WASHINGTON, D.C. (Civic Media) – With a government shutdown deadline fast approaching, Congressman Bryan Steil wants to end the cycle of budget battles once and for all.

The Wisconsin Republican is backing the Eliminate Government Shutdowns Act, a bill introduced in the House alongside a Senate version by Senator Ron Johnson. The bill would automatically fund federal agencies through a two-week continuing resolution, renewing every 14 days until Congress passes a full budget. The approach aims to stop the stop-and-start funding fights and keep government services running smoothly.

“Like most Americans, I’m tired of arbitrary deadlines and political fights shutting down the federal government,” Steil said. “Decades of dysfunction and continued brinkmanship in D.C. don’t help deliver the policy solutions Wisconsin families need.”

Steil warned that shutdowns not only disrupt government services but also erode public trust and take lawmakers’ attention away from urgent issues.

Without new appropriations or a continuing resolution, federal funding is set to expire on Sept. 30, opening the door to a shutdown.
