Ripon City Administrator Adam Sonntag gave the Common Council an update last night on the remediation at 112 Watson Street. Fond du Lac County has held off taking over ownership of the tax delinquent property which has long been in a state of disrepair.

The city issued a repair order and hired 920 Restoration to remove black mold from the property. The cost of remediation will be assessed to the property owner. Sonntag told the Council the black mold removed from the building filled 9 to 10 dumpsters.

The cost of $22,320 was higher than the original estimate due to the extensive mold discovered inside the walls during demolition. The initial bid for the project was $16,300. The city notified Fond du Lac County of the completed work and requested a timeline for the foreclosure process. The building is now free of mold and the interior demolition was necessary. The roof is still an issue. Sonntag says the County is recommending a 90 day hold on the property to discuss the property with the city. He says they suggested the County move quicker because the property has been remediated.
