U.S. Rep. Tom Tiffany launches campaign for Governor in Wausau

WAUSAU, Wis. — The setting sun filtered through barn slats as U.S. Rep. Tom Tiffany stood before supporters and a large American flag Wednesday evening to launch his campaign for Wisconsin governor at the Peterson Barn in Wausau.

The official launch came a day after the Congressman first announced his campaign on the Dan O’Donnell show.

Tiffany, who currently represents Wisconsin’s 7th Congressional District, pledged to serve out his term in Congress. But he says he’s ready for a new chapter.

“I have a record of results. I have the common sense values that we all share,” he told the crowd of supporters. “And I will give you the leadership you deserve.”

In his speech, Tiffany pointed his upbringing on a dairy farm on western Wisconsin dairy farm, saying it taught him the value of hard work and budgeting. 

“You pick up the shovel, you pick up the pitchfork, and you go to work. That’s the way it is,” he said.

He took aim at Gov. Tony Evers and Democratic leadership, comparing their track record as similar to the ending of the Doyle Administration when he was first running as a state lawmaker.

Now, Tiffany says, “Farms are failing. Factories are closing. Our educational system has now fallen behind Mississippi… that’s not the Wisconsin that we know.”

Tiffany laid out key priorities, including cutting taxes, expanding school choice, supporting law enforcement, and restoring what he calls “Wisconsin values.”

He also promised to freeze property taxes and eliminate what he called Evers’ “400-year tax increase.” 

“It’s dead — day one,” Tiffany said.

Tiffany faces Washington County Executive Josh Schoemann and Milwaukee manufacturing CEO Bill Berrien in the Republican primary.

Democratic candidates include Lt. Gov. Sara Rodriguez, Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley, state Sen. Kelda Roys, and state Rep. Francesca Hong.
