Wisconsin's measles outbreak has now spread beyond the four-county cluster in the southwestern part of our state that had previously contained the outbreak.

That's according to the latest report from the Department of Health Services.

Health workers confirm that Richland County has a new case of the infectious disease that's linked to the ongoing southwest outbreak.

Richland County Boarders Grant, Iowa, and Lafayette counties, which have measles cases numbering in the 70s to more than 100.

Wisconsin's total number of measles cases now stands at 289, all but two cases are in those unvaccinated for the disease.

A Wisconsin school district was recently scammed out of nearly $100,000 in what authorities are calling cyber theft.

School leaders say the crime happened last August after the business manager processed what's described as an unusual payment request from a third party.

Officials say the district put the business manager on leave after finding they lost $92,000 to a cyber crime.

They say the step is not a determination of wrongdoing.

The district is now working with police, attorneys, and insurance trying to recover the lost taxpayer funds.

The UW-Madison Board of Regents is moving forward with plans to build new residence halls to help house its growing student body.

The university is currently operating dorms at 115% capacity, forcing many students into crowded triples or converted lounge spaces.

To address the shortage, the school plans to form a public-private partnership for all electric energy-efficient housing expected to open by fall of 2029.

Campus leaders say the new facilities will ease housing pressure and restore dedicated student study areas pending final state legislative approval.

A Wisconsin man was buried alive yesterday when a six-foot-deep trench collapsed in on him in the town of Cicero.

The 44-year-old was laying piped to a barn on his property when the walls of the trench gave way.

Rescue workers from Nichols Rural Fire and Black Creek Rescue, along with several additional departments, worked for close to an hour getting the man out.

They say he was conscious in breathing when they rescued him and took him to a Green Bay hospital by ambulance.

Wisconsin's two U.S.

senators are confirming their Milwaukee offices received suspicious mail containing unknown substances yesterday.

Republican Ron Johnson and Democrat Tammy Baldwin both released statements confirming their staff encountered letters matching a nationwide pattern targeting political and election offices.

The FBI and U.S.

Postal Inspection Service are leading a joint investigation into the origin of the mailings.

Wisconsin candidates for Governor David Crowley and Tom Tiffany are finalizing their preparations ahead of tonight's debate in Milwaukee.

The broadcast marks the only televised debate of the governor's race and will air statewide on ABC affiliates.

Both candidates are aiming to highlight key contrasts on economic issues and campaign priorities before a broad audience.

Station officials report the debate is produced by WISN TV in partnership with WIS Politics.

Governor Tony Evers is formalizing a new international partnership to boost economic and educational ties between Wisconsin and France.

Evers signed a sister-state agreement this week with officials from France's Brejean-Franç-Comté region during a ceremony at the state capitol.

The deal marks Wisconsin's seventh sister-state connection and the first new agreement of its kind in 36 years.

State leaders say the partnership will focus on expanding joint ventures in agriculture, dairy,

clean energy and advanced manufacturing.

And that's your state news update.
