High School Sports return. Packers to end preseason. College Football returns. Brewers keep winning.
High school sports kick off this week as the Packers close in on preseason game. College football is back and Brewers can’t be stopped.
High School Football returns
WISCONSIN RAPIDS, Wis. (WFHR, WIRI) – The first week of high school football games happen this week as all four local squads will be in action Thursday, Aug. 21, and Friday, Aug.22.
Wisconsin Rapids and Port Edwards will be in action on Thursday, while Assumption and Nekoosa play on Friday.
Rapids will play at River Falls, while Port takes on Siren at Woodtrust Bank Field at South Wood County Stadium in Wisconsin Rapids.
Assumption hosts Markesan, while Poynette plays in Nekoosa.
All games will begin at 7 p.m. with the Port Edwards and Assumption games being heard on 105.5FM WIRI at 7 p.m. with pregame coverage beginning at 6:50 p.m. with Randy Pahl and Mike Kommer on the call.
Packers prep for final preseason game
After a last-second victory in its second preseason game, the Green Bay Packers will close out the regular season with a home against the Seattle Seahawks at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 23.
Green Bay and Seattle last played in 2024 when Green Bay defeated the Seahawks 30-13 at Lumen Field.
The Packers won their second preseason game at Indianapolis by a score of 23-19, while Seattle knocked off Kansas City 33-16.
College Football season begins
The College Football season begins on Saturday, Aug. 23. Iowa State and Kansas State renew their rivalry dubbed “Farmageddon” in a contest played in Dublin, Ireland.
The Wisconsin Badgers will open the season on Thursday, Aug. 28 when they host Miami (OH) at Camp Randall Stadium at 8 p.m.
Brewers set new win mark
It has been a historic year for the Milwaukee Brewers as they host the best record in Major League Baseball.
On Saturday, Aug. 14, the Brewers set a new team record with 14 consecutive victories. They defeated the Cincinnati Reds by a 6-5 margin in extra innings.
The previous record was 13 victories, which was set in 1987.
