New Chippewa Falls Hospital Details Shared with City Officials

Chippewa Falls officials have new details about the planned Aspirus Health Hospital as they consider the permit needed to begin construction.

Plans for the new hospital were announced in November as local lawmakers and healthcare organizations sought to address the gaps in care left behind by the HSHS closures in March. The organization chose a 22.1 acre site along Chippewa Crossing Boulevard east of the city’s fire station.

When Aspirus Health announced the chosen location for the site, they noted it would need a conditional use permit to circumvent the current zoning of the property. In December, the Chippewa Falls City Council announced it would consider that permit.

According to a Leader Telegram report, paperwork recently filed with the plan commission offers more insight into the details of the facility. According to those documents, the hospital will be a one story building at 54,181 square feet. The hospital patient care area will cover more than half of that, with administrative space, support services, and the clinics program covering the rest.

The documents also note the facility plans to have 38 full time employees and 17 part time employees. There will be 12 hospital beds, 18 exam rooms, two procedure rooms, and a lab area. The parking area will accommodate 135 vehicles and there will be a helipad at the site.

The Plan Commission is scheduled to review the conditional use permit in a public hearing on February 10th. The Chippewa Falls City Council will consider the permit at its Tuesday meeting.

Aspirus Health officials say once they receive the needed approvals, construction could begin in the coming months. They expect the hospital to be fully operational in as little as 18 months following the start of construction.
