Well, you know what?
That sunshine out there, that's, you know, I think the temperature is in the 60s.
Not a bad way to start a Wednesday, you know?
No, not at all.
It feels good.
So happy spring, everyone.
And I guess now it's the unofficial start to summer after Memorial Day, right?
So...
I suppose so.
You said meteorologically.
It's June 1st.
Isn't that a mouthful?
Yeah.
The meteorological start of summer.
I
practiced it.
Yeah.
It's
a word that you should practice.
I still screw it up anyway.
Yeah,
it's not a hard, it's not an easy word to get out there.
But I guess we have like all these, you know, unofficial starts, official starts, meteorological start.
The official start is June 21st.
Yeah.
And that's Johannes, which is going to be coming up here in Hancock.
And we're going to talk a little bit about that in the program.
But we want to, we just had the first market of the season on Quincy Green this past Sunday.
And it was an amazing market.
They had
over 40 vendors that were local and regional.
They had music, food trucks.
And we want to thank the Whimsiquares for hosting this event.
They did such a great job.
So, bravo to you.
It was just pure fun on Quincy Green.
We hope everybody was able to come on out and celebrate.
It was a beautiful, beautiful day on Quincy Green.
So, again, thank you to the Whimsiquares for hosting this amazing event.
And speaking of fun,
Downtown Hancock is the place to be for game night every Thursday, which is tomorrow.
So we've got fun at KC Bonkers at 119.
Quincy Street.
That's every Thursday, and they are open until 8pm every Thursday.
So get your gang together, your friend group together, and get out there and have some fun with games at Casey Bonkers.
Also, New Teenies Supper Club at 321 Quincy Street hosts Trivia Night every Thursday, and that begins at 8.30pm.
This week, we also have the Church of the Resurrection at 900 Quincy Street hosting Bingo Night.
So that's this Thursday and so doors open at 4 30 with games at 5 30 p.m.
And that's play six cards for $12 or 12 cards for 20 and that is a public the public is welcome to Bingo night this Thursday at the church of the resurrection We also have lots of great art here in the city of Hancock.
We're super proud of our art
art galleries and our Copper Country Community Art Center.
And they are featuring artist Rob Kangus and his abstract oil paintings called Emergence.
So check out his show.
He's one of my favorite local artists.
So his show goes through May 30th.
And that's at the Carriage Gallery at 126 Quincy Street.
That's inside of the Copper Country Community Art Center.
They do such a great job here in the city.
Hancock and our regional community art center.
So get on over there, support this community art center and check out Rob Kangus' work.
It's wonderful.
So they're also doing at the Copper Country Community Art Center, a community painting project.
And this is to celebrate the city of Hancock's 2026 Finno-Ugric Capital of Culture designation.
And they're hosting a CERC
bird painting event.
And they do this on Tuesdays from three until five p.m.
and Fridays from one until four p.m.
They're also doing Saturdays, but that's going to be times to be determined.
So check out the Copper Country Community Art Center's website for additional times.
But what they're doing is they're painting over 100 stylized birds.
So the Cirque Bird is the award that the City of Hancock received
for being the 2026 Finno-Ugric capital of culture.
And so you get to have an opportunity to paint one of these stylized birds that will be presented throughout the city of Hancock.
So there are paper birds that will be hung in storefronts and there are wooden birds that will be placed in all of the or many of the different planter boxes we have throughout the city.
So what a great opportunity for your either a work group or a friend
group or your family to be involved in the 2026 Finno Ugra Capital of culture here in the city of Hancock by doing a circuit bird painting at the community center or community art center.
That again, Tuesdays from three until five, Fridays from one until four, and the deadline for this is May 30th.
So that's coming up really quickly.
We don't have many more days until the 30th.
So get out over to the art center, get your bird painted and be a
part of this amazing celebration that we have coming up in just a couple of weeks here in the city of Hancock.
We also have Bonnie Lauchas.
She's doing a show at the Finlandia Art Gallery at the Finnish American Heritage Center.
And she's featuring oil paintings called Liminal Sanctuaries.
And her show is through June 10th.
So lots of really great art opportunities right here in the city of Hancock.
There will be a movie at the Orphean
theater this Saturday, May 30th, and that is Air Guitar Nation.
This is a free screening of a prequel to the Michigan Air Guitar Exhibition, which will be on June 20th.
That's going to be part of the Johannes celebration here in Hancock at the Orpheum.
This is a Wolf's Head film presentation, and it's called Air Guitar Nation.
That is this Saturday, May 30th, doors open
at 6 p.m., movie at 7 p.m.
This is a free screening, folks, so this is gonna be a lot of fun.

We've got Rewind, Rewind fans, they will be at Geno's this Sunday, May 31st, from 3 until 7 p.m., so you can kick off your summer on the patio at Geno's.

at the Sunflower Books and Coffee Parking Lot.

This is really a beloved event here in the city of Hancock.
The kids just love all the baby farm animals that come for this event.

So we've been talking a little bit about Bridge Fest, but there's a lot of things happening here on
in for BridgeFest in downtown Hancock.
including the kickoff for Bridge Fest, which is Kids on the Green on Friday, June 12th from 11 a.m.
until 3 p.m.
featuring Engineering Camp, the Hot Diggity Dog Costume Parade, which is at 2 p.m.
and Games and Fun for All on Quincy Green.
That is on June 12th from 11 a.m.
until 3 p.m.
The Thatcher Markham Memorial Run is at 7 p.m.
with the parade to follow.
Sports tournaments throughout the City of Hancock are on Saturday, June
13th with the Pickleball tourney at Lauren Grove at 9 a.m.
Tennis at the Terrace Park at 9 a.m.
And there's the Beach Volleyball at Hancock Beach at 10 a.m.
And then we have the Corn, I'm sorry, the Cribbage Tournament at New Teenies at one.

That is Saturday, June 13th, right here in downtown Hancock.
We've been talking a lot about Johannes as well, so just a couple of little things.
We'll be hosting ambassadors from Finland, Estonia and Hungary.
There'll be a beach party and bonfire at the Hancock Beach featuring international music, food and fun.
And with Rewind, they'll be playing at the beach as well.
They'll be starting at 7 p.m.
That'll be the finale for the evening there.
There'll be lectures on June 17th and 18th with a torii at the Hancock High School.
There'll be the long drink and beer gardens throughout the city.
Hancock, the mid-summer poll raising will be on Saturday June 20th and the wife-carrying contest, International Sound of Games and the Michigan Air Guitar Exhibition.
So that's all coming up and we're going to be talking a lot more about that as the summer rolls around.
It's not completely official, it's not the meteorological
beginning of summer yet, but that's coming.
