MADISON, Wis. (WMDX) – The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources has issued an air quality advisory for unhealthy levels of particulate matter in the air across most of the state Wednesday.

The alert is valid through noon Thursday and includes all of northwestern and central Wisconsin, although the DNR and National Weather Service said smoke from wildfires in Canada is pushing south and east, meaning additional advisories may be issued for other parts of Wisconsin as it progresses.

According to the DNR, particulate matter in the smoke is affecting the air quality throughout the Upper Midwest, which places the air quality index in the orange, or unhealthy for sensitive groups, level. This means people with certain medical conditions, children, older adults and people who are active outdoors should limit their outdoor activities.

You can learn more about air quality and how the DNR tracks it on the DNR’s website.
