wisconsin Right to Life, Wisconsin Family Action.
He has an A-plus from Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America.
And it's important to point out that those groups want to get rid of not only all abortions, but also all birth control.
Except for the rhythm method, I think that's still okay.
Mike doesn't talk we can talk about the efficiency with that with my cousin who has five kids glorious The
rhythm is gonna get you all right.
Yeah,
you'll get you all right I was gonna say being married to an OBGYN the rhythm method is just get used to the rhythm of a lullaby Because you'll be you'll be singing that before too much long time Yeah, I mean but again the the more serious point is the control that these people want over
women's bodies over everybody's bodies and decision making.
These are folks that will talk all about, you know, what makes Wisconsin great.
Well, one of the things that makes Wisconsin great would be a little thing I'd call liberty.
you know, and I don't mean the insurance.
I mean, the actual thing that gives you the freedom to make some of your own choices and not have government impose itself between you and your doctor, for example, or, you know, who you can love and whether you can get a free public education, all of those things.
But these are not the things that are supporting these couple of candidates that we're talking about.
And they should just
they should just say what they really are for and stop trying to hide it.
It's almost like they're not proud of their policy positions when the light is shown upon them.
And the question I have is in a in a debate situation, and I'm going to pick the one like a Sarah Rodriguez or a Keldor Roy's or a Fran Hong standing next to them on a podium on the debate stage.
That is going to be tough for Tom Tiffany.
because Tom Tiffany has been he's been a relatively quiet man in the congress people did he's really I don't he's
really yeah because he what he'll do is he sees that as an opportunity to paint at any of those candidates as extreme he will try to go on offense and claim that these are people who want abortion on demand even at the ninth month and yes Fran Hong and Kelder Roy's and the others will will point out how they're
lying eight ways to Sunday, ironically, mentioning Sunday when talking about their points of view.
But you know, the Tom Tiffany's out there will simply say, Oh, yeah, abortion on demand, ninth month, we've got to protect against extremists like that.
So, you know, they'll simply try to go on offense and paint any progressive candidate as something that they're not.
Yeah, I just it's very fascinating to me that he I know he's been around.
And I don't want to say he came out of the woodwork.
But
He hasn't really made a name for himself in this state.
Well, no, he's been enjoying a great gig.
Yeah, exactly.
I mean,
great gig in a red district, a red state Senate district, a red congressional district.
And now that he's got to run statewide where the progressive or the Democratic candidate has won 15 of the last 18 statewide races, you know, they know you can't start from the far right.
You've got to try to pretend that you're in the middle and see who all you can, you know, convince of that between now and next November.
He was asked if the Republican-controlled legislature passed a bill setting an abortion ban at less than 20 weeks.
What he would do, Tiffany says, I'd have to evaluate it.
But it is not my goal to change anything.
Doesn't say he won't.
I'm going to look into that, Jane.
I'll get back to you.
Will you get back
to me?
Exactly.
Again, just just replace, you know, Tom Tiffany with Scott Walker and replace abortion with union busting laws, so called right to work laws, where Scott Walker said throughout 2014.
Oh, that's not a priority of mine.
And oh, we'll see.
And I'm not seeking that.
And it was like the very first bill that got passed after he got reelected and he couldn't sign it fast
enough,
which was odd for it not being a priority of his same thing would
happen here.
Well, and it's kind of like our Supreme Court.
We have Kavanaugh and Gorsuch and Coney
Jared, who all sat there and
lied.
It's already decided.
Yeah, it's already decided.
It's precedent.
We won't touch that.
Yeah, that
was
a
lie.
Well, and another thing too, really quick, is that I mentioned that to Dan, which you just mentioned as far as like the 2024 election, the 2016 election went one way.
It was very decisive in what Wisconsin wanted the president.
But our statewide elections have been
Not that same kind of the the two between those with regard to the Supreme Court of the state have shown very very decisively that this state moves More in the left when it comes to our state politics and that's something I think Tom Tiffany's gonna have a hard time dealing with

first runner-up first runner-up
It's like it's like third cause cousin twice removed, but we're award-winning
Pat Crightlow is here, host of Mornings with Pat Crightlow.
We're gonna talk about Senator Ron Johnson isn't happy, but I do wanna mention this because there are hearings now underway.
Attorney General Pam Bondi not answering questions in front of House members.
And she's being asked about Jeffrey Epstein and essentially avoiding every single possible question.
about what evidence they have and what they're going to share and all those things.
Yesterday, the president of the United States was asked whether or not he would consider granting a pardon for Jelaine Maxwell, of course, Jeffrey Epstein's procurer.
And he said, first of all, he said, who?
That's a name I haven't heard in so long You mean the woman you wished well when she was first sentenced to prison that woman that you wished her well Yeah Now he says I haven't heard that name in so long.
I'd have to take a look at it I'll speak to the DOJ the woman is in prison for trafficking children
And he doesn't come back with a no, I would never pardon her.
He comes back with, I don't know.
I'll have to look at it.
It was back with the the political version of how many, how many, how many.
Yeah,
I don't know.
We might.
He'll get back to you.
Yeah, he'll think on it.
OK, good to know.
Ron Johnson is very upset.
Because.
Oh, no.
Yeah, I know.
Republicans say the FBI targeted Rojo's phone records.
As part of an investigation into January 6th, along with several other Republicans, including Chuck Grassley, Johnson says, this doesn't surprise me.
It should shock every American.
It's a blatant abuse of power, a blatant political persecution.
There are tapes, videotapes of the fake electors, because that's what this is about.
Trying to get
these fake-elector ballots to Mike Pence on January 6th, so he would essentially throw the election to Donald Trump.
These guys are on videotape, Pat.
It will never not enrage me that we were this close, it appeared.
toward actual consequences for people who tried to overthrow an American election.
And all Ron Johnson did yesterday, along with these other Republican senators, was confirm how close we had all come for a country to heal and to have people who tried to undermine an election or undermine confidence in it the way that Ron Johnson did with his dog and pony show hearings, you know, in December of 2020.
and who almost became a mule for fake ballots if only that meddling Mike Pence had gone along with the whole scheme.
Yeah, that rotten Mike Pence.
So, I mean, Ron can clutch all the pearls he wants, but he's simply reminding us the depths to which he and others knew what Trump wanted to do and were willing to go along with whatever role he had decided for them to play.
And
They came awfully close to getting away with it.
Yes, but even though they didn't get away with overturning it they got away with you know avoiding any consequences and as a result being able to you know win again get back in power and undo any any Cleanup that was done to try to restore faith in American democracy.
So the story is just enraging on the notion that reminds us that they're
There are still we're still a long way from having justice done for what Donald Trump tried to do in 2020 without a doubt without a
doubt Well, it'll I'm sorry to say this it'll never happen.
We didn't we we've prosecuted one guy for the 2008 meltdown of Wall Street
And he was a lacking.
He was a lacking.
You think that sitting senators and congressmen are going to be thrown in prison or even just given a fine for trying to upend our elections?
And by the way, if you think that this was an abuse of power from the FBI, you are standing up and defending the attempt of overthrowing our democracy.
I'm sorry to sound dramatic, but as you said, Pat, I am tired of these guys.
When it happened, they were fearing for their lives.
So just justifiably so yes, and we all felt for them and now they're like they are tourists They were walking around.
They were having a good
time.
It was a love fest January 6 was a love
fest You're probably right Greg But I for one and one of the people going forward looking for that accountability in the next election and
the
election after that I want to hear candidates say this will not be a Gerald Ford pardoning Nixon situation I will pursue this until justice is done
Join Pat Crite Low for mornings with Pat Crite Low 6 to 9 on the Civic Media Radio Network.
Thank you so very much, Pat.
We will see you in a couple.
Thank you.
News coming up next and when we return, we'll be joined by the fabulous Farm Babe Pam Yankee.
Stay close.
You are listening to Matt Nair on air on the Civic Media Radio Network.
Welcome, welcome to Matt and air on air Jane Matt and air Greg buck and Kelvin mutant off coming to you live from our home here at radio park in Racine You can always join us call or text at 8 5 5 7 5 2 4 8 4 2 You can also leave a comment if you're watching on the live stream on Facebook YouTube and what used to be Twitter We are delighted to be joined by
The Fabulous Farm Babe from the Midwest Farm Report.
Pam Yankee is here.
It's been too long, my friend.
How are you?
Oh, I'm well.
I'm
well.
I'm back.
I'm back after quite a little experience last week with World Dairy Expo.
So
you're catching me on a good day.
I finally have got a little energy back.
We're going to talk about that in just a little bit.
We wanted to talk about the World Dairy Expo that was going on.
That's a big event.
and we'll get to that in a little bit, but there's so many other things to talk about, Pam, especially with regards to farmers and tariffs, and in particular, Wisconsin's soybean growers.
So I'm curious what you are hearing from folks when you're on the ground.
well for those of you that are watching on the stream you may see me paging i'm kind of watching headlines right now because we're expecting today more details on the federal aid that's designed to go directly to farmers that are being hit by the lower soybean prices now there's a ripple effect all the way around on this i don't want you to think that this is.
just for soybean growers.
We understand that there may also be some other grains that are incorporated in some of this federal aid.
That's why I'm kind of antsy about the details.
But basically what this is designed to do is China has been missing in action as far as purchasing US soybeans.
They are purchasing incredible amounts of soybeans from Brazil and Argentina and other areas.
Some of our US soybeans might be, as they say, back during it, coming around from other vendors into China.
But as far as direct sales, we've had zero.
That's a major hit.
And it's a statement, obviously.
And so as farmers go into the harvest, the option of what's out there as far as price isn't very good.
This morning, I was talking with a commodity broker, and he said, for farms that are in the upper Midwest, so that'd be Minnesota, North Dakota,
even South Dakota all the way across, anybody that's growing soybeans, most of those soybeans would normally go to the Pacific Northwest out by Seattle to go out ocean bearing to China.
Well, they don't have them.
They don't need them over there.
So it's not only disrupting, and the farmers there are being, I'll call it dinged, because normally they would get a premium if they can get those beans going.
to the international market.
It's a straight shot.
You don't have to worry about a lot of congestion as far as rail lines so they can get a move in.
That brings them a premium because of location, speed of harvest, that type of thing.
That's all gone.
So those marketing options that farmers normally had are all gone.
So the money will likely go from the farmers mailbox, shall we say, directly to everybody that they owe because they've got bills
that these beans were supposed to take
care of.
To pay for
it, yeah.
So fertilizer bills, seed bills, diesel, anything like that.
So don't think that farmers are going to be driving around in escalades or anything like that.
My apologies to anybody that's driving in an escalade.
I love them too.
But you get my point.
They are not going to be going on vacations and all this kind of stuff.
Most of that money is going directly to pay the debt that that crop incurred.
when they planted it.
So like I said, I wish I knew a little bit more as of right now on the details, the amount.
The other question I have is now that the federal government shut down, who is going to get this money to them?
USDA normally would go through the Farm Service Agency office or some of our arteries that way.
We're not getting anything from USDA today.
Today, like an idiot, I walked into the studio looking for my weekly crop progress report by USDA.
So it's little things like that that we are still
piecing together.
So as I said, if you're watching on the stream, that's one of the reasons why I'm scrolling through my phone to see if there's any breaking news or if we're getting any details as of this time.
Well, and Pam, for someone like me who doesn't know that process as far as getting the money, it's not just USDA.
If we're talking about money being sent to farmers, what is the entire process?
Does it have to go through Congress be approved or is it just it's authorized by someone and the USDA issues money?
And then there you go.
Backer up to the first time that the Trump administration was in place.
This is exactly the same thing they did at that time and basically because Farmers are such a documented group of people I mean the federal government's got paper on them everywhere because of government programs checkoff programs all that kind of stuff So the footprint is there as far as how we don't know how much and we don't know when
And again, like I said, if it's going to involve a USDA mechanism to try to deliver that money, even though most of it all goes direct deposit into the farm bank account, like I said, I'm still uncertain of which flange of the federal government is going to pull the trigger.
But no, this is exactly the same thing that the Trump administration did the first time he was in office and lost some of our critical markets.
Again, open the pocketbook and there she goes.
Well, and going back to the first Trump administration, our farmers never came back entirely from that.
As you said, they lost markets that never came back because other countries were like, well, I'm going to find a more stable market where I can rely on things.
Yeah, that's a strong conversation that we're having in agriculture right now.
And there's certain commodities that
lend themselves to that kind of thing.
For example, at any given time in the world, somebody's growing wheat.
Well, you're not really at a competitive advantage if you're growing wheat and you can't market everywhere.
Soybeans are getting to be the same way.
Right now, South America dominates the world production in soybeans.
So as long as China wants to keep going with them,
despite their currency uncertainty, transportation issues in country and out, they've got the beans.
But I've heard analysts say that China's consumption of soybeans is bigger this year than it was last year.
So ultimately, they are going to have to come to the United States, or like I said, backdoor it from the United States somehow.
But to your point, Jane, I mentioned it at the outset, the federal monies that are going to be distributed to farmers to offset the soybean losses
are to offset debt that they are currently carrying on the soybeans they've got that they're
having.
They're sitting
there.
They're not coming ahead.
There is no profit.
You are just trying to cover your butt and keep credit coming your way for the growing season of 2026.
So yeah, to your point, this isn't a recovery.
This is basically making sure that farmers stay viable to get into the next growing season.
It's
a bandaid.
Yeah.
It's a bandaid.
Oh, yeah.
Oh yeah, and every farmer knows it.
If you're just joining us, we are speaking to the fabulous Farm Bay, the host of the Midwest Farm Report, Pam Yankee.
She is our guest today.
I'm Matt Narenair and we're talking to her about.
We talked to her as well as Darren Von Rudin about the farming world getting updates from the community and we're talking about the devastation to the soybean market, which has been zeroed out here in the United States due to tariff policies and whatnot.
And the question I have for you, Pam, is you talk to farmers way more than I do.
But what I do know is that they don't want handouts.
They don't want the government coming in and writing checks all the time.
They want partnership.
They want leadership.
But how do they feel about another bailout?
Yeah, well, I think what they ultimately are hoping is this is just one example of what will turn out to be a better outcome.
Remember, farmers are like all of us.
They are not, and this is a poor pun, they're not siloed.
So it is not the only thing they think about.
They think about immigration.
They think about the possibilities down the road.
If I have to suffer pain now, but it's going to bring
change or dividends or better markets or more operations that I can work with, they will take that pain.
Don't get me wrong.
They don't want to check, but they are ready to take the pain if in the end it helps the United States get into a better place with Canada, with the European Union.
I mean, I know we're focusing on China and rightly so, but if you talk to farmers, they'll say, hey, cheese exports are up over 30%.
That's going into the world marketplace.
There have been some agreements.
We've got a lot of product now that's going into Southeast Asia.
I never imagined.
But as people's income grow, they have more interest in dairy products, for example.
So granted, soybeans is a major, major commodity for the United States, for Wisconsin farmers.
But when you talk to farmers on an individual basis, they are...
wise to the whole makeup of the pie.
They don't focus on just
one thing,
especially Wisconsin.
Now that's Wisconsin.
You get to other states where they are much more, I won't say monoculture, but corn beans, pigs, that's Iowa,
corn
bee.
Then obviously they get a little more excited.
In Wisconsin, we've got such diversity.
We can, we see things a little differently.
But like I said, they still would prefer to be a competitor in the open marketplace and go for it than
have to stand by and see if this is going to take care of just the soybean bill.
Now, that's just soybean.
We're not talking about corn yet.
We don't know if that's included.
We're not talking about wheat.
In Wisconsin, we've got dairy cows.
There's nothing about, you know, how are you going to feed your dairy cows, that kind of stuff.
So it's a process.
We've seen it before.
We'll see how this one goes if it's got any tweaks.
But as I said, as of right now, we're just lacking a lot of details.
I'm curious though Pam and then we got to go to a break but I saw a soybean farmer on Newsmax yesterday and he essentially said we are being tariffed so if I want to buy a part for my tractor I pay more in order to get that part because of these tariffs and now the president is going to give me back my money that I paid in tariffs.
Is there any resentment that you're hearing among farmers about that?
No, no, no, and I'd be curious to know where that guy was because I mean geography matters in agriculture It really does and I understand and it also it also matters what kind of equipment you're running if you're running John Deere That's still primarily sourced in the United States as far as you know the parts and that type of thing if you've got something that comes from the European Union That may be something that comes from Canada that may be a brand that is a victim but but you know the bottom line is
The tariff money is supposedly some great savings pot somewhere being held by the federal government.
And a dipper of that is coming back to U.S.
farmers in the form of these discussed funds that are going to be targeted specifically to soybeans.
So I get his point.
But at the same time, you said that dairy is doing well.
Yeah, dairy is doing very well.
I mean, like almost
You know, it makes you kind of wonder when you can see cheese exports go up 30 over 30 percent.
And now remember, Wisconsin has got a huge, huge corner on the market because of specialty cheeses.
Even with tariffs, you cannot find the flavors of cheeses produced in Wisconsin anywhere else in the world.
You cannot find cranberries produced in Wisconsin anywhere else in the world.
You just have to understand.
So if you want them.
you got to step up.
The relationships have been there.
We talked about that a lot at World Dairy Expo.
But like I said, farmers understand and we'll really understand it.
I just wrote a check for my fertilizer bill for next year and about had to have a bottle next to me so that I could get through it because that is that is insane.
The fertilizer bill on my on my small farm in O'Connor County, it was up 30% compared to last year.
And that's not only global demand on fertilizer, but it's also
We're gonna dig you while we can could be Vladimir could be you know, you don't know but all I know is PMD farms kicked in extra 30% Just make sure that my crops will have something to grow with next year
while we're gonna continue our conversation She is the fabulous farm babe from the Midwest farm report Pam Yankee is our guest and will continue on the other side stay close You are listening to Matt Nair on air.
This is the Civic Media radio network and we'll be right back
Good morning!
Welcome back to Matt and Air on Air.
Jane Matt and Air, Greg Bach, Calvitini on the board, coming to you from our studio at Radio Park in Racine.
Join us, call or text at 855-752-4842.
If you're watching on the live stream on Facebook, YouTube, and what used to be Twitter coming up in about a half an hour, we will wrap up the show as we always do with a segment called, This Shouldn't Be a Thing.
Today, there's the hot and spicy edition, so stay tuned for that.
Right now that we're joined by the fabulous Farm Babe,
With the Midwest Farm Report, Pam Yankee is here.
We're talking all things farming.
We wanted to talk a little bit, Pam, about, and we've talked about this before with you, about mental health on the farm.
And whether or not our farmers are getting enough help, whether or not they are seeking help, can you give us a little update on where we are on that?
Well, we're more focused in the Midwest farm report along with rural mutual insurance this week is trying to really bring visibility to the resources that are available to farms and farm families This is a difficult time always is I mean harvest is busy busy You're dependent on the weather which has been very favorable for Wisconsin farmers this year so far on but you do get tired
you know, that stretch last week, they, they estimated that we probably had somewhere in the neighborhood of 55,000 people at World Dairy Expo, probably could have had about another 10 or so if the weather wouldn't have been so good.
But Wisconsin farmers stayed home to keep harvesting, because in Wisconsin, you don't look a gift horse in the
month
you've done rolling.
But when you start doing long hours, long hours, long hours, part of the reason we talk about it is safety.
You're not as sharp.
You miss that step.
just simple things that can be life altering when you're working around big equipment on
a
farm.
So we think safety.
But then there's also the questions that we were talking about before the break.
Holy man, this crop of soybeans that I thought was going to bring profit is now barely break even if that.
You worry about that kind of thing.
You worry about milk milk.
production is up quite substantially.
That means milk prices are starting to slip.
You worry about that kind of thing.
So there's never a lack of things to pre-occupy farmers when it comes to worry.
But we do point out that they're getting better about using resources.
I've talked to Jess Bochamp.
She is with the Wisconsin Farmer Wellness Program.
It's 24-7.
Farmers are becoming more comfortable.
Calling her and saying, you know, here's what's going on or just a little something she can give them a voucher and she said the percentage of vouchers that are now being used has gone up.
That's
great.
That's a really good yes, you know, I'll tell you and honestly, I don't think we have to segment out farmers Farmers are like all the rest of us.
It's not just about the commodities in the weather It's also about maybe somebody in the family's got a drug problem or an alcohol problem
or there's an abuse problem going on, or just family dynamics.
Listen, we all know that is not easy to talk about.
Farmers are always about rub a little dirt on it and keep on going.
It'll it'll it'll fix itself
right it'll
be fine
right
and we know that's not the case So again call volumes remain pretty steady at the wisconsin farm center housed within the department of ag trade and consumer protection They've got the farmer wellness program.
That's 24 7 so if just isn't answering the phone There is another counselor that will answer the phone to make sure you're getting hooked together.
Just also told me that more and more And I think we learned this farmers sure learned it during the pandemic.
They are creating virtual forums
where they can come together just like we're doing on the civic
media
stream and talk about what's going on in their lives and you can remain anonymous, you know, shut your camera off if you still want to be involved in the conversation and you form a little bit of a bond with other people that are struggling with the same kinds of things in the same profession.
So are we there yet?
Meh, I don't know.
Do I feel better that there's a little bit more uptake?
on the resources that are out there?
Yes.
Do we have a way to go?
Yes.
Like I said, there's a lot of different things that anyone family is dealing with.
Farmers are no different than that.
But I do see, especially the younger farmers are more likely to engage in the conversation.
The older demographic is still.
It's still
hard.
Get on it and get on
it.
I'm going to fix it myself and I don't need any help.
And there is no shame in asking for help.
There is no shame in admitting that
you need
somebody to
talk
to.
But what you just mentioned with those forums that they're having, that's a huge thing.
That's
a huge
step in the right direction.
I sometimes think that farmers, when I get with my farmer buddies, now granted, I'm an old broad, so they've known me for quite a while, but they never do it.
They never think that people care about them.
They just don't think people care about them.
And you and I see
social media posts and all that kind of stuff and They just don't they just are so doggone humble they do not think people care about them like that and I'll tell you I've talked to guys that are very upset with their Situation get the farm or whatever and I said you know what buddy you don't realize what you can do
You are a jack of all trades master of none.
You're a mechanic.
You're an electrician.
You know animal nutrition You know, I mean, you know budgets you do accounting you do bookkeeping you do all of these things that any one person Dedicates their career to you do it all in a day and you take it for granted.
Do not sell yourself short Don't knock your value down.
You are incredible and sometimes like I said, it's a treat from the forest kind of thing
Sometimes I need to wrap them alongside the head and say, look at how great you are.
Look at how fabulous you are.
That's why you're the
fabulous,
but
that's why you're the
fabulous farm babe.
And I put a link to that program through the farm center in our show notes.
So if there's people out there listening who want to seek help, who need a voucher, go there, click that link.
CivicMedia.us slash shows, look for mountain air on air.
It's our two of today.
It'll be there for you if you need help.
Yep, beautiful.
Check it out.
Take advantage of it.
She is with the Midwest Farm Report, the fabulous farm babe and our friend Pam Yankee.
Thank you so very much, Pam.
It was great to see you.
We will talk to you hopefully soon.
Absolutely.
Take care.
Take care.
Have fun.

Prizes, 200 bucks in cash, gold jewelry.
Thanks to everyone who participated.
It was so much fun.
And we will do another text to win contest.
Make sure you download the Civic Media app.
That is the only way to play.
She is now joining us once a month.
Our friend and colleague, we call her the genie of just about everything in Civic Media.
Award winning journalist, Terry Barr is here.
Good morning, Terry.
Oh, good morning to you and the listeners on the stream, wherever you may be listening.
And congrats, do you know how the text to win went?
Did you guys win this time?
We did not.
Oh,
do you know who won?
Because he had, he had the word twice.
Tom Hartman.
No kidding.
Tom Hartman won.
Rigged.
The whole
thing was
rigged.
Tom Hartman won.
Oh my gosh.
And it's funny, Terry, because I was on with Todd yesterday.
I was on Todd's show yesterday at 2.30.
Yeah,
yeah, you have the Mondays
now.
And he brought that up.
And at the very beginning of the contest, I texted him and I said, I'm going to contest the results because Tom Hartman gets two words and we only get one.
That's not fair.
I just think, you know.
Yeah,
I was
cheering for you and Greg and for Todd, because it's always so fun to listen to the two of you and find out, you know, who's going to win.
Next time around, we're just not going to count Tom Hartman.
Wow, you really you're really going to like a Trumpian way
here.
If we don't count Tom Hartman,
it didn't happen.
Then we won.
Yeah.
No, that's that.
We're following a good example.
Oh, my God.
We're following the prime example of how to make sure you
win.
I didn't mean to come on and cause trouble.
Oh, really, Terry?
You didn't?
You didn't know you're going to kick this hornet's nest?
Cool.
Hey, you were at the Brewer's Game.
I was.
I'm surprised I have a voice today.
Here's our, you know, we get the towels to go and...
scream and, oh, you guys, I just love the brewers so much.
Since I was little, little, little, thank you to my dad.
And this is quite a ride right now.
What was the atmosphere like at MFM Field last night?
You could not hear anything.
I don't think Milwaukee fans stopped cheering from before the team was even introduced.
It was
so crazy.
I've never heard it that loud in there unless you've been there for a concert.
One of the things that people were talking about was the fear of the invasion of the suburban Chicagoites, North Siders, whatever you want to call them, Cubs fans.
But it felt like
at least from the highlight reel I watched from yesterday, it felt like the Brewers had a very deep representation in the stadium.
And there were Cubs fans there, of course, but it certainly wasn't a thing where.
You know, the Brewers were present.
That's what it sounded like.
Absolutely.
And I think even more so since Saturday.
The Cubs fans are pretty loud Saturday, but they were quieted quickly when the Brewers won
basically
right from the beginning.
But last night was a little different because they started strong.
Yeah.
And the Brewers had to claw back to get that win.
But we noticed even just walking around.
Yeah, not as big.
of a representation from Cubs fans.
So I do see now they are putting out a similar
Tweet, don't sell your tickets.
Tickets?
Yeah.
Yeah, don't sell your regular tickets.
Of
course, that was the thing earlier in the weekend.
Don't sell your tickets to Cubs fans if you're coming to Milwaukee.
And oh boy, are they whining this morning?
Wine?
Wine, wine, wine.
Oh my gosh,
Twitter is just.
Everything's unfair.
Yeah, yeah, or or the the brewers.
Why are you celebrating that?
That wasn't that big of a thing.
Me, me, me, me.
Yeah, it's just
really, it's just really whiny.
Oh,
that's
awful.
Oh, it's kind of
amusing.
Yeah.
And the fans that I ran into and even, you know, chatted with here and there, the Cubs fans, they were having a great time.
Those who were at the game.
So then you wonder who's the complainers.
It's the sports writers who were complaining this morning.
Oh,
yeah.
It was it was really like I saw a lot of people who write for Chicago sports media and they just will not allow.
It's like it's like they don't understand or they can't calculate joy in their operating system.
So
when people are
having fun, they immediately have to go the...
the, you know, bitter writers, you know, real 1940s behavior of like, I don't understand why these kids celebrate.
Cause he's a 23 year old kid.
He's pitching the major league.
Of course he's happy.
He's excited.
Oh, he had such he played great.
If I were him, I would have been celebrating my play too.
Ignore
the haters.
Yeah.
Yeah.
He's having fun.
That's
what
this team is all about.
Absolutely.
Right.
Go crew tomorrow from Wrigley field.
It's going to be.
Big game they could wrap it up tomorrow.
They can wrap it up to it in my brain if they get let's see here 334 They only need like nine eight or nine victories in a row and they win everything.
That's it.
That's it.
That's easy There you go.
All right, what have you got what have you got for us today?
What's going on Wisconsin?
It is a new slice of Wisconsin.
And I love this.
It's perfect timing with the fall leaves.
And it's a great chance for everyone to just sort of slow down, take a drive.
You can only go 45 miles an hour on these particular rustic roads.
Oh, I like
it.
Yeah, Rustic Roads, 50 years old.
This year with the very first one in Taylor and Price Counties.
Now, I'm gonna ask a few questions.
You know why we have Rustic Roads.
Because they're cool.
Winner, got it.
Yeah!
I love that.
That is a great answer.
I don't
think
that's
the answer.
It pretty much is the answer.
Really?
Way back 50 years ago, they wanted an opportunity for people to just slow down, as we said, to be able to hike on these roads to take your bicycle, your motorcycle, or if you are in a car to keep
the speed down and look around and enjoy the beauty of Wisconsin.
And some of these roads are gravel, dirt, and some are paved.
So you're getting a different experience no matter where you travel.
Do you know how many rustic roads are designated all across the state?
122.
Just pick that out of the air.
Okay.
126.
Whoa!
Excellent.
Jane!
61 counties now have rustic roads and that's across 760 miles in Wisconsin.
I just think this is so great when you find out these are like hidden gems
actually.
Yes they are.
You can go yeah and what a great time to go and then to think these are going to be you know celebrating 50 years starting this month and I did look up
Let's see.
Racine County has six rustic roads designations.
Waukesha County has three.
And
then Washington and Ozaki County together has three that kind of cross the borders.
There are maps there.
They're really fun too.
Very interactive.
You can zoom on in to see what you would be.
Yeah.
and that's all at the wisconsin dot dot gov uh website and then just look under rustic roads i think this is so great and you know another thing is the sign is very open when you first hit that rustic road it's a big brown sign
with
gold lettering that says welcome to this rustic road so i just want to encourage everybody what a great time of year to get out there and enjoy the state
And again, to slow down, everybody keeps saying, you know, touch the grass,
maybe
touch the leaves or just get outside for a minute and just have a
Ah, covering of the mines.
Absolutely.
You absolutely need that.
And I think I do think that motorcycle riders have probably been hip to this for much longer.
These rustic drives and these scenic drives than a lot of us are.
But I know, you know, motorcycle clubs do big rides in areas like that.
And it's very much about
Looking around you and seeing what's there and now the trees a friend and I were just in prairie duchine over the weekend They're just starting to turn in that corner of the state But I would think over the next two two and a half three weeks the colors are going to be unbelievable
and Officials say if you happen to travel somewhere that is not considered a rustic road or it doesn't have the designation
It's how they find out about it through you.
Oh.
Yeah.
So you can be part of this.
Isn't that fun?
That can help designate your own rustic road.
Yeah.
There are applications on the Department of Transportation website.
Pretty simple to fill out, and then they go take a look at it, take photos, and let you know if your designation is a yes or no.
Look at that.
I want that job.
That'd be a
great job.
I know when that'd be fun.
I'll go look.
Go for a drive.
There you go.
Why not?
I love that idea.
I think you'd have a good time.

Author New York Times bestselling author Andrew Watkins is going to be joining us.
We have uh, Andrew started early on With a sub-stack about project 2025.
Mm-hmm before this was Even mainstream in the news.
Yeah, she had been covering this she was raised in a white Christian nationalist household and now there are a number of members
of that group within the Trump administration.
And you can see it by some of the things that they're enacting through Project 2025, which was always the playbook for a second Trump administration.
the author works for him.
Yes, the author Russ vote is the head of the office of management and budget.
So Andrew Watkins will be joining us in our number one.

I don't have money.
I can at least help advocate on their behalf.
Absolutely.
And as we were talking with Pam too, just about mental health and everything, and this goes for all of us, there's no shame in asking for help.

This from CTV News in Canada.
Melanie Kentner has the byline, the headline reads, Salsa Heist, $35,000 worth of dips stolen in Essex County, Ontario.
This is a hot story, let me tell you.
Exactly.
Ontario Provisional Police say $35,000 worth of salsa and chips were stolen during the theft of two tractor trailers
won a 53 foot long and closed trailer stolen at the end of September.
It was loaded with cases of salsa and dip worth approximately $35,000.
The truck was later returned to the location, damaged and without the trailer, but they brought the truck back.
Yeah, the truck doesn't belong to me.
So that says
I wouldn't steal
that.
I mean, yeah.
Well, I mean, okay.
Times are tough.
Costs are going up.
Some Mexican restaurants don't just give you chips and salsa for free anymore.
And if you have to find your way of getting one of your favorite things to do, which is taking your number three thing to get your number one thing to your face, then that's what you do.
I'm sorry, I'm not trying to justify crime here, but times are tough.
We do what we can.
A
transport truck that was stolen actually two days later, there was a second transport truck without a trailer.
that was stolen from the same area.
It was later seen towing what investigators believe was the truck, the trailer that was stolen earlier with the chips and salsa.
It's a salsa wave.
It's a crime salsa wave.
The stolen trailer and the cargo remain outstanding.
No one knows where the trailer went.
Investigators believe a Jeep Rubicon was seen in the area and may have been involved.
So if you live in Essex County, Ontario,
A local police asking anyone who might have information to contact them, you can stay anonymous.
You know, if you notice at parties, one of your friends or family is gifting everybody chips and salsa.
Big like jugs.
Yeah.
Huge salsa flag there.
Yeah.
Call the provincial police.
And I mean, just, I know you don't want to, you don't want to snitch on a friend, but this is important.
Be a part of it be a part of the solution be part of the solution
exactly that wraps up today's episode of
This shouldn't be a thing Thank you Greg
