Maggie Daun
For our democracy, learn to color outside the lines. (Hour 1)
Starting off with some Overtime with Maggie Daun, we've got a busy day. Finally, after long delays and foot dragging, we now have access to HALF of Jack Smith's report on Donald Trump's felony indictments. You can read for yourself Jack Smith's final report on the January 6th, 2021 insurrection instigated and authorized by the 45th and soon to be 47th President. The document itself is unprecedented, laying out how a former POTUS would have been convicted of federal felony charges to disrupt the peaceful transition of power. Yet we'll never have that fulfillment of justice. Because there was no precedent for charging a former President with insurrection. And, the legal terms for insurrection didn't quite line up with what happened that day. The case highlights the multiple systems of justice in this country. And it should serve as an alarm bell to call us all to action in this new administration.

Civic Media Spotlight for January 11th & 12th (Hour 1)
On the Dom Salvia Show, Dom, with cohost of the day Jim Santelle, talks with Jack Kelly, statehouse reporter for Wisconsin Watch on the upcoming Wisconsin Supreme Court race. Read Jack's most recent piece on the current and potential future status of the state's highest court here. With a current 4-3 liberal-conservative population and a liberal justice retiring, April's election will decide whether the current balance maintains or tips to the conservatives.
Then, on John and Gordy In the Morning, the guys talk with Pam Jahnke about the premiere of Green and Gold, the new movie shot in Wisconsin about the Green Bay Packers.
Next, on UpNorthNews Radio, Assembly Minority Leader Rep. Greta Neubauer (D-Racine) and new state Sen. Sarah Keyeski (D-Lodi) discuss the opening of the new session of the Wisconsin Legislature. They had big hopes for bipartisan progress, now that fairer maps have made the Assembly and Senate more representative of Wisconsin voters. But Republicans have spent the week rushing to pass a voter suppression measure and even stripping away Democratic seats on committees.
Wrapping up the hour on the Maggie Daun Show, Maggie talks about one of her New Year intentions, not resolutions, of playing more. Maggie shares some of her favorite board games and takes calls and texts for recommendations about what games she can work into her intention to play more in 2025.

Wisconsin’s Contribution To The “Day Of Peace And Love” (Hour 1)
It's Tuesday, and that means we kick off the show with some Overtime with Maggie Daun! She and Dom kick around the latest sports news. If the Packers can't win the big game, Maggie hopes it'll be the Lions. After a brief discussion on music, they turn to the latest political scandal. Former WI Attorney General and conservative WI Supreme Court candidate Brad Schimel is getting himself in some hot water. He claims that many of the January 6th insurrectionists were only found guilty because of where they were tried. As a lawyer, Maggie calls BS. If you don't want to be tried in a liberal district, don't commit crimes in one!
At the bottom of the hour, Dom continues the conversation about J6, focusing on the 11 Wisconsinites charged with crimes relating to the incident. President-elect Trump likes to talk about pardoning all of the allegedly wrongfully convicted peaceful protestors, but these particular rioters certainly weren't peaceful.

Actions, Meet Consequences (Hour 1)
Maggie Daun sticks around for some overtime to discuss 10 new charges leveled against Wisconsin's 2020 fraudulent electors. Attorney General Josh Kaul announced these new 10 new felony charges today against defendants Kenneth Chesebro, Jim Troupis, and Mike Roman. Interestingly, the new charges allege that these three sought to defraud Republican electors in their scheme to throw out Wisconsin's electoral votes. Each charge carries a maximum penalty of 6 years in prison and a $10,000 fine. We'll follow this story and bring updates as they emerge.

75 Strikes (Hour 2)
Recent developments in Syria reveal that the U.S. has conducted 75 airstrikes in the region. President Bashar al-Assad is relying on Russian support to maintain control, with discussions about potential chemical weapon use. Hassan, known as "the butcher," was a feared enforcer for Assad, overseeing Air Force Intelligence and detention centers like Mezzeh Prison, notorious for systematic torture. He is among many high-ranking officials from the regime wanted or sanctioned globally, having fled affluent areas of Damascus.
In a separate note, former President Trump recently insulted a reporter during an interview, questioning her fact-checking accuracy.

Civic Media Spotlight for Weekend of December 7th, 2024 (Hour 1)
Kicking off this hour, the Earl Ingram Show is joined by Wisconsin's own Ben Wikler to discuss his bid for Chairman of the National Democratic party and the reasons he believes the Democrats did not see the results they wanted in November.
Then on UpNorthNews Radio, Ron ‘Duff’ Martin, an Eau Claire teacher who serves on the executive board of the National Education Association, talked about how this week’s overturning of Act 10 by a court can play a role in improving public education in Wisconsin. There will still be appeals of the ruling that strikes down former Gov. Scott Walker’s signature law that gutted public employee unions in the state in 2011, but Martin said if the final outcome is the reinstatement of collective bargaining rights, then unions will be able to negotiate working conditions that will help retain teachers and address worsening shortages, especially in rural districts.
On Matenaer On Air this week, former assembly candidate and county party volunteer Emily Tseffos joined the show to discuss what the Democrats need to do post election and the conversations that need to be had. She also speaks about the conversations that need to be had between voters and what keeps us connected and not divided. Emily also speaks about what needs to happen on the county party level with regard to long range planning for future elections.
The hour wraps with a segment from the Maggie Daun Show, where Maggie shares her takes on the news of the week that a county judge has ruled certain portions of the 2011 Act 10 unconstitutional and what is likely to come next in the battle to return collective bargaining rights back to public sector unions.

Too Much Tension (Hour 1)
Lets start with the politics! The current political atmosphere is tense, illustrated by Rep. Pat Fallon's intense questioning of Secret Service Director Ronald Rowe during congressional hearings, which portray Congress as dysfunctional. This political unrest is coupled with broader societal issues, exemplified by the shooting of a healthcare CEO that highlights concerns about greed in the medical industry, where profit is often placed above patient care.

Wallowing in the Bro-ness (Hour 1)
Today, we woke to startling news that South Korea's president declared martial law - an ominous portent for what Trump may try should he not get his way in a second administration. Maggie Daun joins Dom for weekly overtime to discuss South Korea and Trump's senior leadership picks. Trump tapped Fox host Pete Hegseth to lead the DoD and Kash Patel for FBI. The two bring resumes that differ in their unsuitability for their nominations: Hegseth for sexual assault, drunken disorderly conduct, and incompetent leadership; Patel for hawking merchandise capitalizing on conspiracy theories, including through children's books.

The Gable Guy (Hour 1)
A shocking number of people have not gotten their vaccinations this Fall and we talk about the who and the why of it all. But don't worry, the new head of the NIH will help us all. Next, we have a Bluesky update, because it's making people nervous! Then we welcome Maggie Daun, host of The Maggie Daun Show (M-F 2pm-4pm) to talk about the discussion she had with Law Forward and their complaint against former WI Supreme Court Justice Michael Gableman.

Honor the Work (Hour 1)
First, it's OT w/MD as Maggie Daun sticks around for a half hour to chat legal matters with Dom. This week, we're talking about Robin Vos and his comments on Michael Gabelman, and tariffs. Just today, Trump announced- via social media- his plan to enact a 25% tariff on imported goods from Mexico and Canada.
Then, remember last week when Dom went off about how Trump's planned deportations would devastate Wisconsin's dairy industry? Well, the farmer quoted heavily in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel piece Dom used as his anchor reached out to us for a chat. Hans Brietenmoser joins us to clear the record regarding his political views. He and Dom launch into a conversation on the ramifications of right-wing disinformation in rural areas. Many of Hans' conservative friends don't even realize who Trump intends to deport and what it will do to their industry.
