The Wisconsin State Patrol and Railway Police were at railroad crossings in Superior this week as part of a nationwide rail safety campaign.
According to a press release, Operation Clear Track brought officers to five crossings around the city, where they talked with drivers and pedestrians about crossing laws and took enforcement action when needed.
The effort in Superior was part of C-Track's Think Train Week, which focuses on reducing crashes, injuries, and deaths around railroads.
as home to about 3,300 miles of active train tracks and nearly 4,000 public rail crossings.
The state patrol says there have been 360 train-related crashes in Wisconsin over the past 10 years.
86 of those happened in the Northwest region.
Drivers are reminded to never go around lowered crossing gates and to make sure there is enough room to completely clear the tracks before crossing.
The state patrol also reminds people that railroad tracks and rail yards are private property.

Bayfield County residents and business owners have a chance to review updated preliminary flood maps from FEMA.
The maps show flood risk across the county and could affect future flood insurance requirements for some property owners.
A 90-day appeal and comment period began September 24.
Property owners can submit an appeal if they have technical information showing the maps should be changed.
Comments can also be submitted for errors such as incorrect road names or boundaries.

Portage police arrested a high school student for bringing a gun to a football game the same day this week, and Oshkosh High School student was arrested for bringing a gun to school.
Police say the 17-year-old brought a gun to a portage football game earlier this month.
The school district and police investigated after a witness reported seeing a student with a gun at the September 11th game, but did not make any arrests.
Police say new, critical information led to the student's arrest on Wednesday.
The student faces charges of possession of a firearm on school grounds and obstructing.
Stephen Avery's sentence for killing Teresa Halbach should not be shortened according to a judge who says commutation would be, quote, entirely inappropriate.
Avery and his nephew, Brendan Dassey, are applying to the Governor's Commutation Advisory Board.
Both are serving life sentences for the 2005 murder of Teresa Halbach.
Manitowoc County Judge Guy Dutchers says while he didn't originally preside over Avery's case, he was assigned the case two years ago and has reviewed it.
Dassey was a teenager at the time of his conviction.
He submitted an application for a juvenile commutation earlier this month.
The judge offered no opinion, but did forward it to the state.
The Ho-Chunk Nation has announced the grand opening of Ho-Chunk Gaming Beloit.
The opening celebration takes place on October 23rd at 2 p.m.
and will include a ribbon-cutting ceremony, guest speakers, a drum group, dancers, and live entertainment throughout the day.
The project has been in development since 2012.
The casino will be open 24 hours and have 1,300 slot machines.
The hotel, which is set to open next fall, will have 18 floors, 312 rooms,
and a 2,000-seat conference convention center.
It was a heartbreaking home opener at Lambeau Field last night as the Packers fell to the underdog Atlanta Falcons.
It was the first time the Packers have lost their first home game of the season in more than a decade.
Before the game even started last night, Senator Tammy Baldwin was pushing to make it easier for fans across Wisconsin to watch the Packers games on TV.
The home opener at Lambeau Field was one of four games this season scheduled on streaming platforms.
While fans in the Green Bay and Milwaukee markets could still watch the game on local broadcast channels, the rest of Wisconsin's Packer fans had to have an Amazon Prime subscription to tune in.
They'll have the same issue the night before Thanksgiving, but will need a Netflix subscription to watch the pack take on the Rams in LA.
In a press conference hours before kickoff, Baldwin said Wisconsin families are already stretched thin with high costs right now.
They should have to pay extra to stay home and cheer on the green and gold.
A woman from Fitchburg, Wisconsin called me saying that her father couldn't afford streaming services and that it was unfair to a generation of fans who have spent their lives cheering on the Packers.
Baldwin's For the Fans Act would require sports leagues to give local fans one free live option to watch their team's games.
It would also end blackouts on league-owned streaming services.
A member of Wisconsin's Tavern League joined Baldwin's press conference.
The Green Bay bar owner says the thousands of dollars that can add up in commercial subscription fees is just not affordable for many small bars and restaurants.

The Brewers opened a three game set tonight at Ampham Field against the St.
Louis Cardinals.
Last night, the Brewers beat the Phillies five to one to log their 100th win in a season.
A new franchise record.
Manager Pat Murphy on the significance.
I think it's special because it's a milestone that, you know, very few, relatively speaking, out of 30 teams, very few over the next 10 years will win 100, you know, first time in franchise history.
And I'm just grateful and proud to be
it's back to the drawing board for the Packers who got blown out by the Atlanta Falcons 35 to 14.
It's the first time the Packers have lost a home opener in 13 years.
I don't think anybody's pleased about this and we've got a couple extra days here and everybody's got to take a long hard look at themselves and we got to find solutions and just come back ready to work.
But it certainly was a tough night.
