October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and Ascension Health is using the month to clear up some common misconceptions about the disease.
According to a press release, about one in eight women in the U.S.
will develop breast cancer during their lifetime.
Ascension says while the risk increases with age, about 10% of diagnosis involve women younger than 45, and having no family history does not mean someone cannot develop breast cancer.
Most people diagnosed do not have a close relative with the disease.
Cancer also does not always cause a noticeable lump.
Some cases have no noticeable symptoms and are detected through a mammogram.
Ascension Health says early detection is key and recommends women at average risk get a mammogram every year beginning at age 40 and talking with their provider about any changes they notice.

Communities nationwide, including right here in Wisconsin, are weighing in on power and land use in the data center debate.
A Washington Post analysis finds the majority of data centers built are replacing farmland or forests.
Wisconsin communities like Jamesville continue pressing for more information about utility costs and long-term impacts versus potential economic benefits to the community.
The Jamesville City Council voted 7-0 on Monday to establish a one-year moratorium on new data center development.
The same day, the City of Depeers Plan Commission in Northeast Wisconsin endorsed a moratorium on large-scale data center development.
If approved, it would make the city the largest and latest community in Brown County to adopt such a measure.
Wisconsin is one of 38 states that offer tax incentives for data centers.
A Legislative Fiscal Bureau report estimates Wisconsin data center projects could result in up to $2 billion in state sales tax revenue.

Brewer's playoff fever is sweeping the state as the brew crew gets set to take on the San Diego Padres this weekend at American Family Field in Milwaukee with a terrific tailgating forecast.
There won't be any tailgating at Lambeau though with the Packers on the road and off to a slow start this season.
The oldest rivalry in the NFL got bumped out of prime time this week when the Packers Bears matchup was moved from television's coveted late afternoon Sunday slot to a noon game on October 11th.

Our state's famous fall foliage isn't quite at peak yet for most of Wisconsin, so there's still time to take it all in.
