The Riddle of Wisconsin
What is up with Wisconsin? The state that brought us the labor union and five day work week, the first state to ratify the 19th Amendment, the state once known as the "laboratory of democracy," has also brought us Joseph McCarthy and Scott Walker, and has become one of the most closely divided battleground states in the country. How did we get here, and how does what has happened here in this state reflect larger trends in American politics--a harbinger of what is to come, or how we can fix it?

After Trygve Olson has to duck out, Todd keeps the discussion rolling on last night’s presidential debate. At one point in the debate, JD Vance spoke inaccurately about the legal Haitian migrants in Springfield, Ohio, and the moderators paused to provide some facts. Vance, upset at the fact check, then continued to speak for so long out of turn that both his and Walz’s microphones were muted. After the debate, Trump supporters have been upset online about this fact check, since the terms of the debate did not include live fact checking. What’s Worse: that JD Vance started these dehumanizing lies about Haitian immigrants, or that MAGA as a whole lose their minds anytime somebody fact checks them? Todd takes your calls.
We wrap up today’s show with some calls discussing the tragic health implications of abortion bans for both potential mothers and babies.

Wisconsin State Legislature Update with Sen. Kelda Roys (Hour 1)
Happy Hump Day! We are joined by our normal Wednesday guests, Pat Kreitlow of UpNorthNews Radio and Trygve Olson of The Lincoln Project to discuss last night’s Vice Presidential debate. The debate was surprisingly cordial, but JD Vance did not defy expectations with his non-answers on difficult topics like abortion and election denialism.
At the bottom of the hour, State Senator Kelda Roys returns to the show to update us on what she’s been up to around the state. With WI Republicans electing to gavel out of the legislative session early, Sen. Roys has had extra free time. She has been taking advantage of that time to campaign for candidates who support funding for education and childcare in our state.
