Jim Santelle

Trials and Trails (Hour 2)

April 19, 2024

While former President Trump is on trial, President Biden is on the campaign trail. We’ll talk to former US Attorney Jim Santelle about how a jury has been selected for Trump’s case of election interference via business fraud. And Mark Jacob will talk about the media being chastised for saying too much about the identity of jurors—and we’ll chastise some media ourselves for their Biden coverage this week.

Stepping In It (Hour 2)

April 12, 2024

Nobody asked Republican Senate candidate Eric Hovde to publicly assert (more than once!) that nursing home residents are likely to die soon, so they shouldn’t necessarily be helped with voting. It’s a remark getting national attention, so we’ll talk to Max Richtman, president and CEO of the National Committee to Protect Social Security and Medicare. And former US Attorney Jim Santelle has details on next week’s start to the first-ever criminal trial for a former president.

Let’s Ask the Legal Expert (Hour 2)

April 5, 2024

With an ex-President facing more than 90 criminal felony counts, it can get a little confusing to trace all the developments and possibilities in all those courtrooms. Fortunately, we have former US Attorney Jim Santelle to join us on Fridays as he prepares for his new Saturday morning legal show, Amicus: A Legal Brief.

Northland Forever… or Soon Gone (Hour 2)

March 26, 2024

The Northland College community is faced with a daunting task of raising millions of dollars to keep the Ashland campus open. We’ll talk to two supporters about their efforts. Dr. Kristin Lyerly previews today’s arguments before the US Supreme Court about medication abortion. And Jim Santelle tells us about the ways he’s refreshed his Saturday morning show on the Civic Media radio network.

Ben Hurr

March 14, 2024

Jim Santelle joins the show to talk about Trump's legal woes. Will a New York judge delay his case? Will a porn star take him down? Plus, is Hurr's testimony partisan nonsense? Jim helps break it down.

Dress for Success

March 7, 2024

Civic Media host Jim Santelle joins the Devils, dressing for the job he has, not for the job he wants. There's more than enough legal news going on in the world, and Jim helps the boys break them down.

RoJo is still denying that he knew anything about the false elector plan in 2020, even though new texts show that he was well informed about the plot. Is he criminally liable for his role? It's too early to say, says Jim, but wait and see. We'll have to see what Jack Smith has to say...

And what about Stormy Daniels? Yes, it's salacious, but it might also be enough to be the one to take down Trump. There's been several "moments" to take down Trump, including with the Stormy Daniels Case. Can this be the one that actually does it?

How long does it take to write “ditto”

February 22, 2024

In his last hour before Crute comes back from vacation to give his own... unique takes on the world, Dom is joined by James Santelle to talk the important legal issues in the world today.

Santelle is a former US attorney, and host on the Civic Media Network.

First - there's a bevy of Trump legal cases to talk about, because there's always a bevy of Trump legal cases to talk about. His plans to stall his January 6th case, and it might be working. Chutkan has to move fast to hear the case, otherwise it might get postponed until after the November election.

Meanwhile, in his Alvin Bragg case, a date is set for March 25. Back to Manhattan, we look at Donald Trump's origin story, as Santelle likes to call it. It's not just about the porn star hush money (even if it's more fun to talk about), it's about trying to subvert the 2016 election by covering up a salacious story.

Plus, is it legal to lie to federal investigators about the President's son? Asking for a friend.

Trials and numbers

February 7, 2024

Trump's lawyers get to argue before the US Supreme Court tomorrow morning about whether or not he should appear on the Colorado ballot. Civic Media Host Jim Santelle joins the Devil's to give his take on the case. His prognosis? SCOTUS will probably put him back on the ballot, because that's just who they are.

And should Trump have absolute immunity? No, of course not, says Santelle. Not only that, but the matter should be done, and should not be heard by SCOTUS. Will he try to appeal anyways and draw this thing out? Probably, but then the question is - does SCOTUS have enough integrity to ignore it?

Then, Charles Franklin with the Marquette Law School Poll is back with the results of his newest poll, that released today. Biden and Trump are neck and neck! Hayley, not so much. In fact, she's polling even worse in Wisconsin than she did last night in Nevada. Plus, people want the weed in Wisconsin, and our suspicions are confirmed: Robin Vos is the most unpopular politician in the state of Wisconsin.

Is Trump Above the Law? (2nd Hour)

January 26, 2024

The former president is in a lot of legal hot water, but his supporters and attorneys claim the laws at the heart of his criminal cases and ballot eligibility don’t actually apply to him. We’ll talk to former US Attorney Jim Santelle, who now hosts a Saturday morning show on Civic Media. Plus, Mark Jacob reviews this week’s media coverage of the campaign; and Dan Schumacher previews this weekend in sports.

That! Is not! Permitted!

January 25, 2024

Morning Cannoli's (or however it's grammatically correct) host Jim Santelle joins the Devil's in the happier happy hour to talk all things Trump trial.

Trump testified in the E Jean Carroll case today. Why? He lasted all of three minutes before the judge cut him off and told him to buzz off, so why was he there? Can't be a campaign speech, because there was no audio or video recording of his testimony!

While he claims he's never even met E Jean Carroll, prior testimony seems to disagree. In fact, the jury got to hear audio from last year where he confused her with his own ex-wife. Whoops!

Is it fair to call Trump psychotic? Or to attribute his failings on some mental condition. Crute says no, because that's not fair to people who do suffer from a mental condition, and gives Trump an out. Dom, though, points out that White House staff asked for a psychological evaluation all the way back in 2017.
