WISCONSIN RAPIDS, Wis (WFHR/WIRI) – The Lester Public Library of Rome offers more than just books. In a Midday Magazine interview Nicole Menzel, Library Director, shares about what’s being offered at this community hub.

Books Come in Many Forms

Do you remember when you had to use the card catalogue to find a book at the library? For some the move to the online catalogue has been a challenging one. The staff at the Lester Public Library of Rome, are glad to help you find the book you’re looking for, even if it’s not on paper. The book offerings from the library go beyond print. With today’s tech, you can check out audiobooks and ebooks or get the Libby app to check out books as well. Not sure how to download it, they’re there to help. “Half of what we do is tech stuff at the library. From setting up new phones to downloading apps, as long as we know how to do it, we’ll help you with it,” Menzel shares.

Beyond the Books

The library offers more than just books in many different forms. There are ongoing and special events being offered by the library. Every Friday in the morning you can join the Friends of the Library for a social hour. Fridays at 11 am you can attend Yoga @ the library. Classes started October 11th and will continue until the Farmer’s Market opens for the 2025 season (likely in May). A $5 donation is appreciated but not required to participate.

Events and Projects

There are some fun events coming up at the Lester Public Library. If you like Legos, then come out the week of Mon, Jan 27 – Sat, Feb 1 2025. They will celebrate National Lego day with this week-long drop in event. For those looking to build skill in creating cards, posters and more there will be a Graphic Design for All:Canva Tutorial event on January 24.

Inspired by a suggestion from a library patron, a committee is being gathered to plan and create a Secret Book Forest. This will be a place to walk a path and interact with different books throughout, similar to the Secret Book Garden in the town of Sheboygan.

With all this, the Lester Public Library is the place to go for fun and help.
