Vernon “Bert” Palacheck, age 99, of Park Falls, passed away on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, in Park Falls. Bert was born on July 16, 1926, in Eisenstein; the son of John Sr. and Anna (Wallner) Palecek.

His early life and schooling were in Park Falls. After high school, Bert enlisted in the Navy just after the end of WWII where he witnessed the atomic bomb test on Bikini Beach. He served in the Navy from 1945-1947. On February 14, 1946, he married Christine Sales in Park Falls. Bert worked for the Flambeau Papers Mill for 42 years and retired in 1988. Bert loved people and was often heard saying “no one is invited, but everyone is welcome.”

He is survived by 6 children: Dan “Butch” (Lyn) of Forest Lake, MN, Don (Carol) of Oldsmar, FL, Dave of Park Falls, Del (Nancy) of Forest Lake, MN, Christine “Dolly” (Randy) Rand of Lino Lakes, MN, and Joe of Forest Lake, MN. 16 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren with 2 additions due in August, and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife. Christine, his parents, his grandson Clark, his infant great-grandson Andrew, daughters-in-law Pat and Elise, brothers George, Edmund, Louie, John Jr, Frank, August, Sylvester and Lloyd, sisters Rose Schmidt and Anne Bablick.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00am on Tuesday May 5, 2026, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Park Falls. Fr. Shaji Pazhukkathara will officiate, assisted by Deacon Chet Ball.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday May 5, 2026, from 10:00am until the hour of the service, at the church.

A graveside service will be held at 10:00am on July 16, 2026 at Nola Cemetery in Park Falls, with military honors under the auspices of the Park Falls American Legion Post 182.  A celebration of life/birthday memorial will follow.

The family would like to thank the staff at Park Manor Nursing Home for their compassion and care.
