During the month of August the Ocooch Mountain Humane Society is participating in Clear the Shelters, an event hosted by NBC to help get shelter pets into loving homes.
The chip sealing of several streets will begin in Richland Center as early as Friday, August 29. Work will pause over the weekend and resume Tuesday and Wednesday, September 2 & 3, weather permitting. Affected Streets include North Cedar, North Chestnut, North Church, North Oak, North Walnut, South Sheldon, and Second through Ninth Streets. Crews will be working in multiple areas, and intermittent parking restrictions and traffic delays should be expected.
Those exhibiting at the Richland County Fair can pick up fair tags at the Richland County Extension Office Monday through Friday from 8:30a to 4:30p. The extension office is located at the former Richland Campus.
VFW Auxiliary 2267 will host a bake sale fundraiser at Richland County Bank Friday, August, 29, from 9:00a until gone.
The 44th Annual Little Britches Showmanship will be held at the Richland County Fair on Sunday, September 7, at 11:00a in the Show Barn. Little Britches is open to all youth with a minimum age of three up to a maximum age of eight or second grade as of January 1, 2025, who would not be eligible for regular 4-H membership, may participate.
The animals must be born on or after March 1, 2025 and includes dairy and livestock animals such as a dairy calf, goat, lamb, rabbits, and poultry. All animals must be on a lead line. Animals being brought onto the fairgrounds must have a Vet-Check-In-Sheet which can be obtained from the Richland County Fair Office by calling 608-647-6859, or the Extension Office at 608-647-6148. All animals shown in the Little Britches Show must comply with the animal health requirements and identification for its respective species listed in the Richland County Fair premium book. A copy of the requirements can be obtained from the Richland County Extension Office. Participants must sign up by calling the Extension Richland County Office at 608-647-6148 by Friday, August 29.
Saturday, August 30
The Brewer Public Library will be closed Saturday, August 30, and Monday, September 1, for Labor Day.
Friends of River Valley Area Community Gardens have rescheduled its 10th Anniversary Open House to Saturday night, August 30, from 6:0p0 to 7:30p. The new equipment shed will be open for touring and
desserts will be served.
