Trump is safe and was not hurt, according to the Secret Service, his campaign, and the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office.
By Jimmie KaskaWEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (Civic Media) – Former President and current Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump was the target of an assassination attempt on Sunday.
The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office said during a press conference that a person of interest was in custody.
According to Sheriff Ric Bradshaw, Secret Service agents fired at a man who had a rifle about 400 to 500 yards away from Trump at his golf club in West Palm Beach, Fla. Two backpacks and a camera were found near where the man was spotted hiding in shrubbery. The man dropped the gun and fled, and was taken into custody in an adjacent county.
Trump was not hurt in the incident, according to Sheriff Bradshaw, Trump’s campaign, and the Secret Service.
In an email, Trump told supporters he was “safe and well.” Republican Vice Presidential candidate J.D. Vance said that Trump was “in good spirits” in a post on X Sunday.
Trump survived an assassination attempt about two months ago in Pennsylvania, when a bullet grazed his ear.
Sunday’s incident happened just before 2 p.m. Eastern, according to the Secret Service.
