Most Wisconsin Headlines With Dan Shafer
Dan Shafer of The Recombobulation Area joins us in Luke’s absence to share some great Wisconsin headlines from the last week.
The Recombobulation Area: Dancing in the Moonlight
After some midnight Googling, Robin Vos and other Wisconsin Republicans have decided to suddenly rush through a nonpartisan redistricting bill. Dan Shafer joins us to recombobulate and make sense of what’s going on.
Throwing Out 1,000,000 Votes
Wisconsin Republican legislators have been seeking to impeach Justice Janet Protasiewicz before she has the chance to take any actions. While lawsuits are still pending, many of these complaints have been thrown out. What does the future hold for our state?
After that discussion, Dan Shafer transports us to the Recombobulation Area so we can break down the direction of Wisconsin childcare.
The Recombobulation Area: Snowbirds
Today we welcome Dan Shafer for some recombobulation. Robin Vos wishes to attract “snowbirds” to Wisconsin for tax purposes, but do his policies make sense? Is this even what the people of Wisconsin want?
There’s only 1 new car left under $20k (Hour 1)
Cox Automotive found the Mitsubishi Mirage was the only new model going for less than $20,000 last month. A middle-of-the-road new car cost over $48,000 in July, up 30% since 2019. And used cars were no better. The average July price was $27,000, also a 30% hike from 2019. We spend the first half of the show talking about what we spent on our cars and how feasible it is to budget for cars that cost this much.
Then we recombobulate with Dan Shafer ahead of tomorrow's Republican debate. Things he is looking for when he attends the debate?
- How will candidates talk about Milwaukee and Wisconsin?
- How will Milwaukee react to the spectacle and the spotlight?
- Can DeSantis turn it around?
- Will this be the moment for any other candidates break through?
- The Trump of it all.
Donald Trump Doesn’t Play Nice
Is our democracy truly representative? Wil and Luke share the results of a special election in Ohio before welcoming Dan Shafer into the Recombobulation Area. Dan recaps the state of Republican presidential candidates and how Wisconsin will factor in to their success.
Will the Serious Leaders Please Stand Up (Hour 1)
We start the show summarizing an Axios article about the three existential crisis making themselves very down this summer: rising temperature, nuclear bombs and the unknown capabilities of AI. For all three of these, it will require “serious work by serious people” - but when you look at what’s happening in DC… are we sure the US is providing that?
Then Dan Shafer of The Recombobulation Area joins to talk who will run against Tammy Baldwin for Senate now that Tom Tiffany has bowed out, the GOP silence on Milwaukee County passing its new sales tax and setting expectations for the new Wisconsin Supreme Court.
Who Will Take On Trump?
Do you believe that the US Supreme Court is doing a good job? Approval ratings have been on the rise according to the Marquette University Law School poll.
After that, we enter the Recombobulation Area with Dan Shafer to discuss the upcoming Republican primary debate. Will any of them turn on Donald Trump?
Shenanigans!
The results are in for yesterday’s special election for the 8th Senate District. Also, Michigan has charged the 16 2020 fraudulent electors in their state. Will Wisconsin do the same? Wil is getting set to slide into Attorney General Josh Kaul’s DMs.
Today, we unveil the new intro for The Recombobulation Area and Dan Shafer helps us unravel these election shenanigans.
Enough Blame to Share (Hour 1)
Young Americans are piling the blame for their student debt balances on conservatives, according to a poll by Generation Lab provided exclusively to Axios. But who is to blame the crisis in the first place? Tens of millions of borrowers in the U.S. collectively owe more than $1 trillion, can we really blame that kind of mountain of debt all on the personal responsibility of individuals making bad choices?
Then we welcome Dan Shafer for our weekly segment where we Recombobulate. This week, we talk about the potential 794 tear down, the special special elections in Assembly District 24, and your chance to go to the Cooperage on Friday July 21st and relive the glory of the Bucks championship.
