The family of a man killed in a crash in West Milwaukee is speaking out, demanding answers after the driver involved was arrested following the incident.

Police say 66-year-old Calvin Young Jr. was struck and killed Monday evening, March 9, near the intersection of South 54th Street and West National Avenue. Officers with the West Milwaukee Police Department responded around 7:30 p.m. to reports of a vehicle hitting a pedestrian. Despite lifesaving efforts at the scene, Young died from his injuries.

Investigators say Young was crossing the street in a crosswalk when the crash happened. The driver a 30-year-old Milwaukee woman was taken into custody following the incident.

Authorities also revealed that six children were inside the vehicle at the time of the crash.

Potential charges are now being reviewed by the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office.

Young’s family described him as a joyful and outgoing person who brought laughter wherever he went. Loved ones say he was known as “the life of the party” and someone who cared deeply about his family and community.

In the days since the crash, relatives say they are struggling to understand how the tragedy happened. They are calling for transparency as the investigation continues and want to know more about the circumstances leading up to the crash and the driver’s arrest.

Police have not yet released additional details about what may have led to the collision, and the investigation remains ongoing.

Authorities are asking anyone who witnessed the crash or has information to contact local law enforcement.
