The third Thursday in March is known as Oranges & Lemons Day but let it be known: not all oranges are created equal.

Clementines are cute and navel oranges are easy to find. But have you ever tried a CARA CARA ORANGE?

Oh. My. Gawwwwwd. They are sooooooo good!

From the outside they look like a regular, normal orange. They’re even similar in size to medium navel oranges. On the inside, they resemble a Ruby Red Grapefruit. And they’re seedless.

Their taste? Life changing!

They’re so good, in fact, that I have found myself kind of snubbing the regular oranges in the grocery store because “well, these aren’t Cara Caras.”

Where did they come from?
Cara Cara oranges are believed to be a hybrid of the Brazilian Bahia orange and the Washington navel orange.

They’re low acidity which is nice and described by many to have hints of other berries like raspberry, blackberry, and cranberry. I never really can pinpoint that flavor profile when I eat them. I just know when I eat one, I want to devour the entire bag. That’s how good they are.

So next time you’re buying some oranges, give the Cara Cara Orange a try. Laura McKenna approved!
