Jim Santelle
You gotta keep ’em separated (White House and DoJ edition) (Hour 1)
Former US Attorney and current Civic Media host of Amicus: A Law Review Jim Santelle joins us today to talk law. Jim and Dom spend some time checking in on Tuesday's presidential debate- of course- before launching into a law review. Yesterday, Merrick Garland delivered an address to the workforce stating that the DoJ would remain independent from all political maneuvering. We all suffer when justice becomes politicized. And some people- not to mention names- need a reminder of what it means to be a public servant.
Join Dom Salvia every afternoon from 4-6pm for news (some), humor (more), and great conversation (always)! Listen throughout the state of Wisconsin on the Civic Media network and worldwide on the Civic Media app. Call or text to join the fun at 855-752-4842.
Better, But… (Hour 2)
This week’s presidential debate showed that moderators can do some fact-checking in real time—even if one of the candidates insists a story about pets being eaten is true because he heard someone say it on TV. Still, only a fraction of Donald Trump’s falsehoods were checked and there was zero success in getting the former president to stop interrupting. Whatever happened to that mic muting idea?

And now, some good news, thank goodness!(Hour 2)
Jim Santelle continues covering developing legal news as he covers the show for Maggie. For her weekly segment, Teri Barr brings local but overlooked news. Today, some good news from the region. First, putting the rad in radish, UW- La Crosse introduces a new major, Food and Nutrition Sciences. Next, did you know that Wisconsin has the coolest pet store in the country? Check out the Crazy Dog Mom in Stoughton for more than doggie treats- they have doggie parties and seasonal events!
Still, we must take time for somber news and serious reflection. Jim analyzes the legal standards on which the alleged shooter and his father will be judged in the Apalachee High School attack on Wednesday. Both made their first court appearances yesterday.

Yet another consequential decision for the history books(Hour 1)
Jim Santelle sitting in for Maggie today, covering developing legal news.
Jim covers breaking news today with the Manhattan case presided over by Judge Juan Merchan. This is the state case in which Trump was convicted on 34 felony counts for document falsification and election interference. However, as announced today, the sentencing for these 34 counts will be delayed until after the election. Jim breaks down the potential consequences of this decision. Mark your calendar for the new sentencing date for Donald Trump for these 34 felony counts: November 26th. Then, a quick check in on the federal elections case before Judge Tanya Chutkan.

The Sanewashing Must Stop (Hour 2)
Asked in New York on Thursday for a policy to solve the childcare crisis, former President Trump offered two minutes of gibberish with no coherent ideas to address the problem. But you’d never know that from reading mainstream media write-ups. Mark Jacob and others are branding that kind of reporting as “sanewashing,” and they say it’s past time journalists stopped pretending Trump is behaving like any other public official by cherry-picking his words and leaving out the rambling stream of consciousness

The Unconventional Convention (Hour 2)
From a history-making nominee to a first-of-its-kind roll call, we’ll sum up the Democratic convention as delegates head home from Chicago. Plus: Mark Jacobs reminds us that not all fact checks are created equal. And former US Attorney Jim Santelle has updates on legal cases in two states that affect November’s ballot.

Beat the Press, Again (Hour 2)
Former President Donald Trump held something he described as a news conference on Thursday. Veteran journalist Jennifer Shulze created a media checklist to measure whether Trump was kept on message and held accountable or if he was allowed to ramble and lie and run out the clock. We’ll see how the press corps did.

Target: Midwest Nice (Hour 2)
From the choice of the aw-shucks governor from Minnesota to repeated appearances in Wisconsin and conventions in Milwaukee and Chicago, it’s clear the path to political power in the United States runs right through voters in the Midwest. Also: We’ll ask Mark Jacob if reporters and pundits are asking questions about Donald Trump’s fitness for office as enthusiastically as they were about President Joe Biden. Former US Attorney Jim Santelle has an update on Trump’s legal cases. And we talk to Dan Schumacher about the Brewers’ magic number—because we can do that now!

Overlooked Legal News (Hour 2)
Guest host Jim Santelle covers legal news you likely haven't heard yet. Not because they're unimportant- but because they're less flashy than the political news and disinformation that has dominated the news cycles this past month. Jim analyzes several cases currently under various steps of the legal process. His sources come directly from the Department of Justice, and he emphasizes the necessity to get your information from reliable, reputable sources.

We’ve got to be able to rely on facts(Hour 1)
Guest host Jim Santelle tackles the epidemics of misinformation and disinformation that threaten our society's trust in news sources. Have you heard the new conspiracy theory that President Biden is either terminally ill or already deceased? Well, shockingly, it's simply untrue. There are reliable news sources available.
