Darin S. Sikkila, 63, Nisula

Darin S. Sikkila, age 63 of Nisula, MI passed away Friday, May 22, 2026 at Baraga County
Memorial Hospital, L’Anse, MI. He was born in L’Anse on April 5, 1963 the son of the late
Arvid and Jacqueline (Monette) Sikkila. Darin graduated from L’Anse High School in 1981. He
then attended Northern Michigan University for Auto Mechanics. Darin had sailed the Great
Lakes on the iron ore freighters until his retirement. He married the former Carrie Budreau on
July 6, 1996 at Mission United Lutheran Church in Pelkie. Darin enjoyed tinkering on cars,
fishing, sitting by a good bonfire, and being outdoors. He was an avid Maritime and Military
history enthusiast.
Darin is survived by his loving wife Carrie Sikkila of Nisula, bonus daughter Amber Heikkinen
of Nisula, sons Aaron Sikkila of Nisula, and Austin Sikkila of La Crosse, WI, grandson Kristian
Swartz of Nisula, brother Kevin (Jill Peterman) Sikkila of Duluth, mother-in-law Joyce Budreau
of Nisula, sisters-in-law Linda Seppanen of Nisula, Susan (Scott) Wagner of Atlantic Mine, MI,
and Debi (Keith) Byce of Bay City, MI, brothers-in-law Larry Budrea of Baraga, and Dan
Seppanen of Nisula. Numerous other beloved family members as survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his mother-in-law Virginia Budreau, father-in-law
Bruce Budreau, and sister-in-law Jackie Budreau.
Funeral services for Darin will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 6, 2026 at Alston Apostolic
Lutheran Church, Alston with Pastor Ed Hulkonen officiating. The family will greet friends at
church on Saturday from 12 p.m. until the time of the funeral service.
Interment will take place in the L’Anse Evergreen Cemetery.
