Some people walking across the, uh, the crosswalk, the glass overture center, performing arts center across the street there.

as my favorite oldest godson, Alexander.

Alex was, he's in town for work.

Works for Eli Lilly, and he's in town at his alma mater, UW Madison, to do some recruitment.

Well, great, and you'll get to see him.

Right, yeah, we already, we had breakfast.

Oh, gotcha.

At Marigold Kitchen this morning.

The French toast there is amazing.

I've never been.

Fresh fruit on top of it, mm.

Good stuff.

So I got to catch up with Alex a little bit.

So that was that was fantastic.

He and his his girlfriend have a cat, Sasuke.

And so they had to drop because because his girlfriends on the road for work as well.

And so he brought the cat with him.

He drove up from Indiana and dropped the cat in the row.

And then he came up here.

I think there may have been a wayside transfer of the cat.

That's pretty funny.

At some point.

And his dad, my buddy Kurt, sent me a picture last night as we were both texting each other during the Brewers game.

And they're 13, 15, whatever.

He's an old, old beagle.

You understand?

Buddy the Beagle, who has seen it all, he doesn't give a crap about anything.

He just wants to eat and go for a walk and sleep.

And here's this cat who has invaded his space and he's just counting the days till the cat leaves.

But great to have Alex home.

I wonder, do Alex or his girlfriend either ride motorcycles or play violin?

Yes, as a matter of fact, they ride motorcycles.

Because I was wondering where the name Suzuki came from and the two things I think of are Suzuki motorcycles and the Suzuki method

of teaching string instruments.

Well, one of the players of the Cubs last name was Suzuki last night.

But I don't think they're Brewer's fans, so I'm not sure.

That's a good question.

I think they rescued it.

I think it was like a rescue cat.

So maybe the cat was already named.

I don't know.

It also, you know, turns out it is a common name outside of America.

Probably.

this bill that uh being just passed out of committee today to bipartisan vote to help veterans to help reopen these shelters for under housed and homeless veterans in Wisconsin the funding was taken away in the state budget and now they're trying to to fix that passed out of committee bipartisan vote congrats

on both political sides for that, but now we await to see whether Senate Majority Leader Devin Lemahue and Senate President Mary Floskowski, both Republicans, allow this bill to come to a vote.

I usually talk to her people that, and they actually know my voice and...

because I spoke to them numerous times and I actually did leave a respect I talked to a member of LaMahieu staff and encouraged them to actually get this bill to the floor and I was in fact kept it very short and and just to thank you and going up because I I don't really think too highly of Senator LaMahieu but hopefully this will serve for our veterans because it would discuss me as I see all these commercials on television you know like asking for money for taking care of our veterans and

I'm wondering why the hell we're not taking care of them at the federal level.

I mean, that should be part of the contract, a contract with our veterans.

When they came back so wounded, and wounded at all, that they should actually be taken care of by our federal government, because they received those wounds in the service of our country, and it is just disgusting.

Our government is not providing for those people.

You know that when we have a man like Donald Trump, we didn't serve.

Yeah, that served only himself during

Yeah, no, I I agree Mark and also we didn't we actually touched on it maybe yesterday, but both Trump and Secretary of Defense Hank Seth over the weekend.

We're talking to Sailors in the United States Navy and making it overtly partisan political which I just find It's just doesn't matter whether it's Republican or president of Democratic presidents in the past.

That's just never done

This don't do it.

And the fact that they politicized it is sick and I agree with you that we have to find a way, a bipartisan way forward here in Wisconsin to pass SB 411.

Do what Mark did.

Call your state senator.

And then call the Senate Majority Leader, which I don't say this as someone who worked for a Senate Majority Leader.

I don't say this too often because it's not often super effective.

But the reason I think it could be this time is because it has bipartisan support.

And I think that that is going to put more pressure on Lemmy Hue and Senate President Floskowski.

Both Republicans, but the fact that they have a Republican senator and an Andre Jacques, which of course we've we've we've had our time of making fun of the senator Up there from Dork County, but you know what on this one in all seriousness?

I want to commend senator Andre Jacques Republican a new Franken for for sponsoring co-sponsoring this bill because it's really really important and I think that we can take in my opinion we should be looking to a guy like

state represent, state representative, Ahmad Rivera Wagner, who's been on this show, Democrat from the Green Bay area.

That's the model.

He's come on this show and said, oh, look, I am a proud Democrat, but if I can help out a housing in this state, I'll, I'll go across party lines to do it.

And so the same with this, I may disagree with Senator Andre Jacques on a lot of things, but hey, if he can get.

Senate bill 411 through I don't care who gets the credit for it And I hope that you don't either so call your state senator or the state Senate majority leader or the state senator president and Tell them to get Senate bill 411

on the floor and let's

get this done for our veterans.

Can you imagine if both of these housing initiatives go through?

That would be incredible.

And I think it could be the start of a more localized bipartisan push.

Well said, and it might give people some hope.

Hey, you know what?

While the state, the federal government is shut down out in Washington and they can't seem to get anything done.

Hey,

In Wisconsin, we're not always going to agree, but maybe we can actually get something done.

Yeah, as Representative Rivera-Wagner said, what he said is not an exact quote, but paraphrase.

You'd be surprised how much possibility there is and how much can actually get done when instead of fighting for your party, you put people's needs as the centerpiece.

Yeah, absolutely.

Hard shell tacos or soft tacos?

What's worse Tyler in beautiful Wisconsin Rapids listening on WF HR says me amigo John Put a hard shell at a soft shell together and said Bravo That makes your question moot now that was that something that like a Taco Bell for a while.

I mean it probably still is I'm not familiar exactly, but I feel like what they had was

I don't remember the order if it's hard on the outside or soft on the outside, but in between the two was a layer of cheese.

It was the new Taco Bell double wrapped taco.

But soft shell, that's the most tacos I've ever eaten, by the way, in one sitting.

But soft shell tacos, definitely worse.

First of all, most soft shells are flour shells, not gluten-free or glutton-free, as I am supposed to be.

And then,

Soft shells are just definitely messy, and messy doesn't go for this blind man.

I'm already messy enough.

I'm already coming home with food all over my shirt.

Yeah.

So, uh, 16 hard shell tacos for me.

PJ also brings up Taco Bell's Crunchwrap before we talked about that they have they had or have some kind of taco where it is both a hard and soft shell with cheese in between.

Of course, there's also the Crunchwrap.

which is basically one giant nacho with taco stuff on it, wrapped up as though it were a flat burrito.

Joseph, watching on YouTube says hardshell tacos are worse.

They remind me of the old El Paso taco kits my mom would buy at Pigly Wiggly.

Also, they shattered and made a mess.

This may be, so far, my favorite comment of the day, because I can't tell you growing up as a kid in Richland Center,

This was a staple.

This was as Mexican as it got growing up as a kid in the 70s and 80s because that was it, right?

I mean, we had a Piggly Wiggly, we had Bernsteads, we had Super Value.

Um, and yeah, these old little parcel taco kits where you had the hard shell taco, you had a little can, uh, a tin can of taco sauce and some packet of seasoning.

And so you would make ground beef and then you put the seasoning on it and you would take the tacos out and put it on a tray in the oven to warm them up and you'd have a taco kit.

And that's all we knew growing up.

And, and then, and look.

By the way, there's nothing wrong with that.

And occasionally I still enjoy it just for the nostalgia of it.

But yeah, they ultimately just kind of the crumbled.

So that was that was always difficult.

But that that that's great, Joseph.

A hard shell always breaks apart and can't hold as much.

My wife agrees, but she would not call me someone who is neat.

What's worse?

Well, actually, it depends if you're talking about corn shells or flower shells.

Some places make the soft gels with actually floured tortillas.

Correct, yeah.

And they are much worse for you than a corn one.

I know.

Because they have a corn tortilla has 2% of your daily sodium rash and where a flour one has 30%.

Now that's a big huge jump in sodium if you have any health issues and if you scroll all the way down the line flower tortillas are on the bad side versus corn ones.

But once in a while I can't resist a tostada.

All right, I'll aim up against the clock.

I appreciate the call very much as I'm as quickly a hard shell or soft shell.

I have to agree with what the majority of people are saying that hard shell tacos are worse.

I do love a good corn soft shell though.

I will put out there, but hard shell tacos, they get so messy, they shatter, they explode.

I agree that people are saying like, you know, if you can wrap it up with more stuff in it, if it's a soft shell.

Yeah, I, uh, I like both, but I think for the reason stated soft shell is just easier to eat for me, but I'm not, I'm not a hater on the hard shell taco.

Before we get out of here today, I'm going to talk a little bit more about what's happening in the Wisconsin.

I know it's like a year.

almost a year out here from the general election.

We're past the primary for Wisconsin.

We'll go and choose a nominee for the Democratic Republican Party on the governor's race.

But there was some news.

We talked about it earlier with Brittany Carloni from WisconsinWatch.org.

Josh Call is, is out of the governor's race.

He can run for reelection as AG and update you on Tom Tiffany here, some things that he's doing.

According to Dan Bice at the Journal Central why that's important gonna get to that in a minute But I would be remiss if I didn't take just a couple of minutes here to Recognize what this day October 7th means to many listeners to many people around the world and this is from the Associated Press News here this afternoon Thousands of people gathered in southern Israel today to mourn the dead as the nation marked

two years since Hamas's October 7 attack plunged the region into a devastating war while Israel and Hamas hold indirect talks in Egypt.

The main memorial is being organized by the bereaved families separate from the ceremony the government will hold on the anniversary next week according to the Hebrew calendar.

The split reflects deep divisions

over Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's leadership, which many blame for the failure to secure a ceasefire that would free the remaining living hostages held by the militants.

In the Gaza Strip, where Israel's retaliatory offensive has killed tens of thousands of people and raised entire towns and cities, those who can are fleeing another Israeli invasion.

of Gaza City while others are sheltering in place.

Many are unable to make the arduous and costly trip south.

Of course, October 7th, two years since thousands of Hamas-led militants, terrorists poured into southern Israel after a surprise barrage of rockets storming army bases, farming communities, and outdoor music festival.

Hamas killed some 1,200 people and abducted 250 others, most of whom have since been released in ceasefires or other deals.

48 persons are known to remain inside Gaza who are considered hostages.

The latest developments, of course, President Trump claims to have a plan.

has received wide international backing and raised hopes for an end to the devastating war.

Many uncertainties remain, including the disarmament of Hamas, a key Israeli demand, and the future governance of Gaza.

Look, I'm not here to solve world international issues here.

And if you've kind of noticed, it's been somewhat of a...

deliberate thing on my part to step away a little bit from doing international news every day, because I just think that this program, me in particular, are best suited to bringing stories that are Wisconsin focused, or at least through a Wisconsin lens, and was somewhat on the national scene.

Not that we've never, I mean, when Trivia Olsen comes on here, we talk about Ukraine, we've talked about Gaza, we've talked about things happening around the world.

It's important.

But the focus of this show by a large day in and day out is more a Wisconsin face or focus show.

I don't claim to have all the answers on this, folks.

But I hope that we could all take a moment today because for Israel, this was their 9-11, October 7th.

And over 1,200 people murdered brutally by Hamas who are terrorists, full stop.

It can also be true, as noted in the Associated Press article, that Israel, in particular, Benjamin Netanyahu's response, has been horrific as well.

And there are thousands, tens of thousands of innocent people in Gaza who have been killed and murdered as well.

And I would hope that we could all, in a moment of humanity, take a moment to pause, reflect, if you're a person of faith, say a prayer for all of those in this region of the world, the innocence.

Those who have lost family members, those who remain captive, those trying to simply survive.

And that, look, any regular listener of this show knows that I am no Trump fan.

But if this one thing like we were talking about earlier if he really is able to somehow broker some sort of Cease fire and get these hostages released.

I'm all for it I'm all for just getting it done and bringing peace to this region of the world It is 41 minutes now past the hour of three o'clock a little bit closer to home

From Dan Bice from the Milwaukee General Assembly, you remember that Dan Bice wrote a column if this is kind of in his wheelhouse He'd fact checked or more than fact checked did some research on good old the the Republican running for Governor I've always forgotten his name's ours

Oh, thank you Bill Barry.

I know

Bill Barion who was a one of these quote-unquote, you know self-made business people I'm not really sure if he was but he campaigned What is the family values that he was he was against in particular support for trans folks in our community and then Dan Bice the journalist for the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel dug around on the digital footprint that Mr. Barion had

and found out that Bill Barion was subscribing to trans porn sites and subscribing to places that were pro-trans and questioned him on this.

Well, that seemed to be hypocritical.

And so Barion's money dried up, but his support dried up, but he said, I'm out, done with the race.

I don't think this is gonna have the same effect, but I think it's important reporting by Dan Weiss today in the Journal Sentinel.

He says, quote,

When you've been in state and federal offices for as long as U.S.

Representative Tom Tiffany, it's impossible to erase your political past, but you can certainly try.

Sure.

So basically, it is an archive of many, not all, websites on the Internet that as a website gets changed, people can upload...

essentially a capture, a snapshot of what it's like.

And so you can be like, what did the front page of YouTube look like on January 3rd of 2010?

And since YouTube is popular, you'll probably be able to find it.

That's a good explanation.

And it's a good reminder for all of us, myself included, when we want to put a hot take out there that, you know, think before you.

push, send or post because once it's out there, it's out there.

It's never really gone in the digital world.

So back to this article by Dan Bice in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel today, the Wayback Machine, as Omar said, preserves snapshots of websites, say that 10 times fast, shows that Tom Tiffany had a website webpage as of September 17th that listed a bunch of hot button issues.

on his positions on them.

That includes abortion, gun rights, immigration, crime, and communist China.

But check tomtiffany.com today and you'll notice that the issues page gone.

Replaced by a list of bland solutions, quote unquote, such as, quote, protect what makes Wisconsin great.

Wait a minute, time out.

Tom Tiffany has co-opted our our on-the-road slogan of what makes Wisconsin great

our 17th floor will be in contact Tom well 12th, but okay Oh, that's right 17th floor

So Tom Tiffany has a page protect what makes Wisconsin great and quote lower cost for every Wisconsin I unquote the news solutions page makes not surprising no mention

of guns, one mention of immigration in China, and nothing on the deficit or abortion.

But here's what's interesting, Vice-Rites, about this.

Tiffany and his team made the switch in the days leading up to his announcement on September 23rd that he is running for Republican for Wisconsin Governor in 2026.

Tiffany, age 67,

is now the highest profile Republican in the contest.

Washington County executive, Josh Showman, is on the campaign trail.

And as we said, Bill Berrien dropped out.

Eight Democrats have announced their plans to run for governor this far, but we told you he's reporting by fellow Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reporter, Molly Beck, spoke to former Lieutenant Governor and US Senate candidate, Mandela Barnes, who's saying he's going to have an announcement soon and he's very seriously looking at it.

I find this really interesting, I guess, as a political nerd, and I tease this as they say a little earlier, so here's my explanation.

Here's why I think this is going to help put Democrats in a hole, be a little problematic, because if Tom Tiffany is essentially centralizing, that's not a word, I know, but if he's making his campaign website more centrist and not as MAGA,

Not as right wing.

That tells me a couple of things as a former Republican who left the party in 2011 and ran a lot of races.

I don't think you're going to see another high-profile Republican get in the race.

I don't think Tommy Thompson is gonna throw his hat into the ring.

And I think that most likely by the end of the calendar year, you will see Donald Trump endorse Tom Tiffany and then it's all over.

So the Republican race is essentially done.

It's going to be Tom Tiffany, in my opinion.

On the Democratic side, you're getting more people and more people, and now it looks like maybe at least another one in Mandela Barnes.

And so they're going to have to distinguish themselves to win the Democratic primary.

And we saw we've had David Crowley on this program, the Milwaukee County executive, when he announced

Very competent guy very established guy as Milwaukee County executive, but here now today He rolls out as one of his main campaign platforms for governor to repeal the defense of marriage act in Wisconsin better known as DOMA which limited Technical official marriage in Wisconsin to one man and one woman.

Well, that was it's still in the books technically

But the Supreme Court decision of US Supreme Court decision of Oberfeld basically said marriage equality is the law of the land and so and so County Executive Crowley is saying hey You know, we want to take this archaic law off the books in Wisconsin as a gay person.

I admire him Great But if I were on his political team, which I'm not

Regardless of my own personal situation, I would say this is the wrong move.

Because I think a lot of people who've never been in the political arena, they don't understand that a political campaign is not always necessarily an advocacy campaign.
