RACINE, Wis (WRJN) – The final wishes of a long time advocate for Racine are getting set into motion.  Bob Oertel spent a lifetime taking up causes in Racine and helped lead the effort for the creation of the Kids Cove Playground over 20 years ago.  He passed away recently at the age of 81 and the Friends of Kids Cove organization report that he had wanted to touch up the paint on the lakefront play area.  So that’s happening Saturday, May 18th.  Those looking to play that day will have to wait.  Those looking to help can show up at 9am and assist with Bob’s request.

In a statement, the Friends of Kids Cove are asking for assistance in the effort.

On May 18th, from 9am to 1pm, we’re calling on volunteers to help us freshen up the benches and other items that need a little TLC.

Whether you can spare an hour or more, your help in painting a bench or other objects would be greatly appreciated. Paint will be provided, but if you have any paintbrushes, please bring them along!

Attention students! If you need volunteer service hours, this is a fantastic opportunity to give back to your community while earning those valuable hours.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to call Dorothy Sack at 262-554-5419 or Ken Sack at 262-488-3807.

Thank you in advance for your support and dedication to keeping Kids Cove Playground a vibrant and welcoming space for our community!

Hundreds of volunteers joined forces 22 years ago to construct the cherished playground, getting work done in a week.
