Good morning.
Welcome.
Welcome to Baton Air on air.
Jane Natnair, Greg Bach, Calvin Butenoff coming to you live from our studio here at Radio Park in Racine.
You can always join us.
Call her text.
The number is the same at 855.
7-5-2-4-8-4-2.
Leave a comment if you're watching on the live stream on Facebook, YouTube, and what used to be Twitter.
We have a really busy show for you today.
Our friend and colleague and host of the Dr. Kristen Lyrely Show Weekends in Green Bay, Dr. Kristen Lyrely will be here.
We're going to talk about Tylenol.
Because,
of course, yesterday the Trump administration came out and said, yeah, don't take it, don't take it.
We have quite a compilation.
Yeah, it's a wonderful smash cup put together by someone we'll be talking about in a moment.
Yes.
So Kristen Lyrely will be here to talk about pregnancy, acetaminophen.
That's how you say the word.
And many other things as well.
Tom Tiffany has thrown his hat in the ring for Wisconsin governor.
We will talk with Dr. Lyrely a little bit about his position on abortion and many other things.
In hour number two, we're gonna lighten things up today.
Grant Holly is the executive director of the Wisconsin State Cranberries Association.
We are going beyond the cheese to talk about cranberries.
It is a big, big export in Wisconsin.
It's a lot bigger than I think people understand.
We could easily be the cranberry state.
Yeah, very much so.
So we're going to learn about Wisconsin cranberry growers.
you can bake with lots of cranberries.
And about a wonderful festival taking place this weekend.
Absolutely.
So that's all coming up.
After the 10 o'clock news, 1035, we're gonna talk to David Grant, who's a colleague here at Civic Media.
He is in Baraboo at Max FM.
And every year they do this great fundraiser for a local domestic violence shelter.
It's like the only shelter in that area serving multiple counties.
And they have a request show.
That's going to happen tomorrow.
And the reason we bring this up is because thanks to the Civic Media app, which you're going to need in just a minute, you can listen to stations all over the state.
Yeah.
So you can click on, you know, when you open up your app and you can click on W up Max FM in Baraboo, and you can listen to the live stream.
And so with this fundraiser tomorrow, you call it a request.
It costs you $5.
Someone else.
can get your request bumped if they don't want to hear that request by pledging a little bit more money.
It's a great, great event.
And so David Gran is gonna join us.
I encourage you to join them tomorrow as they do this great fundraiser for Hope House.
Again, a domestic violence shelter that is serving multiple counties.
in that part of the state and then we'll wrap up the show as we always do with this shouldn't be a thing today it is the no dogs allowed edition so stay tuned for that right now though we do have some breaking news now breaking news from civic media this from CNN shortly before we came on the
air this
broke about a half an hour ago there has been a shooting at a US immigration and ICE facility in Dallas at least two detainees
are among the victims.
They have died.
Another person has been hospitalized in critical condition.
The gunman dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
But this broke as we were coming on the air about 30 minutes ago.
At least two detainees are dead.
The gunman is dead.
a third person hospitalized in critical condition.
After a shooting this morning at an ice facility in Dallas, a lot of things are unknown at this point.
We don't know much about, I haven't seen anything yet about the gunman.
So before people start jumping off and making assumptions, we're gonna wait and see what develops.
But again, there was a shooting this morning at an ice facility in Texas.
Two detainees are dead.
The gunman is dead and a third person has been hospitalized in critical condition.
We will give you updates as they become available and as the morning goes on.
As we mentioned, you need the Civic Media app.
Absolutely.
For numerous reasons.
Yes.
It's a great way, again, to listen to stations all across the state.
It's a great way to enter.

Let me clarify.
There's not an internal competition.
This is a Jane competition she's doing right now.

We go get your phone.
All right, open up the civic media app
The word for this hour is YARD.
Y-A-R-D spelling counts.
Yes, it does.
The word to text in right now until 10 o'clock via the Civic Media app is YARD.
Y-A-R-D.
YARD is the word.
Just like Rita just entered from La Crosse and Steven in La Crosse and Sarah in Green Bay.
They're coming in.
Michael and Tosa and Isaac and Baraboo and Jim in Brookfield.
Oh, I love it.
Yard.
It does.
It
makes me very happy.
I can tell.
It doesn't take a lot.
Yard is the
word.
Y-A-R-D.
Really quick my cousin Debbie.
I love you to death.
You can't put it on the live stream You gotta text it and download the Civic
Media Honey.
Did he email
you?
No, she just put it on the live stream.
Honey, I love you so much You gotta download the app and then you can text it through the app, but you can't do it over the live stream.
Nice try though.
Maybe she'd be a character cousin Debbie.
Oh, I like that.
Cousin Debbie checking it.
Yes, if you you should have the Civic Media app because it is.
App?
Absolutely free and text in the word yard y a r d again up for grabs $200 in cash gold jewelry and then the grand prize those great Club level indoor seats two of them when Green Bay and Minnesota face off November 23rd at noon and a gas card to get you there and back worth fifteen hundred and fifty bucks.
Good luck.
Yeah, and again you have until 10 o'clock
Only an hour, you have one hour to text in that word.
The word again is yard, Y-A-R-D.
One of the start off, it's getting a little play on social media.
Just a
skosh.
Just a little attention.
Oh my goodness.
Yeah.
How many millions?
So when I woke up this morning at 4.30, because I'm old and I get up early, this clip was at 3.9 million views.
It is now less than five hours later.
It is almost a 10 million views.
Wow.
And this is a 30 minute clip, by the way.
Yeah, it's a long it's a it's a long watch.
And who is it?
It's Jimmy Kimmel, who is a late night talk show back on the air.
Yes,
of last night.
Yep.
Jimmy Kimmel came back last night after he was suspended, not
fired,
not fired, suspended from ABC and Disney.
And he was back last night and getting a lot of attention.
And we wanted to play some clips.
Yes.
from Jimmy's return last night.
Kevin, let's start with clip number one from Jimmy Kimmel's return last night on TV.
He tried his best to cancel me, instead he forced millions of people to watch the show.
That backfired bigly.
He might have to release the Epstein files to distract us from this now.
Yeah, he was not,
he did not grovel.
He didn't grovel.
He didn't hold back.
No, he didn't.
But you watch the whole thing.
He came with a whole heap in two scoops of class.
Yes, he did.
And quite a bit of emotion as well.
He is an emotional man.
He is a man who I think of all late night hosts.
He's the one who doesn't hold back when he, when they start to overtake him, whether he's talking about his son, whether he's talking about America, he lets, and I think that's important.
I think that's a very, very connective, especially for men, especially Jimmy Kimmel.
Jimmy Kimmel's history and radio and TV is one of a lot of controversy, a lot of discussion from the old days.
You can talk about what you want and we can't get in today.
I understand.
But the fact that this man stands up in front of America and talks about what he loves about this country shows love to the people that are disagreed with.
It means a lot to me personally.
But it was a it's it's I think it's 28 plus minutes worth of your time.
We are going to include this clip in our show
notes.
So you can check it out after the show is over.
And as Greg said, I highly encourage you to watch it.
We have several clips that we're going to play from Jimmy Cable.
Kevin, let's play clip number two, please.
I am a tiny part of the Disney Corporation.
They welcomed me back on the air, and I thank them for that.
And I think unjustly, this puts them at risk.
The President of the United States made it very clear he wants to see me and the hundreds of people who work here fired from our jobs.
Our leader celebrates Americans losing their livelihoods because he can't take a joke.
He was... Yes.
Yes.
Pretty much.
And that's the other thing too.
You know, those people out there who got in touch with us and people who are on social media saying, good, he should be fired.
Uh, yeah, that has, it's not just Jimmy Kimmel losing it.
Jimmy Kimmel loses his job right now.
He's fine for the, his grandchildren, great-grandchildren are fine for the rest of their lives.
There are hundreds of people who work on those shows.
They're not making millions.
They depend upon those jobs.
And when the leader of our country is applauding the fact that they're being fired, doesn't sound like a great add to the economy, if you ask me.
Because
his feelings get hurt because
Kimmel makes fun of
him.
Because
he's a
thin skin tyrant.
He is.
I'm sorry if that offends you, but he is thin-skinned.
Yes, and absolutely cannot take a joke.
No, no The reason this is important for all of us as you said There are ramifications from this.
Yes, if the leader of our country is allowed to dictate what we see and gets to curate the major media in this country
This is what happened in China.
This is what they did in Hungary.
This is what they wrote about in Project 2025.
Absolutely.
You know, that book that actually exists, no matter what your friends say or know about it, it still exists.
It's out there and it's being implemented
right now.
And being implemented very rapidly.
Yep.
We've talked to Andrew Watkins about this numerous times.
If you are at all familiar with the Seven Mountains Dominion religious sect.
This is part of their goal is to take over major media.
Yeah, not so much freedom.
No, not so much freedom.
It's about curating what people see.
Yeah, we're gonna continue talking about Jimmy Kimmel's return last night.
You can always join us at 855-752-4842 and don't forget the word YARD Y-A-R-D text in the word YARD via the Civic Media app.
It is our multi-state text to win go for the green and gold contest.
Keep it right here.
We'll be right back on the Civic Media Radio Network.
Good morning.
Welcome back to Matt Nair on air.
Jane Matt Nair, Greg Bach, Dr. Slide on the board coming to you live from our studio here at Radio Park in Racine.

Good morning live stream on Facebook, YouTube and what used to be Twitter.
Also make sure you have the Civic Media app.
It's not going to cost you anything.
No.
Could get
you things.
Could gain you
things.
Could gain you things.
Absolutely.
Our multi-state text to win go for the green and gold contest is underway through this week and all of next week.
You have seven chances every day to pick up prizes, the daily prize, 200 bucks in cash and gold jewelry and the grand prize to club level indoor seats when Green Bay and Minnesota meet up November 23rd at noon.
We even give you a gas card.
Yeah.
So you can get it there and home.
We can't guarantee that you'll win the prize, but I can guarantee you'll get two things from the Civic Media app.
Information and fun.
There you go.
Look at that and that smile.
So here's the word.
The word to text in by 10 o'clock is yard.
Y. A. R. D. Text in the word yard.
And you are in the running for all of those fans.
Fantastic prizes.
Good luck.
We were talking before the break about Jimmy Kimmel's return to ABC last night.
Yeah Jim from Brookfield texting in good morning Jane and Greg my wife and I watched Kimmel last night We both think he spoke very well.
He never apologized.
His message was remorseful to anyone who may have been offended Jimmy Kimmel showed much more class than Donald Trump Who has no class Jim from Brookfield?
True.
Yeah, he was.
Yeah, I thought he was great last night.
Jimmy Kimmel was.
And frankly, all those people who texted in said, oh, he got fired.
Good.
He got fired because of ratings.
They're quiet now because once again, either they've moved on or the fact of the matter is, is this is a dangerous precedent.
Yes, absolutely.
Because he's not the first late night host to be in the attempt of silencing.
They've done it to Stephen Colbert.
He will be off the air as of next summer.
He's done that show.
That show is being canceled, by the way,
not
just him.
The show is being canceled, which is
employees, hundreds of people.
Exactly.
And yeah, with Jimmy Kimmel, same.
It's the same thing only now when we talked about yesterday and when it originally happened.
This was never about freedom.
This was never about ratings.
This is about money and deals and the FCC and sucking up to the Trump administration to get your money because apparently.
$50 billion is it enough?
No.
And 80% of the airwaves is it enough?
I need more, because more is better than less.
And I'm a more man of America.
I love freedom and more.
So he was amazing.
It was an amazing, amazing clip.
I have it in the show notes.
Please watch it.
Yeah, it's definitely worth a watch.
We have a time to get a couple more clips in here, Calvin.
Let's do a clip number for his non-fans, please.
Maybe most of all,
I want to thank the people who don't support my show and what I believe, but support my right to share those beliefs anyway.
It's the
First Amendment.
Or I never would have imagined.
Like Ben Shapiro, Clay Travis, Candace Owens, Mitch McConnell, Rand Paul, even my old pal Ted Cruz, who, believe it or not, said something very beautiful on my behalf.
I hate what Jimmy Kimmel said.
I am thrilled that he was fired.
He wasn't fired.
Good Christian.
No, not that.
The other part.
But let me tell you, if the government gets in the business of saying what you the media have said, we're going to ban you from the airwaves.
If you don't say what we like, that will end up bad for conservatives.
I don't think I've ever said this before, but Ted Cruz is right.
He's
absolutely right.
It affects all of us, including him.
I mean, think about it.
If Ted Cruz can't speak freely, then he can't cast spells on the Smurfs.
And you know, I...
I don't disagree with that statement, and I think it's very important to point out that, yes, there are people on the right, people who disagree with Jimmy Kimmel, who came out in favor of him and his right to speak and speak his mind, and nothing controversial or offensive in what he said.
But my problem also is the fact that Ted Cruz is...
Cruz has completely enabled this administration almost since the jump when he realized he wasn't going to be president when he knew that he had to grovel at the feet of the king he's
been a
part of this problem so I applaud his support but you are part of the problem
yeah there's no question about that another clip from Jimmy Kimmel's return last night to ABC and this is I think the best of them all what is important Calvin let's play that please
This show is not important.
What is important is that we get to live in a country that allows us to have a show like this.
I've had the opportunity to meet and spend time with comedians, talk show hosts from countries like Russia, countries in the Middle East who tell me they would get thrown in prison.
for making fun of those in power, who are worse than being thrown in prison.
They know how lucky we are here.
Our freedom to speak is what they admire most about this country.
And that's something I'm embarrassed to say I took for granted until they pulled my friend Stephen off the air and tried to coerce the affiliates who run our show in the cities that you live in to take my show off the air.
That's not legal.
That's not American.
That is un-American and it is so dangerous.
I want you to think about
that.
And yeah, I mean, that's just... It's bad for all of us.
But really, when it comes down to it, Jane, though, there's one last message he has for all of us.
Play that final clip, Calvin, please.
A lot of people have been asking me if there are conditions for my return to the air, and there is one.
Disney has asked me to read the following statement, and I've agreed to do it.
Here we go.
to reactivate your Disney Plus and who to look
at.
Which by the way, the day that this, the night last night, this episode came out, Disney Plus raised their prices.
Oh, that is so funny.
All right, we have news coming up next.
And then when we return, Dr. Kristen Lyrely will be here.
Stay with us.
You are listening to Matt Nair on air coming to you across the Civic Media radio network.
Don't go away.
Good morning.
Welcome.
Welcome to Matt and air on air Jane Matt and air Greg box.
Sweet Cal V coming to you live from our studio at radio park in Racine where you can always join us call or text.
The number is the same 855-752-4842.
You can also leave a comment if you're watching on the live stream on Facebook, YouTube and what used to be Twitter before we get to our guest, our friend and colleague and host.
of our own show on weekends.
So fun.
We want to remind you that our multi-state text win go for the green and gold contest is underway right now.
So grab your phone, open up the Civic Media app that is the only way to enter.
Yes.
You have to have the Civic Media app.
Not going to cost you any money.
No.
It's completely free.
Correct.
So open up your Civic Media app.
Text in the word YARD.
Y-A-R-D.
text in the word yard you're in the running for the daily prize which is 200 bucks in cash and gold jewelry and then you're in the running for the grand prize two club level indoor seats to see Green Bay take on Minnesota
November 23rd at noon.
We have a gas card to get you there and back.
It's worth fifteen hundred and fifty bucks.
It's amazing.
It's a pretty nice package.
I think I'm more like, yeah, packer tickets are great.
Don't get me wrong.
But I will say this.
I love the gift card.
The gas card.
Yeah.
Yeah.
It's pretty nice.
So text in the
word.
Such a nerd.
For so many reasons.
I
love a
value.
Yard is the word.
Y-A-R-D.
And by the way, I wanted to say good morning to Brian from Mosinie, who just texted in morning.
Hi, Brian.
Good morning, Brian.
And that's not the word, by the way.
The word is yard.
Y-A-R-D.
Good luck.
You have until 10 o'clock.
and then your next word coming your way at 11.
She is our guest, Dr. Kristen Lyerle, host of the Dr. Kristen Lyerle Show on weekends.
Good morning, my friend.
Your phone must have been blowing up yesterday.
Yeah, yesterday, the day before.
We were already talking about using Tylenol in pregnancy and whether it was a link to autism, which there is not.
Tylenol in pregnancy does not cause autism.
So, I mean, that's been kind of brewing, but...
Yeah, to hear that big declaration, to hear Trump stumble through the word acetaminophen, to see the reaction, and then to get all these texts from so many friends who are either pregnant or are living with autism in their family.
This has stirred up so much emotion and so many questions and so much conversation.
I think people are really starting to see
it.
Took that clip that you put out on social media explaining directly about the zero findings of a link between Tyler and autism And I put that on a friend's social media post because he was posting about it Of course agreeing with what you're talking about and then someone because there's always someone comes in going well Why can't we just allow doctors to blah blah blah and it came into a whole thing and I just finally said Here is my friend.
She is very smart
This is what she's saying, corroborating another doctor's comment, by the way.
And I said specifically, this topic is not worth her time.
She's got other things to be doing, but now she has to talk about it and talk about something very simple because the president of the United States, not just a dude, got up on the most microphone podium in the country, maybe the world and said these words.
And the thing that really rocked me on in the whole.
The whole clip, Dr. Lyle, is the fact that you have to say now to people it's not your fault.
I
know.
I know.
That is the worst part because people who have family members who are taking care of friends with autism
They're suffering they want an answer and to give them this false hope and to somehow make it seem like it is their fault that they ended up in this situation is just so Beyond shameful and for the president of the United States to say it in the way that he said it and then to go on and say the pregnant women should just suffer with their pain I mean
You don't want them to have birth control.
You don't
want them to have abortions.
You want them to get pregnant, but you don't want them to have the things that they need to be able to navigate their pregnancies safely, including hospitals in rural areas where they can deliver their babies.
I mean, you've got to be kidding me.
That really jumped out at me too, Dr. Lierly, when he said, if you can't tough it out, essentially, if you're not tough enough to deal with your discomfort, then okay, I guess you can take it.
Kind of indicting pregnant women for not being tough enough.
We're not being tough enough.
Even though other Republicans have said it requires no special gifts to give birth.
Right.
Or they think as soon as the baby comes out, like the pregnancy is over.
Everything's not that's normal.
No, it takes a year to recover.
It's just, it's shameful.
You know, it's.
There just aren't that many things that people can use in pregnancy to manage pain.
And this is something that we've used forever, and most people use it at some point in their pregnancy.
So, for him...
to do this and to put pregnant women in a situation where they're always thinking about, should I put this in my body?
Should I eat this?
Should I take this medicine?
Should I treat this condition?
And they often don't want to even treat things like blood pressure problems because they're worried that the medicine that they take is going to cause problems for their baby when, in reality, high blood pressure causes many,
many more
problems.
Yes, so women have to have the information that they need and they need to be encouraged to take the right medications that they need to treat their conditions.
And that is exactly the opposite of what Donald Trump and RFK were saying.
Well, and again, neither of them are doctors.
They're not even medical researchers.
They're two dudes.
Yeah, with a
political agenda.
with an agenda
and the
comments that people have made on that post, which has gotten like 115,000 views.
I mean, it was, it was really popular.
Some of the comments where people were questioning the data or they would say, well, did you see the Harvard study?
Well, did you see all the studies?
You can't just cherry pick one thing or another.
One study does not make a medical movement.
If they can get the name of one study or name a college or a university or something, when they say the, check VAERS, it's like,
Do you know what you're really talking about right now?
Do you understand what you're doing because you're trying to now, because someone else will hear these words and they won't research it.
They'll just say, well, I know Harvard's a smart place and they said study.
So I'll just say Harvard study and they'll know what I'm talking about.
If you're just joining us by the way, Dr. Kristen Lyerle is our guest.
She's the host of Dr. Kristen Lyerle show in Green Bay on weekends.
And we're talking about Donald Trump and Bob Jr's announcements yesterday.
Don't take Tylenol.
We have a compilation
courtesy of Jimmy Kimmel actually
compilation
courtesy of the Kimmel show if you want us here's a basic summation of the entire speech they gave earlier this week from the White House regarding this topic Calvin will you play that please
don't take Tylenol
Don't take it.
With Tylenol, don't take it.
Don't take it.
Don't use Tylenol.
Don't take Tylenol.
Don't take Tylenol.
Fight like hell, not to take
it.
There
it is.
I think you shouldn't take it.
Don't take Tylenol.
The baby goes, gets a shot.
They say, here, take a couple of Tylenol.
I've heard that for years.
Take Tylenol.
Don't take Tylenol.
Don't have your baby take Tylenol.
Don't give Tylenol.
To the baby.
Don't give Tylenol to the baby.
Don't give your baby Tylenol.
Don't take Tylenol.
Don't take Tylenol.
Don't take Tylenol.
Don't take it.
Don't take it.
So That's it.
There's nothing much to say.
Don't take Tylenol.
Just don't take it.
And I just say
to you
don't take Tylenol.
Don't take it.
That sums it up what he just said.
There's nothing left to say.
There was nothing to say to begin with.
Yeah, that's
it.
Grandpa, it's time for bed.
Yeah, exactly.
And the other important piece of this that I think is getting skipped over, so the alternative now that they're suggesting this, Lou Varkin.
Luca Voron.
contains a folic acid from what I understand.
This is being sold by a company that Dr. Oz has staked in.
I don't know about that, but I can tell you that the data is not there for leukovorin.
So this is another whole entire problem.
The data is not there.
We are years away from being able to recommend leukovorin.
And the data at this point only supports that it treats
a particular symptom in a certain subset of people with autism.
But they're selling it like, if you have autism, they're almost selling it like a cure, like a snake oil.
But it's not there, guys.
And the fact that they're making it available to people who have Medicaid, and it's going to be something that you can get your hands on, it's not there.
This is false hope, and it's not fair.
And isn't it?
It's like supplements.
It's a supplement.
St.
John's Wart.
It's the same thing as those kinds of things.
Is that correct?
It's
not.
It is a B vitamin, so it sounds like it's a supplement, but it's actually something that we use in chemotherapy to treat methotrexate overdoses.
I've never used it in my practice because there's some very particular uses, but it's not like a multivitamin that you can just buy over the counter.
You do need a prescription
for it.
But again, I think it's important to note, at least from what I was finding yesterday, Dr. Oz, who is now part of our health system,
is part of a group that owns this,
this drug.
Well, and also speaking of Dr. Oz.
24 hours ago, and this was reported in, I'm looking at you two, Yahoo News.
He walked the statement from President Trump back.
Oh, he did.
And he said, quote, we know that people who take Tylenol for prolonged periods of time during pregnancy seem to have a higher incidence of autism and aggregate.
I don't know what that means.
Show me the study on that one, doc.
So the message is not,
Never take Tylenol.
It's take Tylenol judiciously.
Take it by talking with your doctor.
Make sure that you have an important reason to take it.
Important reason is pain.
You take it because of pain.
Don't take it.
This is the words of a doctor.
Don't take it willy-nilly.
because you think it's so safe, it couldn't possibly cause a problem because those assumptions appear to be erroneous.
That statement just wrapped in tons of research and data, doctor.
I don't even know how we're talking about this.
He's right, we're wrong, let's take some supplements.
But
isn't that the advice that you would give any patient, doctor, liarly, is take it sparingly, right?
Nobody's like, yes, take as many drugs as you can ingest.
No doctor is telling you that, or are they?
And talk to your doctor about it so that you can personalize your care.
But you know what you said, Greg, I think is really important because this is what they did with Luka Voron.
This is what they're doing with these Tylenol studies.
They find something that has a grain of truth to it.
And you know, when you look at all the Tylenol studies out there, there are some studies that show that there is an association between taking Tylenol in pregnancy and autism.
And that is true.
And there are other studies that show that there is not an association.
including a recent study in the Journal of the American Medical Association that was huge.
So the association is a maybe, but association does not mean causation.
It does not mean that Tylenol in pregnancy causes autism.
It's like saying eating ice cream is associated with drowning.
Eating ice cream doesn't make you drown.
You just eat ice cream when it's warmer out, and you also go swimming more often.
So they take that confusing piece of information that a lot of people who aren't in the science world and can't parse out the studies because they don't have the background, and they use it to politicize it and benefit from it.
And it's wrong.
I also think it's important of Vears keeps coming up.
It's V-A-E-R-S Vears.
Ron Johnson cited it yesterday because now he's still pushing the horse medication and talking about all the reports on Vears.
I could go to the Vears website and report that I drank orange juice and I grew a unicorn horn.
I could.
And because there is no check up on those reports to VAERS, correct?
And there shouldn't be.
And there shouldn't be because it is meant to be an open database where people can report whatever their adverse effects are.
And then they take that information and look into it.
I'm going to do that right after the show.
It's getting in the way of my headphones, this unicorn horn.
It's just not very useful.
We're going to continue our conversation with Dr. Kristin Lierly on the other side.

Dr. Kristin Lierly is here, our friend and colleague talking about, of course, Donald Trump yesterday and Bob Jr.
coming out, scaring people about using Tylenol, and we had a text from Sue in Franklin.
And I kind of agree with Sue.
She said, uh, how about releasing the Epstein files?
Right?
Yeah.
And, and this, this is serious and this is important, but we've talked about this again since Trump began his second term.
These are lots of squirrels.
These are lots of things to distract from bigger things that they would like us not to be talking about.
And that goes to, we're going to talk about escalator gates that we're going to do that tomorrow because we just don't have time today.
Have you seen the signs that look like a Tylenol bottle, but it says Epsteinaminophen?
And you know what?
Trump probably couldn't say it as well.
And the problem is that now it's important to delineate, though, when we say distract, because I heard a really great video about this.
When we say distractions, we don't mean that they shouldn't be taken seriously.
And that it's
not important.
Or not.
That is the problem, too, is that these distractions have to get bigger and bigger and
and meaner and more threatening and more dangerous to the public and to our basic liberties and democracy they don't care what they use as a distraction but they still are the fact that we passed a budget that is going to rip health care away from people and we have a we have a file a report that gives the names of a lot of individuals who need to be held accountable because
as we never talk about when we're discussing the obscene vials.
This is about the justice, the closure, and peace of mind of the victims and their families.
The survivors, those who have been through this, that's who we should care about.
I don't care about some celebrity who might be on that list.
If they're on that list, let the law have them.
But yeah, the distractions are going to get bigger and more dangerous.
But they are the things that try to keep our eyes off the ball.
Well, and again, not that these aren't important things because they are.
But I do think the budget's going to we're we're going to run out of funding for the for the government next week.
And so
Republicans have full control of the government.
I mean,
there's no excuse.
And they're blaming the Democrats that they can't get a budget deal done.
Yes, they control all three branches, but it's the Democrats fault.
Yeah,
it's crazy.
Let's talk about your show.
Another thing that we do not give enough attention to is school shootings and this weekend we're going to be talking with a family.
who their three-year-old son goes to Ascension Catholic School in Minneapolis, and they tell their harrowing story of how they live across the street.
She dropped him off at school and heard the gunfire when she got home and literally ran eight months pregnant back to the school to get her son.
He's okay, but these folks are traumatized.
Their community is traumatized, and you get to hear their story on the Dr. Kristen Ligerley show this weekend.
It is, and you're right, we don't talk about it enough.
We have just, I'm, since Sandy Hook, since Sandy Hook happened, and we as a country did nothing about Sandy Hook.
This has just become part of daily life, it seems like.
We don't, you know, we can't talk about any reasonable gun safety measures.
No, no, no, no, no, no, it's, it's- Don't politicize it.
Don't politicize it, yeah.
It's too soon.
So this is just freedom.
This is just freedom.
My 19 year old was a second grader when Sandy Hook happened and every time I think of Sandy Hook and I think of he's an adult and all of these kids that didn't graduate and we still haven't made any headway it's thoughts and prayers and that's another thing that they talked about was thoughts and prayers I never were enough and now they're just insulting and you can see the the dad just the energy coming from him and how he is turning it into activism and he is so determined
to make people, to make our leaders do something.
That's his message, do something.
And it's important too, and I just saw this yesterday and I'll look further into this, but Alex Jones, Alex Jones, that hate monger who he has the right to say the horrible things he says, who tortured the families of those kids for years, got them doxxed, had people showing up at their homes,
threatening the parents of these murdered children.
Now, the Trump administration is going after one of the investigators into that shooting.
Alex Jones still hasn't paid out anything.
Yeah, why?
Why?
This is another, this is a true distraction.
Like, let it go and focus on things that are actually gonna make a difference for people.
If they're not releasing... Like
responsible gun ownership.
Like mental health.
That'd be good.
If they're not releasing the Epstein files, you sure as heck are not gonna get Alex Jones ever paid.
time to anybody for anything.
But if you want to tell your leaders about how you feel about these topics, my vote.wi.gov, go
there, put in your
information, find out your representatives, call them, email them, send them a letter, be respectful, but tell them what real leadership looks like.
And if they're not doing the job you think they are doing, they should be doing.
Guess what?
We have elections next year.
Keep your eyes open for what's going on.
When can we hear your show this weekend?
It's gonna be on WGBW on Sunday morning at nine o'clock on WISS on Saturday and Sunday at three and we're posting online on all the socials So just follow me and I'll give you an easy place to click
Dr. Kristen Lyrely host of the Dr. Kristen Lyrely show.
Thank you so very much my friend really appreciate it Love hanging out with you guys.
We have news coming up next and then we go beyond the cheese with the Wisconsin State Cranberry Association
Don't go away, you're listening to Matt Maier on air on the vast, statewide, country-wide, pick us up around the world and in Minnesota on the Civic Media Radio Network.
morning and welcome, welcome to Matt and air on air, Jane that near Greg Bach and Calvin Butenoff coming to you live from our home here at radio park in Racine.
You can always join us, call or text.
The number is the same at 855-752-4842.
You can also leave a comment if you're watching on the live stream on Facebook, YouTube and what used to be Twitter.
We do have baseball coming up later on today.
The brewers on the left coast against the Padres.
Our broadcast starts at 2.35 as opposed to 11 o'clock at night, which is nice for a left coast game.
You cannot listen on this stream.
You do have to listen on terrestrial radio so you can catch the action on WRC in Richland Center and here in Racina Kenosha on WRJN.
So the crew at the Padres, our broadcast starts today at 2.35.
We haven't gone beyond the cheese for a while.
We're very excited.
decided we have the open cabin.
Let's go for it.
Beyond the cheese.
We go beyond the cheese where we highlight industries in Wisconsin.
Outside of dairy, we are delighted to be joined by the executive director of the Wisconsin State Cranberry Growers Association.
Grant Holly is here.
Good morning, Grant.
Good
morning.
How are you guys doing this
morning?
We are great and we are delighted to have you here.
We love learning about Wisconsin.
And I think because I've been doing this for so long, I am pretty aware of the importance of cranberries in Wisconsin.
Grant, but I don't think people appreciate just how many cranberries we grow and what a big part of the state economy cranberries are.
We grow almost all of them, which is kind of cool.
We account for about 67% of the country's cranberries and over half of the world's cranberries.
So odds are when you're going past cranberries, especially if you're in Wisconsin, they were probably grown here.
And they've been being grown here since Wisconsin was Wisconsin.
So they've been here forever.
So the question I have is because whenever you hear, and I must admit, I think it was only a few years ago when I found out the importance of cranberries to our state economy is when you think of cranberries, you think of a fruit, you don't generally think fruits the best place in Wisconsin because of seasons and weather and all that stuff.
So what makes Wisconsin so great for cranberry growing and our pure dominance in the industry?
pure
dominance.
Yes.
Wisconsin forever.
So
yes, it's so what makes the cranberries so special, especially within Wisconsin?
One is our climate.
And there's the whole climate change piece and everything that's going on out there is actually only strengthening with cranberries right now.
So the fact that they are a fruit that grows so far to the north means they're pretty hardy.
They do have like a
good coat on them.
They have a nice skin.
It's not easily bruised like other fruit and it ships very easy.
But the other pieces is that it tolerates a lot of abuse, which is really kind of nice, which aids in the fact that you don't have to add a lot of things to it for shipping.
You don't have to add things to it to be able to bring it home.
It cooks.
Well, it is packed full of nutrients and then Wisconsin itself because the cranberry originated here.
There are so many special things about cranberries that we're only starting to be able to learn when a crop.
is found in that area.
There are symbiotic relationships.
So if you picked potatoes up from South America and brought them to North America, you're not bringing everything else that goes along with it.
You're not bringing all the little critters in the ground, not bringing all the bacteria, all the fungus.
And so you have to synthetically help.
that crop because it's in a brand new area.
Sort of like a southerner moving up to Wisconsin.
I got to find a big coat.
That
was job
one.
But with cranberries, we still have all of those things that are sort of in play, which helps us to be able to reduce a lot of other pieces that you see inside of agriculture.
We don't till.
And it really just makes a product that is really good for the environment.
And as we're finding out more and more, it's really good for you.
Boy, I sound like a commercial, but that's what I'm...
Well, you should be.
You are.
You are the executive director of Cranberry, so...
Yes.
You're at Cranberry for sure, essentially.
Yeah.
Well, that's really... I'm your connection, no problem
whatsoever.
The first taste is free.
We have enough we have more than enough so that leads me to another question then for me is that you know when we think of cranberries we think of desserts we'll think of juice of course what are things that what are things that we don't associate with cranberry that we may use in our everyday life or or as you said
things we're finding out, we're getting use out of them for that just, you know, they do a good job.
What purpose do cranberry serve besides the usual suspects of what we eat and drink?
So, I mean, easily, I mean, you go through the grocery store and you're right.
You're gonna find the juice, you're gonna find some of the sweet and dried stuff that's out there, but you can really go beyond that.
Again, Southern Boy coming up to the North.
One of the reasons why I wanted my seasons back, so that's why I love Wisconsin.
I'm a very seasonal person.
Do cranberries exactly the same way?
So, I usually have some in the freezer.
Frozen, they freeze up to a year, again, because that nice, thick coating that they have on them.
And I'll use them for smoothies quite a bit.
I literally just throw some orange juice in, throw
some
cranberries in, maybe a few blueberries, banana if you want, a bullet that's sucker up.
And suddenly you got a great snack in the summertime, but beyond that.
So that's also, it's one thing that I love about Wisconsin is it's packed full of carnivores.
Let's talk about where we can also bring it in.
So you brought in, you
This segment is beyond cheese, but we can also talk about it.
It pairs very well with so many of the Wisconsin cheeses.
Wonderful thing to be able to do is go out and get a nice Wisconsin porterhouse.
And then I'm the type that it's, I kind of like it still moving.
So I get it on the grill and I throw a little bit of Wisconsin brie on top of that to where it starts to caramelize.
Drizzle a cranberry relish on top of it.
That sounds really good.
The
only thing better is especially with the holidays that are coming up.
Grab a bird.
I don't care what kind of bird
it
is.
Make it a pheasant.
Grab a turkey.
Duck works really, really well.
If you don't like a pigeon, grab one of those.
I don't care.
I was going to say seagull.
As long as you said seagull and not eagle in case the DNR is watching
But you stuff those birds with those cranberries because stuffing always comes out a little edgy anyway So you put the cranberries inside of the bird inside of the cavity and it really Enhances the flavor if you want to get some like the cinnamon flavored I did some of the jalapeno flavored cranberries for duck and again It it was a religious experience
that sounds
really
the flavors.
And I just don't think that that's something people ever have ever thought of.
It's, you know, it's Thanksgiving.
You have the turkey, and you have, of course, the perfectly natural tin cranberries that come out with the ridges on it.
which is their original form naturally.
But I mean, I grew up.
That's fancy.
I don't know about you.
But but I do think that there's a lot more going back to the natural state of things, which is only better for us.
Yeah.
It really is, and cranberries are so good for you.
We're actually funding within the industry a number of health research pieces and the health research that's starting to be able to come out.
And we've always known that it makes E. Coli nice and slippery.
You say cranberry, somebody else is gonna say UTI.
And they're good, that's gonna be harmonious all the way through.
But this past year, we found out that the same bacteria that causes a lot of stomach ulcers, H. pylori,
It does the same thing with that bacteria.
It makes it nice and slippery, sends it out of the system.
So now Occam's razor comes in to where if it's making these bacteria nice and slippery, what other bacteria
are they
making
nice and
slippery as well?
So is this a flavorful kombucha?
Is this something that actually is really helping with probiotics?
Apologies to the Kanbucha people that are out there, but it's
not mine.
It's terrible.
This tastes
good.
There you
go.
There's my million dollars.
But this is, it's healthcare people can afford.
It really is incredibly healthy.
There are flavonoids that are in there, Harvard's doing a huge research on them.
currently they've been working on the chemical forever.
And then they were actually looking to be able to source the chemical that's really aiding the human condition because their original source was not panning out well and they tested cranberries and we were through the roof.
So now they are...
We're sort of saddled onto that.
They were doing the study anyway, but now that they're actually using cranberries for the source, because it's the most economical and it's the best source that they can use, it's only gonna be good for us, we think.
If you're just joining us, we are going beyond the cheese with Grant Holly.
He is the executive director of the Wisconsin State Cranberry Growers Association.
We own cranberries,
baby.
Yeah,
Wisconsin, we own them.
That's that's the question I want to ask.
And I don't want to get you in trouble because I know you're the executive director of the Association.
So I know you have to walk probably political lines just in your business and industry.
But when we think you brought it up yourself, when people think cranberry juice, they'll also think UTIs.
Is there, you know, cranberry juice is great.
I love it.
But it's also very sugar packed.
I don't think it's the best representation of cranberries.
What do you say to people who just will say like, oh, I'll just drink cranberry juice.
Do you say, well, no, you want to, you want to actually have the cranberry, put it in the bullet, mix it up, do that thing, but you can't rely upon a store-bought sugar pack cranberry juice to do the job of what you're talking about.
You don't think you're absolutely right and this is going to come down to a lot of personal preference.
Sometimes it comes down to willpower because so there is like a cranberry pure that's out there and you take a shot of that a day and it is 18 kinds of amazing.
It is bitter and if you sit back and it's like that's what keeps you from taking it then okay.
Let's at least get the stuff that's inside of you.
I'm a Gen Xer.
I took Flintstones vitamins when I was a kid, so that means I'm going to live to be a thousand.
One of the reasons why kids take Flintstones vitamins is because they had added sugar.
And my grandmother, it's again, go back down to the south.
And when the chickens came out of the barnyard, they were incredibly healthy.
We fed them incredibly great.
yada yada yada, but for me to be able to eat it as a kid, the things that my grandmother did to that chicken did not make it what I would call healthy in another sense.
So whatever you do to it is completely up to you to be able to bring it into your diet, but you are bringing those nutrients into your diet.
Personally, I do take a lot of the fresh cranberries.
I freeze them out.
I like the taste, to be perfectly honest.
I don't need the sugar.
And there are numerous products out there that have literally zero sugar, low sugar,
and
then you got the others that basically add in as much sugar as you're going to find in raisins, naturally.
Grant, do you have to do anything to fresh cranberries because they're really hard, aren't they?
They are, but play with it.
It's the best thing that I can say.
Literally turn it into an experiment, turn it into a family type of event.
So again, when I throw it inside of a bird for stuffing, it's they break down nice and easy.
Sometimes I'll smoosh them up a little bit to try and get more of the juice in.
I'm still sort of messing around with that.
But it's that, that even though they are kind of hard, it now brings in a ton of fiber into your diet at the same time.
So again, you're getting even more of the good stuff that's actually starting to be able to come through.
We're going to continue our conversation with Grant Holly as we go beyond the cheese with the Wisconsin State Cranberry Growers Association.
Cranberry is not just for throwing at your younger siblings anymore.
We'll have more on the other side.
Stay with us.
You are listening to Matt and Air on Air on this Civic Media radio network.
We'll be right back.
Beyond the cheese.
Good morning.
Welcome back to Matt Nair on Air.
Jane Matt Nair, Greg Bach.
Doctors, slide on the board coming to you from our studio at Radio Park in Racine.
Join us, call or text at 855-752-4842.
You can also leave a comment on the live stream.
Good morning, live stream on Facebook, YouTube and what used to be Twitter.
Delighted to be joined by our guest, the executive director of the Wisconsin State Cranberry Association Growers.
Grant Holly is
here, we're talking all things cranberries, and we were talking before the break about all the things that you can do with them, and some of it, Grant, just requires a little experimentation.
So you said you throw them in smoothies, and you throw them in right from the freezer, just in their natural state, and you throw them in the bullet, and away you go.
That's it and I you I've added them of course into muffins I've had them into all kinds of baked goods because they take the heat really really well The the recipes that we get and if you actually go to our website and it's really easy to find instead of giving long addresses I've learned to just tell people just Google Wisconsin and cranberries I guarantee you will find our site right tons of recipes that are on there Yeah, it's gonna be our show notes today.
Yeah
it's you'll find tons of recipes that are on there and they're real it's it's so much fun to be able to just play with them and it's again as I said before it's making a family event it's it helps the kids it's let the it's they're pretty safe to be able to work with
Grab the kids and start coming up with your own recipes for cranberries.
They heat well.
They freeze well.
They're not bullies.
So they don't take over the flavors that other things will actually do.
They really add to the flavor quite a bit.
Cranberries play nice.
There you go.
Jenny on the live stream says toss cranberries in a bit of powdered sugar and bake for 10 to 15 minutes.
This takes the ultra hardness away and leaves a little fun pop when you bite down.
great
snack during the holidays.
And she also goes on to say the cranberry cannolis at the Wisconsin State Fair this year were capital letters outstanding WTG WC.
I don't know what
that means.
Oh, there we
go.
I don't know what the kids speak is.
I don't know.
Like, you know, all you younger
folks.
Who buys a lot of our cranberries grand me.
Wisconsin really does quite a bit.
Wisconsin buys quite a bit and then we send out to a lot of the other states at the same time.
We have handlers inside of Wisconsin to make sure that the process cranberries get out through the country quite a bit.
The fresh cranberries, we have a lot of people come up.
and in from other states just to be able to get the fresh.
A better network to be able to get the fresh out could be really good for the industry and it's something that we are exploring.
Internationally we do send a lot of cranberries to Canada.
We send a lot of cranberries over to Europe.
We send a lot of cranberries over to China and it's
Folks, it's again, whether it's for the health reasons, whether it's because they're so hardy, whether it's because they transport so well.
But there's also this level of people want crops that are incredibly sustainable.
And there's that piece as well.
And really, if you eat cranberries, you can eat it from other earth as well.
Because we don't till.
The farms that we have have been there for 100, 150 years.
We have vines that are older than I am by far.
Thank God, by far.
But it's these things, they wouldn't still be there if we were doing things incorrectly.
One of the best things that we have to be able to keep our weeds down and our bugs down is ice.
The next one is sand.
So really, when those are your big natural pieces, because they were found here and they grow here, the environment has already found a way to be able to help them grow.
So... So they're pretty clean, right?
They're pretty clean.
Are they very...
Labor intensive, because we talk to people who wrote ginseng in Wisconsin and good heavens, you have to sing to that stuff.
Are
cranberries as labor intensive as like ginseng?
Not
as labor intensive as ginseng, those folks.
Boy, they work really hard.
Our folks do as well, but it's because we are able to do it with fewer people.
So a single family can work a medium-sized cranberry marsh almost by themselves.
So we've taken so many of the hybrids.
Before, when harvest would last like maybe a week or two, you needed all kinds of people, all kinds of equipment, but Wisconsin farmers really invested into their state.
So we have these hybrids now.
And we have hybrids that will start producing their berries that are ready to be harvest right around the second week of September.
And then we have hybrids that will delay so that we can go almost all the way to hunting season, forcing the years to marches.
So two or three folks inside of a family can actually handle the harvesting if they're able to stagger it as best that you can.
This year in the weather, of course, Mother Nature likes to throw curveballs.
We are moving a little bit faster this year than we have before.
This warm weather during harvest is kind of unheard of, and we're learning how to deal with it, but one of the pieces that it has done is we have growers that are out there for 14, 16 hours a day bringing in their berries because we need to bring them in now.
We don't want them sitting in the heat humidity for much longer.
So, I mean, they're tough and they handle that cold and they do tolerate the heat, but for these lengths of time, no.
Well,
yeah, farming is constantly having to adjust, right?
It's constantly, yeah, it never ends.
We're going to include links to the Wisconsin State Cranberry Growers Association so you can find recipes and all kinds of wonderful things.
As well as the Cranberry Festival happening in Warrens, Wisconsin this weekend, if you want to have some fun with Cranberries.
It's going to be packed.
People show up.
Grand
Holly is the chief cranberry pusher for the Wisconsin State Cranberry Growers Association.
It's been such a delight, Grant.
It really
has.
Thank you so much.
We really
appreciate it.
You as well.
News is coming up next and then we're going to audio survey.
We're going to talk to our friend and colleague Dave Grant from Max FM in Baraboo.
Stay with us.
You're listening to Matt Nair on air.
Radio Network.
How many times must we take this disgrace?
Another Bears fan throwing insults in
our face.
Good morning.
Welcome.

Dave Grant from Max FM in Baraboo.
Good morning, sir.
How are you?
Good morning, doing great.
How about yourself today, Jane?
We
are great.
We just had a wonderful conversation with the Wisconsin Cranberries Association.
He was so much fun.
But I love this fundraiser that you do.
One of the reasons that I wanted to talk about this is because people in southeastern Wisconsin can actually take part in this fundraiser that's happening in Barabu tomorrow.
Tell us about the fundraiser for Hope House.
Yeah, so certainly people can actually get involved worldwide this year because we're going to be streaming over the civic media app starting at 7 a.m.
tomorrow morning 99 7 max fm and bearable 103 7 fm in reedsburg and we're doing the max fm whole post radio request if on the benefit whole post
for purple thursday and we let our listeners take over the airwaves and you get to pick any song you want to hear minimum donation of five dollars gets that request down the air ten dollars to do a dedication and if you want to bump the song like you just heard
25 bucks gets that song off the air and replaces that song.
I love that
so much.
I have a question though.
So let's, okay.
So Dave, say you request a song and you pay your $5 and it's whatever.
Let's just say it's the bearer still suck.
It's the bearer.
Okay.
We'll use that as an example.
And I say, no, I want to knock it off the air.
So I have to pay $25 to knock it off the thing.
Can you, as Dave Grant, who really wants to hear that song called back and say, I'll give you $100 to play that song?
Is it like
almost
like a counter, like, back and forth?
It is and it's funny you mentioned that great because what happened last year someone on here the Bears still sucks So we put it on there and so a Bears fan didn't like that So then they did the Bears Super Bowl shuffle and this went back and forth for about 20 minutes last year and you know and we all had to
suffer
We did it was like okay
When that came on, I immediately got out my $25 and then put that right down the table.
I said, no, no, we can't have this.
And so it does happen.
There's a lot of requests that come in.
Someone does want to hear.
We had a family going back and forth to last year.
their daughter played Christmas music.
And guess what?
Mom and dad were like, no, no Christmas music in September.
So they put their request and daughter bumps their request off.
They went back and forth for about a half hour.
It was priceless.
And in all benefits, Hope House to sell such on Wisconsin is such a wonderful way to help them out.
Our goal is lofty $5,000 goal.
We can do it.
We
can do it.
We can do it.
Yeah.
We will do it.
Yeah.
Tell us about Hope House because Hope House
is really one of the only shelters that's available for several counties in your area.
Is that accurate?
Yeah, that is correct.
So Hope House is a domestic violence shelter that serves five counties in our area.
It's the only domestic violence shelter in Salk, Columbia, Marquette, Juneau and Adams County.
So it's a wide coverage area that they help support.
And so all this money goes to help Hope House to South Central Wisconsin
They lost a lot of federal funding last year.
And so we're trying to do our best to help supplement that because they have an incredible mission and we want to help them.
And last year, we had a goal of $3,500 and we met it at the very last minute.
After some of my co-workers talked me into getting purple fingernails if we hit that goal.
You did.
And we did hit the goal and up with purple fingernails.
And this year, if we hit $5,000 myself,
And our co-host Emily is going to dye her hair purple.
We even got the new intern who's been here three days.
He's going to dye his hair purple if we hit the $5,000 goal.
He's got blonde hair right now and he's going to go purple if we hit this goal.
Welcome to Radio Kid.
Yup.
Again, the one of the reasons why I wanted to have you on Dave is because we can help you reach that goal.
Five bucks at a time, 10 bucks at a time, 25 bucks at a time.
You can listen tomorrow and take part in this.
And all you have to do is download the Civic Media app and then just click on Max FM.
And you can listen to the stream starting at seven o'clock in the morning, and you can make your requests.
You can counter bid to knock somebody off the air, which I just love so much.
And we made it real easy.
We're going to have the link right on the 997 Max FM Facebook page.
It'll be up there by seven o'clock at the latest.
You can also go to our website, max.fm.
You can click on the community calendar.
We already have the link out there.
So if you click on the whole pause,
Request link you'll get that right now.
Somebody already put a request in for tomorrow morning.
Oh, what's that?
Can you tell us what it is?
You know, I can tell you what it is because It's gonna be interesting because I know the person that made the request as well So that's kind of the neat part about this as well.
And so we're gonna hear Prince seven and then we're also gonna hear a tootsie roll by the 69 boys and so
I know who made that request already, but you're going to have to listen tomorrow to find out.
It was
Jane Matten there.
That would not be my request.
I have a different request
because I'm going to call in tomorrow.
And I also just want to let everyone know that if you want to also, you can go to civicmedia.us and find the links.
You can go to Maxx Max FM's website.
That not only will the website for their station be in the show notes, but the website to the direct.
event will be there as well.
So you can just, you can find it all by going to civicmedia.us slash shows, find in our show notes.
You can find it and please give request songs, knock songs off.
I love this.
I really love this event.
It's a, it's a great, great fundraiser.
I heard you guys do it last year and I just laughed my head off.
And it is such, it is for such a good cause, especially when she mentioned Dave.
that Hope House, which is this domestic violence shelter that serves five different counties, lost a whole bunch of federal funding.
And we need these facilities for people who are trapped in horrible situations.
So I really hope that you can take part tomorrow via the Civic Media app.
That's how you can listen if you don't live in the Baraboo area.
If you're just joining us, Dave Grant is our guest, our colleague at Max FM Morning Show host.
They have their big Hope House fundraiser starting tomorrow morning at seven o'clock.
What time does it end, Dave?
Well, it's supposed to end about four o'clock, but if it's anything like the past couple of years, we went until 5.30 last year.
We'll keep taking the request until they stop coming in.
We really want to hit that goal.
So we'll play those requests as long as it takes.
If I have to be here till eight o'clock at night, I'll keep on going.
There's nothing saying that we have to stop, except if I lose my voice.
That was a
As we got towards the end of the day last year, I know myself and my co-host Maddie was starting to lose her voice.
That's a long
day, man.
Put the intern on the air.
That's what the plan is.
Yes, he's excited.
And so his first time is seeing all of this.
I know my morning show co-host will be in here.
Aaron Crennell is going to pop in for a little while as well.
So we'll have Aaron here.
And then my
Co-host from Sunday nights is actually gonna pop in here as well and she's filled in on the morning show with us my lovely wife Works here part-time and she's agreed to take the day off her regular job to hop in and co-host tomorrow morning as well with us to support this cause
It's really a group effort.
It really is and together we can make a big difference We can make a big help five bucks at a time if I I'm gonna request this tomorrow, but I
I thought we'd give you a little preview now, Calvin.
Can we play that song that I asked you to download, please?
You never heard so.
And me
and Tim.
Yeah, it's very interesting right now what's happening because.
This is once again another example of why you should watch the live stream.
This song is about being trapped in a mind, correct?
It is.
Yeah, and Jane is dancing like she is at her own wedding and it's her song.
She's so excited and I don't understand what's happening at the
moment.
I was 11.
It came out in 1971.
We
used to sing
along and I had no idea what they were talking
about.
None whatsoever.
Timothy.
I
understand the context because you know when I was a young kid I was like did you happen to see the most beautiful girl in the world?
You're seven, but tell her I'm sorry It's
just one of those things and I've never forgotten that song and when I finally realized they were singing about cannibalism
pop song and you can hear it yourself for five dollars by listening to max afam tomorrow or
you can knock it off the air
yeah it's true you can knock it off the air you can yeah you could well here's the interesting part we've even had polka songs out here during this i mean there's a wide variety we've had country songs on here i mean and the funny part is it was back when i was here part time we know some of the songs that would get our boss going that he wouldn't want to hear so we'd make sure he put those requests in for him then he would have to bump it off here as well
friendly internal that's great
that's great that's fantastic I love that I love that are there I mean there are you talked about the bear songs you talked about you know people bumping and the stories of the families are there typical songs that just always almost it's almost like oh we got that song we know it's going to get bumped is it there's always a competition we can rely upon
Oh yeah, for sure.
If we have same old legs sign, that song's gonna get bumped by somebody.
That song, every year, gets requested.
Every year, that song gets bumped.
It's a guarantee if that comes on, somebody's gonna bump that song.
Then let me put this challenge out to you, O'Giver of Gifts and Hater of Music, if you don't like these songs.
Call the station.
If they're like, so like an old leg sign, that's one that's always gonna get requested.
You make the promise that every time it's requested, you bump it with the donation.
So it's not just 25 bucks.
If you have the means, you say every time it's requested, it gets bumped, you then will give more and more and more.
And that way, you A, give to Hope House, which is important, and B, get to never hear the songs you don't like, because that's democracy and radio.
Yes, it is.
And that's a part, it's so much fun with this, right?
You get to hear a wide variety of songs, some of these songs you never hear.
Right.
At some point, we're going to hear the Radio Shack theme song as well.
That's the other neat part of this.
If you've never heard.
Yeah, you gotta tune in.
Okay.
All
right.
Radio Shack theme song.
Who
knew there was one?
It's actually about being trapped in a mine.
And Radio Shack comes to save you.
And you eat the radios.
Terry Ryan texting and Timothy, you, I know I'm sorry.
I stuck with me.
I was 11.
I
mean, it's very funny.
You're like, you've never heard this song.
I'm like, no, I'm pretty sure they took it off the radio when they read the lyrics.
It was slightly before my time, but I remember the song as well.
And I didn't know what it was about either at that age because it was very young.
And I'm like, hey, this is a pretty great song.
And then you find out what it's about.
You're like, oh, wait a minute.
Did they do it?
I didn't know they did that thing.
Anyway, your opportunity to help out and help out Hope House tomorrow and have a whole bunch of fun.

Calvin found this one from CNN.
Barbie Nadow with the byline and the headline reads, Italian tourist town imposes attacks on visiting dogs.
Starting next year, owners of dogs visiting the northern Italian city of Bolzano.
Will be it should be Bauzano will be hounded Oh God, it's in the article.
I don't care for a daily tax of 100 and hat one A dollar fifty euros just under two bucks.
Okay as a clamp down on dogs in the pristine destination Local owners are being asked to pay an annual tax of a hundred euros a dog
That's how they get you.
Well, this is meant to offset the cost of street cleaning and to fund new parks.
Dog parks remains unclear whether rumors that dogs will be barred from regular city parks.
They don't know if that's going to happen or not.
Yeah.
But apparently people aren't picking up after their pets.
And that's where my problem lie.
You know what?
If you want to raise some funds, I get that.
Fees are a thing that happens.
Look, fine.
I just blame this on irresponsible pet parents.
Without a doubt.
You're the ones who started
this.
Absolutely.
Bring a
baggie.
Ruin it for the rest
of us.
Yeah.
Now I gotta pay a buck fifty.
I don't even know what that is in real money.
So, yeah.
After the resounding and costly failure, instead of focusing on civic education and citizen awareness, we're again choosing this way out, taxing animals and their owners.
The measure not only penalizes families and tourists who travel with dogs, but it is turning animals into taxpayers.
Not everybody's happy about this.
But again, come on, fellow dog owners.
It's not difficult to do.
It's not hard to pick up poop.
No, it's not.
I mean, I actually knocked on a stranger's door once.
when Barkley was still alive and I was dog sitting for some friends and I had what I thought were enough bags and of course one of them surprised me and so I went up to the door and I knocked on the door and I said I'm mortified to ask you this but do you have a plastic bag so I can pick up the gift Stella left on your yard and she was so gracious about it but it's like
I would rather do that than
leave
it
there.
That happened me once when I was walking Maybell.
I thought I had bags in my pocket and I didn't.
She did her business.
So I looked around and found a dirty wet bag on the ground.
You didn't.
Yep.
And I was like, this is my punishment for not really checking, thinking I already had them, but I did not.
So it was taken care of, but this is not difficult.
This is day one learning.
You learn this before you own a dog.
It's
part of being a pet owner.
Yeah.
So just pick it up.
All right.
Thank you.
That concludes today's edition of
This Shouldn't Be
a Thing.
Thank you Greg and Calvin and all of our engineers and everyone at Civic Media without you nothing works.
