Nine wolves were killed by federal wildlife officials in Price County following what the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources says were repeated threats to human safety.

According to Wisconsin Public Radio, the DNR says the incidents were reported in rural Price County between July of last year and August of this year.

Before the wolves were killed, the agency says it recommended several non-lethal measures, including removing potential attractants, using noise to scare the wolves away and increasing activity of

But the DNR says those efforts didn't work, and the wolves became less responsive to attempts to scare them away and more accustomed to people.

The nine wolves were trapped and euthanized by USDA Wildlife Services in late August and early September.

Gray wolves are federally protected in Wisconsin.

The DNR says it worked with the U.S.

Fish and Wildlife Service, and the removals were carried out under the Endangered Species Act.

Wisconsin drivers are getting a little relief at the pump this week.

Average

gas prices dropped 14.6 cents over the last week for an average of 413 in the state on Monday.

This is more than 33 cents higher than a month ago and $1.36 higher than this time last year.

Average gasoline and diesel prices fell in the majority of states over the last week, bringing relief to motorists across much of the country.

Officials at GasBuddy say oil shipments through the Strait of Hormuz are increasing.

However, refineries behind the Strait are not yet

moving products through at full capacity.

This may keep gasoline and diesel prices elevated compared to crude oil levels.

The Trump administration announced the re-release of 40 million barrels from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve, which likely caused early Monday trade to clock in lower than last week.

However, the likelihood of resumed U.S.-Iran hostilities after November's midterm elections remains the dominant wildcard in oil pricing.

Gas-buddy officials say the relief felt at the pump this week.

maybe temporary.

Nina Police say they're investigating a murder suicide in the city Sunday afternoon.

Police say they responded to reports of shots fired just before 5 p.m.

When they got there, they found two people dead, a 57-year-old woman and 59-year-old man.

Investigators say evidence points to the man shooting the woman before himself.

Their names have not been made public yet.

Anyone with information that could help the investigation can leave it anonymously with Winnebago County Crime Stoppers.

A suspect in a hit-and-run crash in Madison was found hiding in a closet, according to the Madison Police Department.

They say a vehicle hit a 24-year-old while he was sitting on a bike at a bike rack outside an apartment complex.

The man was taken to the hospital with serious injuries while police say the suspect drove away and parked in a nearby ramp.

Police identified the vehicle's owner using surveillance video.

An annual autumn pub crawl in Oshkosh is scheduled for this coming weekend, but Oshkosh police are strongly discouraging attendance.

The pub crawl is an informal event where people, mainly students and young adults, go from party to party at various houses near the UW Oshkosh campus.

Police say the pub crawl has increasingly been associated with excessive alcohol consumption and disruptive, violent behavior.

There were weapons-related incidents at the last two pub crawls.

The city of Oshkosh is working with law enforcement on additional guardrails in order

to keep the public safe during the event, the City Council recently put an ordinance in place that allows police to break up a party if they think it's gotten out of hand.

Wisconsin Hunters have a lot to look forward to this month with six different hunting seasons opening in October.

The Wisconsin DNR is reminding hunters and trappers to double check season dates before heading out and make sure they have the required licenses and stamps.

Hunters can find season dates, regulation, hunting hours, and other information on the DNR website.

As we get ready for the upcoming heating season, there are those who are going to need help paying the heating bill this year.

The Wisconsin Department of Administration has officially opened applications for the Wisconsin Home Energy Assistance Program.

State officials estimate that approximately 170,000 households will receive financial aid through the program this season.

Program benefits are paid directly to energy, utilities, and fuel suppliers to help offset home heating and power expenses.

Qualification for the program is determined by household size, total income, and overall energy costs, with eligibility cap that households earning 60% or less of the state median income level.

In addition to regular bill relief, the program offers U-Round crisis assistance, emergency furnace and water heater repairs, and home weatherization services based on an individual household needs.
