Greenfield / West Allis, Wis (WAUK) – The cities of Greenfield and West Allis have announced the creation of the Southwest Suburban Health Department, which merges the existing health departments of both cities. The partnership, according to officials, aims to improve public health services in both communities by establishing a joint board of health and pooling resources.

The Southwest Suburban Health Department will be funded by both cities as well as grant funding provided by the Wisconsin Department of Health and Social Services. A statement says the merger is expected to lead to a more streamlined and focused delivery of health services.

By merging the health departments, leaders hope the Southwest Suburban Health Department will increase efficiency, improve communication, and provide better services to those in Greenfield and West Allis. Both Greenfield Mayor Michael Neitzke and West Allis Mayor Dan Devine expressed optimism about the merger and its potential to better serve the communities.

The Southwest Suburban Health Department will operate for a term of five years, with a joint board of health representing both communities.
