Civic Media Spotlight for May 11th & 12th (Hour 2)

May 11, 2024

Kicking off this hour, Matenaer On Air is joined by Dr. Karin Tamerius, a political psychiatrist, and the founder of Smart Politics which is a nonprofit that teaches progressives how to communicate more productively and persuasively with people who disagree with them, including conservatives. They talk about the work necessary to have those discussions and what it takes from those trying to do the convincing.

Then, on Up North News Radio with Pat Kreitlow, Pat dives into Microsoft’s president commenting on bringing thousands of jobs to Racine. Pat then calls out House Speaker Mike Johnson for playing the fear card about election integrity and exposes Rep. Tom Tiffany for playing politics with the US census.

After that, the John & Gordy Show is joined by Associate Editor of the Cap Times John Nichols to comment on the encampment at UW Madison, and shares how protest relates to the Wisconsin Idea.

Last but not least, Nite Lite with Pete Schwaba is joined by stand-up comedian Rocky LaPorte. Rocky talks about his start in stand-up comedy, shows Rocky has coming up in Wisconsin, and Rocky's favorite places to perform.

Weekly Best of Todd Allbaugh Show for May 4

May 4, 2024

On Protests And Responsible Journalism:

Protests over the war in Gaza have come to a head at UW Madison. Is it comparable to what’s happening at Columbia University, or is it being blown out of proportion on the news and social media? We welcome Pat Kreitlow of UpNorthNews Radio and Trygve Olson of The Lincoln Project to discuss their perspective on news coverage of protests.

While Pat focuses on the journalism side, Trygve delves deeper into the politics of these protests. He and Todd believe that it is shortsighted to vote against “Genocide Joe.” If people believe that President Biden is mismanaging the situation, they should imagine what would happen with Trump in charge. Donald Trump has explicitly said he would encourage Russia to “do whatever the hell they want.” He would offer a blank check to Israel. Joe Biden is the only sane choice on this and many other issues.

Time Is On Our Side (Hour 1)

April 30, 2024

Welcome Tuesday, this show is absolutely fantastic and we have so much for you, first we're kicking things off with the RNC...the event and where are they?! Seriously people, the big show is less than three months away and not a flag planted, a podium set up or a hotel room booked (yes, that's hyperbole, but we like the rhythm) and we wanna know "Why?" and what impact will this have if the convention is a dud...or cancelled all together! We then welcome Civic Media's own Pat Kreitlow, host of UpNorthNews Radio to talk about an article in Time about Trump 2.0.

As always, thank you for listening, texting and calling, we couldn't do this without you! Don't forget to download the free Civic Media app and take us wherever you are in the world! Civic Media Spotlight for April 27th & 28th (Hour 2)

April 27, 2024

Kicking off this hour of the Civic Media Spotlight, Ron Brooks VP from the Wisconsin Area Music Industry (WAMI) joined Maino & the Mayor to talk a bit more about the WAMI awards that will take place in Green Bay on May 19th at the Epic Center. The show also discusses with Ron the importance of music and the arts in schools. Ron also announces the 2024 inductees into the WAMI Hall of Fame!

Then, Pat Kreitlow shares his thoughts on how Republican legislators blocked millions for the UW System until they could blackmail diversity programs. Now they’re blocking millions to clean up contaminated drinking water, millions of dollars to address a healthcare crisis in the Chippewa Valley, and now they’re blocking $36 million in opioid settlement money from being used for proven treatment and counseling programs.

After that, the Chad Holmes Show is joined by 7th District Congressional candidate Kyle Kilbourn to discuss his campaign and current events around central and northern Wisconsin.

Rounding out the Spotlight, the John and Gordy show was joined by Lisa Gaumnitz from Save Our Song Birds and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources to talk about "Fat Bird Week".

Get Up And Support Wisconsin Schools! (Hour 1)

April 24, 2024

Last night, State Senator Kelda Roys and Representative Katrina Shankland held a public forum in Muscoda on the string of two-year UW campus closures. Approximately 100 people showed up, crossing political party lines to discuss the importance of higher education in our state. Will this reignite the Wisconsin idea in the hearts of the people and our legislature? Our usual Wednesday guests, Pat Kreitlow of UpNorthNews Radio and Trygve Olson of The Lincoln Project, provide their analysis on this attack on education.
