This is your WCQM Daily News Roundup for 98Q Country 98.3 FM and Trail Mix 103.1 FM and 980 AM WPFP in Park Falls.

Now a look at Northwood's News, I'm Maddie Schaefer.

Democratic candidate for Wisconsin Governor David Crowley visited several northern Wisconsin communities last week as part of his final campaign push ahead of Tuesday's election.

Crowley made stops in Ashland, Rice Lake and Superior during his statewide Let's Go to Work Wisconsin bus tour.

During his stop in Ashland, Crowley talked about the rising cost of living.

You think about your gas?

You think about your groceries?

You think about your utility bills?

I mean, you

compare this to

last year, everything is that much more expensive.

Crowley also criticized his Republican opponent, Congressman Tom Tiffany, over his support for President Donald Trump's policies.

They got tax breaks, you got higher bills.

They got their tariffs, you got higher prices.

They got their endless war, and we got record high gas prices.

He then outlined what he would prioritize if elected governor.

And this is what it looks like.

It looks like lowering your costs.

Happy childcare expenses at 7% of what a family earns.

It works by lowering your costs at the gas pump by repealing a nearly century old law that is just guaranteeing profit from big oil.

We do that by expanding healthcare.

So no one has to choose between going to see a doctor or paying their medical bills.

We do about fully funding our education system.

Republican Tom Tiffany was also campaigning in northern Wisconsin last week for his Common Sense bus tour.

He was joined by Seventh Congressional District candidate Michael Alfonso for rallies in Lady Smith, Hayward, Spooner, and Rice Lake.

Crowley and Tiffany will face each other in the November 3rd election for governor.

Did you remember to turn your clock back over the weekend?

The simple clock shift not only means fewer hours of daylight, it also means an added danger on the roads.

In fact, the week after daylight savings time is the most dangerous time of year for car deer collisions, according to the Department of Transportation.

That's because the time change pushes your evening commute into darkness, right at the time when white-tailed deer are most active, the middle of their breeding season.

Data from 2022 shows the number of car deer crashes nearly tripled during the month of November compared to the rest of the year.

Wildlife experts say slowing down this time of year, especially after dark, is really the only effective way to avoid a deer crash.

They won't jump out of the way if you lay on the horn.

Drivers need to be extra vigilant about watching for deer along the roadside.

And remember, if you see one deer, expect a few more.

New allegations are surfacing involving Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs.

Police records released Friday detail allegations from three additional women involving incidents dating back to 2021 and 22.

Jacob's attorneys strongly deny the accusations, calling them old, uncorroborated and easily disproven by substantial evidence.

Jacob's previously pleaded no contest to misdemeanor battery and criminal damage charges stemming from a May incident involving his former girlfriend.

A senior administrator from the University of Alabama system will be the next leader of the universities of Wisconsin, replacing Jay Rothman after his firing in April.

Regents voted unanimously today to select.

Tanya Johnson for the job.

The 57-year-old will become the system's 10th president and its first person of color in that role.

Johnson says her goal is to make the university's stronger, more connected, and more important to Wisconsin's future.

Johnson's expected to take office around January 1st.

Multiple people are dead following a shooting in Appleton over the weekend.

Police say officers responded to a suspicious complaint Friday night and found several shooting victims.

One person was hospitalized while authorities have not disclosed the exact number of fatalities.

The identities of those killed are being withheld pending notification of their families.

Investigators have not released details about the circumstances of the shooting, but say there's no ongoing threat to the public.

There were four deadly shootings in one week in Madison last week.

Madison police say two of those shootings happened on the same night.

The first happened around 8.15 Friday night.

Police say they found a 21-year-old man in a car with gunshot wounds.

He later died at a local hospital.

Just hours later, police say someone fired shots into a crowd outside a bar on Regent Street, killing a 32-year-old man.

This comes after two previous fatal shootings earlier in the week.

Police Chief John Patterson said it's been a very traumatic week for the community and pleaded with the public to stop using guns to resolve disputes.

Last year, there were five homicides in Madison throughout the whole year.

That number has already nearly doubled this year, with two months still left until year's end.

Animal rights activists are seeking to recall Dane County District Attorney Ismail Ozan over his handling of alleged animal abuse at Ridgeline Farms.

Organizers accuse Ozan of failing to prosecute the facility over its treatment of beagles.

A special prosecutor identified one violation, including cherry eye surgeries without general anesthesia, but reached a settlement instead of filing charges.

Activists aim to gather 100,000 signatures by Christmas Day ahead of a December 28th petition deadline.

A recall election could take place next spring if the petition qualifies.

And that's your state news update.
