Dr. Kristin Lyerly
Be Like Vel (Hour 1)
History was made on Friday at the Wisconsin State Capitol with the unveiling of a statue dedicated to Vel Phillips, believed to be the first statue honoring a Black woman outside any state capitol in the United States. It’s a deserving honor for a true Wisconsin trailblazer whose milestones are being remembered as the nation moves toward electing the first Black women president.

Dr. Kristin Lyerly
This week Mark's guest is Dr. Kristin Lyerly, candidate for the 8th congressional district. Dr. Lyerly starts off the conversation talking about her life in Northeast Wisconsin. From growing up and going to school in Kaukauna, to going to school to become a doctor. She's now running as a candidate for the 8th congressional district. She says that she got inspired to run for office back during the Covid lockdown. When she saw the voters turning out in large numbers and waiting in long lines to exercise their right to vote, she realized she wanted to run and make a difference.

A Brand New Race (Hour 1)
A historic announcement by President Biden shakes up the 2024 presidential race. We’ll discuss Biden’s exit, the likely ascension of Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic nominee, and whether it’s now Republicans who feel anchored to a generation that should have passed the torch by now. Plus, 8th Congressional District Republicans hold a forum about their differences; we’ll ask the Democratic candidate about what was said.

Ballots, Not Bullets (Hour 1)
We’ll review the latest confirmed information about Saturday’s shooting at a Donald Trump rally in Pennsylvania—and offer another reminder that plenty of Americans need to stop offering heated, even violent rhetoric because it encourages and even inspires violence both on behalf of and against the people going way beyond civil discourse.

The Right in Retreat (Hour 1)
Press chatter notwithstanding, it was not a great week for the far-right around Wisconsin or around the world. A judge ruled parts of Act 10 are unconstitutional, putting its future in jeopardy. The state Supreme Court reinstated ballot drop boxes and smacked down legislative Republicans for holding up tax dollars for certain programs. Tories were routed in the United Kingdom and voters in France came together to stop its far-right party from taking over government.

You Say It’s Your Birthday (Hour 1)
Not gonna lie—the host of this daily radio program has been a little off as he approached today’s milestone birthday. It’s the last live show for the week, so he’s decided the best course of action is to kick back and invite friends to come on for informal chats rather than traditional news interviews. That includes our favorite Wisconsin power couple: Melissa Baldauff and Joe Zepecki.

An Unhappy Anniversary Of the Dobbs Decision
Earlier today, Vice President Kamala Harris spoke about the second anniversary of the Dobbs decision. An entire third of women live in a state with an abortion ban, leaving them with fewer freedoms than their grandmothers. From the MAGA perspective, a woman isn't able to make their own decisions about pregnancy, but anybody and everybody should own assault weapons.
At the bottom of the hour, OB-GYN and candidate for Wisconsin's 8th congressional district Dr. Kristin Lyerly returns to the show. She weighs in on how the Dobbs decision has changed her life immeasurably.

Born: From Kenny Chesney To Dr. Kristin Lyerly (Hour 1)
Late this morning, Todd went to the dentist, so the first half of this hour is pre-recorded to allow the numbing agents to wear off. We enjoy a reflection on the accomplishments of one of Todd’s favorite artists: Kenny Chesney.
Before his dental procedure, Todd filled in for Pat Kreitlow, and he had a conversation with Dr. Kristin Lyerly about women’s healthcare rights. As an OB-GYN who has worked in multiple states, she knows better than most that every pregnancy has its unique challenges. Blanket abortion bans proposed by MAGA Republicans are gross oversimplifications of difficult medical decisions.
