The Chippewa Falls Planning Commission granted their approval of the conditional use permit for construction of the Aspirus Health Hospital.

According to a press release from Aspirus Health, the commission’s permit approval on Monday is a major milestone for the project. Now that they’ve received the permit approval, they will turn their attention towards finalizing the land purchase agreement and seeking developer agreement approval from the Chippewa Falls City Council.

In November, the organization announced they had chosen a 22.1 acre site along Chippewa Crossing Boulevard for the new hospital. The proposed plan would see a one story building at 54,181 square feet constructed on the site. The patient care area would cover more than half of that space, with administrative space, support services, and the clinics program occupying the rest.

The organization also plans to have 38 full time employees and 17 part time employees with 12 hospital beds, 18 exam rooms, two procedure rooms, and a lab area.

Once Aspirus Health finalizes their acquisition of the property and receives all the needed approvals, officials expect the facility to be fully operational in as little as 18 months from the start of construction.

Organization officials began making plans for the new hospital following the closure of the HSHS facilities in the region. In addition to the plans for the Aspirus Health facility, the Chippewa Valley Health Cooperative is also planning a new independent community hospital in Lake Hallie and exploring plans to purchase and reopen the St. Joseph’s Hospital property.
