WISCONSIN (Civic Media) – Democrat Jodi Habush Sinykin has been called the winner of the race for the 8th Senate District in Wisconsin.

The Associated Press made the call Wednesday.

Neither party was favored in this district going into the election, according to CNalysis. The district was considered a toss-up with a projected margin of 1 point for Democrats.

Habush Sinykin is an attorney who has specialized in environmental law, particularly on water issues (she was part of the group that sued over Foxconn’s planned diversion of Great Lakes water). She and her husband own a textile manufacturing company based in Janesville, and she is also the daughter of Bob Habush of Habush, Habush & Rottier fame.

She defeated incumbent Republican Sen. Duey Stroebel, who currently represents the Senate’s 20th District. The 8th Senate District is currently held by Dan Knodl, who won his Assembly race rather than challenge Stroebel in the state Senate.

Stroebel has served in the State Senate for nearly a decade, following four years in the Assembly from 2011 to 2015. He has been a member of the Joint Committee on Finance since 2019, currently serving as Vice Chair. He’s also the Chair of the Committee on Government Relations.

The 8th Senate District covers parts of Washington, Ozaukee, Milwaukee, and Waukesha counties in southeastern Wisconsin. The 22nd, 23rd, and 24th Assembly Districts are in the 8th Senate District.
