WISCONSIN (CIVIC MEDIA) – Wisconsin ranks in the bottom 10 states for the amount of federal funding each resident receives, according to a new report.

The Wisconsin Tax Payer document, based on 2022 federal tax data, found that Wisconsin ranked 41st in the country for the amount of federal funding received per resident. In total, the state received an average of a little less than $15,000 of federal funding per person.

While Wisconsin ranks towards the bottom of that list, experts are still warning that further federal budget cuts could have a significant impact on the state. A new study shows just how much money you need to live comfortably in Wisconsin. It’s important to define what “living comfortably” means: according to SmartAsset, living comfortably means paying your bills, having adequate housing, and being able to afford hobbies, the occasional vacation, and a rare emergency.

In Wisconsin, a single person needs to make $87,000. For a family of four, it’s about $225,000. That makes Wisconsin one of the cheaper states to live in, coming in at 37th.
