Embrace, a domestic violence advocacy organization serving northwestern Wisconsin, is marking Domestic Violence Awareness Month with several activities throughout October in Washburn County.

The organization is working with local businesses and libraries to raise awareness about domestic violence and connect people with resources.

For the seventh year, Embrace is holding its Brew Love Not Hate campaign, which includes special coffee sleeves and information about its services at Whistle Punk in Stone Lake.

and Shell Lake libraries also have book displays focused on domestic violence, empowerment, and survival.

A display of 101 lights can be seen outside Economar in Spooner.

Coming up this week, Embrace is encouraging residents to wear purple on Thursday in support of survivors.

And on October 28th, Embrace and Lakeland Family Resource Center will hold a lunch and learn in Spooner to talk

about the services available to local families.

The town of Hayward is holding two public meetings this month to discuss its revised facilities plan ahead of the November 3rd referendum.

The updated plan includes a preliminary project cost of about $9 million or less, down from an earlier estimate of more than $13 million.

The plan covers facilities for the town's fire, highway administration, and police departments.

Residents will have a chance

to learn more about the proposed changes, updated costs, and the upcoming referendum before heading to the polls.

The first meeting is Tuesday, October 20th, with a second meeting scheduled for Tuesday, October 27th.

Both meetings begin at 6pm at the Town of Hayward Town Hall on Highway 77.

Drivers across Wisconsin are being reminded to watch for deer as the fall mating season gets underway.

The Wisconsin State Patrol says deer are on the move this time of year, increasing the risk of

crashes, especially around Don and Dusk.

Last year, Wisconsin recorded more than 17,000 deer related crashes, resulting in six deaths and more than 700 injuries.

About 42% of those crashes happened between October and December, with November seeing the highest number.

State Patrol Superintendent Tim Carnahan says drivers should keep an eye on the road ahead, especially as the days get shorter and deer become harder to spot.

Drivers are reminded to slow down when approaching deer.

near the road and watch for others that may follow.

If a collision is unavoidable, the state patrol says to break firmly and stay in your lane rather than swerving, which could lead to a more serious crash.

And if you do hit a deer, you should pull over safely and call 911 if someone is injured or the deer is blocking the road.

Drivers are also reminded never to approach or attempt to move an injured deer.

As we get closer to the November 3rd election, the Wisconsin Department of Motor Vehicles is reminding voters to make sure they have the proper identification.

A Wisconsin driver's license or state ID card are two of the most common forms of identification accepted at the polls.

A federally compliant real ID is not required, and certain military and student IDs are also accepted.

For those who need an ID to vote, the DMV offers state ID cards free of charge.

If the card isn't ready in time,

For Election Day, eligible voters can receive a temporary receipt that can be used at the polls.

Voters who need a state ID can visit WisconsinDMV.gov slash ID cards for information on the documents required to apply.

The DMV also has a new online locator to help residents find their nearest service center.

Ashland County and the city of Ashland have submitted more than $330,000 in requests for reimbursement of law enforcement costs related to Enbridge's Line 5 pipeline reroute.

The city of Ashland has requested more than $96,000 with about $40,000 reimbursed.

comes from an account funded by Enbridge and managed independently by the Wisconsin County's Association.

However, not every local government has accepted the funding.

Bayfield County voted against the agreement in February over concerns about public trust and law enforcement.

Ashland Police Chief Brandon Martin says the city's requests were for protective equipment to improve officer safety during large gatherings and potentially volatile situations.

Ashland County Chief Deputy Dave Dawson says deputies spent more

than 535 hours responding to line five related calls between January and August.

The sheriff's office recorded 72 incident reports between July and late September, including calls involving protests, trespassing, and vandalism.

Governor Tony Evers is encouraging Wisconsin businesses and nonprofits affected by severe storms and flooding in July to apply for federal disaster loans.

The U.S.

Small Business Administration is offering low-interest loans to help eligible communities recover from storm damage and financial losses.

Forest and Vilas counties qualify for both physical damage and economic injury loans.

Small businesses and private nonprofits in Iron, Oneida and Price counties are also eligible for economic

injury loans.

The deadline for physical damage loans is December 7, while economic injury loan applications are due July 7 of next year.

In a press release about having two people in custody in connection to a body found in Lake Michigan, police say false information about the victim and suspects is circulating on social media.

They say a GoFundMe account connected to the case may also be a scam.

Authorities found the body in Lake Michigan near a two rivers marina last Friday.

Police say they arrested one person Friday.

Another suspect was already in jail for an unrelated case.

Authorities believe this was an isolated incident and there's no threat to the public.

And today is the day Wisconsinites can get out and vote if you want to cast your ballot early.

Dozens of voting locations are set up all across the state.

Unlike Election Day, you don't have to go to a specific polling location to vote, depending on where you live.

You do have to live in Wisconsin, though, and bring an idea along to prove it.

Days, hours, and times of early voting vary by city, so be sure to check ahead for the details where you live.

You can find a list on many city clerks' websites, or check the website MyVote.

dollars from the U.S.

Junior Curling Association.

Court records show he'll be sentenced in February.

The gun deer hunting season is right around the corner, and Wisconsin's deer population is on the move.
