The Todd Allbaugh Show · Mon Oct 6, 2025

Narrator

From the Civic Media World Headquarters in Madison, Wisconsin, it's the Todd Alba Show.

And now, pursuing truth wherever it may lead, here's your host, Todd Alba.

Across

Todd Alba

Wisconsin on the Civic Media radio network and streaming worldwide on the Civic Media app,

Good afternoon, everybody.

Todd Albault, along with Mr. Aaron Zomers, our producer and engineer.

It is six minutes past the hour of two o'clock on this Monday, back to work and back to school.

October 6, 2025.

It is a great day to be in Wisconsinite.

Welcome, everybody, to the World Headquarters, downtown Madison, at the crossroads of State Street and Fairchild.

On an overcast day, finally, Zomers feels more like fall.

Aaron Zomers

Finally, and I'm very grateful for it.

You're wearing long pants today.

I am, and it's nice.

I like to be able to wear pants if I so choose.

Todd Alba

Well, yes, we appreciate that.

Beautiful weekend in Wisconsin.

Warm weather, great opportunities to be out and about.

We're going to wait until hour two.

I'll tell you more about my weekend.

very humbled, very honored, very nice weekend back in Richland Center.

It was a big weekend.

The UW-Richland Alumni Association had their gathering, which I was a part of more of that later.

It was also Richland, my alma mater, Richland Center High School homecoming.

And it was the Center Color Fest, formerly known as the Center Color Fiesta, the Bacannian of Lights Parade.

And it was the open house of Oakwood Fruit Farm, one of our great sponsors here at Civic Media.

And I went up there more on this later.

I brought you back, Zobbers and Apple, as well as one for Luke Mathers and myself here.

They have a new varietal they're carrying at Oakwood Fruit Farm.

Learned all about it from Steve Lewis, one of the, one of the owners up there at Oakwood.

And it's it's absolutely fantastic.

And what it's called rave rave

Aaron Zomers

rave

Todd Alba

rave the rave apple also known as first kiss.

How about that?

Aaron Zomers

Spicy.

Todd Alba

So yeah, well, and we're going to talk more about that with our guest here.

We continue our Mondays with Matt Nair.

segment coming up at 235 today, our friend and colleague and co-host of Matt Nair on air, the one, the only, the legendary Jane Matt Nair.

It's going to be here.

We'll talk, what is Jane?

Is she an orchard kind of person in the fall?

And if so, what are some of her favorite activities?

Also going to talk about big story we covered last week continues this military raid.

I'm not sure what else you would call it at an apartment complex.

on the south side of Chicago and the lack of continuing ongoing coverage on the national scene.

We talked about the great local reporting by ABC channel seven in Chicago.

And now we're going to maybe play a clip of this later on new reporting from CBS local channel in Chicago.

But the national news media continues to either just not talk about it or downplay it.

We'll get Jane's thoughts on that.

And also going to find out where Jane McNair was back in 1982 as she was working in Milwaukee media and what the vibe was in the city of Milwaukee because that's where we're going to start today.

Oh, by the way, we have a what's worse an hour number two.

And we're going to tell you some winners of our green and gold text to win contest that wrapped up on Friday.

But I want to start if you're watching on YouTube, Facebook, Twitter and the like.

You see that I am decked out in my October baseball brew crew postseason t-shirt.

Got the crew hat on and yes, the number eight, Bob Uker jersey because baseball is a very traditional, suspicious, superstitious sport.

And so I thought, well, we did this on Friday and the crew, not just one, but they've got a huge win over the Cubs on Saturday.

And so I'm like, well, you got to repeat that.

The Brewers play game two of the National League Divisional Series tonight in Milwaukee at Amfam Field.

Broadcast starts at 7 30 on many of our stations across civic media.

First pitch from Amfam Field just after eight o'clock local time in Milwaukee.

You can hear it live over the air on W R C E and Richland Center W ISS in Oshkosh W C Q M in Park Falls and on WBZ H and beautiful Hayward, Wisconsin Remember we can't stream it because major league baseball owns these streaming rights, but you can hear it live over the air What a game it was on Saturday.

I had this event for

the UW Richland Alumni Foundation on on late into the morning, Saturday and early afternoon.

So we didn't get back to mom's house until into the second inning.

And I turned it on.

There's the crew up eight to one.

Aaron Zomers

Yeah.

Todd Alba

And I'm like, what the heck happened?

It was it was a pounding.

By the Brewers on the Cubs what a way to start this best of five game series as we said that very important game number two Coming up tonight want to play you a little audio catch you up courtesy of our great sports reporter Mike Clemens who is there gave some great live reporting during the game over his social media and continues to do Yeoman's work for this network in bringing you some of the best cuts around

This is former Milwaukee Brewer manager Craig council now the manager for the Chicago Cubs on the first loss of the cubbies

Reporter Questioner

Greg obviously one loss and not more than one loss, but just given how it went Does it change your view of the series at all?

Craig Counsell (Chicago Cubs Manager)

Well, I mean we're down one nothing nothing nothing else changes besides that.

It's one nothing.

I don't think

You know I'm not sure we'd manage the game game differently on Monday up one nothing down one nothing So it I'm not sure it does we just we made it harder for ourselves.

We got to win three out of four now They got to win two out of four.

That's it

Todd Alba

manager the Cubs Craig counsel Then he was asked about his clubhouse's reaction how the Cubs handle this

Devastating loss in game.

I'm sorry.

I'm chuckley by get a big kick out of this you understand as a as a brewers fan Here's counsel on the clubhouse reaction to the loss on Saturday,

Craig Counsell (Chicago Cubs Manager)

you know like the game got away from us early So it's it's not like it did right it got away from us.

So And it's a loss and you kind of you move on from it quickly There's no penalty there's no it's it's one loss.

It's no doesn't count for more how you lose we didn't lose well, but

sometimes, you know, not, you know, a close game could have cost us some pitching type stuff too.

So we lost, you move on, that's how the club all fell.

Todd Alba

Craig Council after the loss by the Cubs on Saturday.

Zombers, did you get a chance to listen or watch any of the game on Saturday?

Aaron Zomers

I was watching it.

I watched the whole thing on, I think TNT is what it was on.

Yes, on TNT.

Which, let me tell you, I should have muted it and put on the radio as the audio because they were.

They were also making inaccurate announcements.

They'd be like, all right, it's bottom of this inning.

The score is five and one.

And they're like, no, it's eight and one.

How are you three behind?

Todd Alba

The game was great, though.

The game was great.

I don't think the television crew for TNT baseball is not their main action.

I believe that is the case.

SPEAKER_??

Yeah.

Todd Alba

It was it was fantastic.

The only bad thing if you want to say a concerning thing for the Brewers really on Saturday was Jackson Cheerio.

Correct me if I'm wrong, Zabers.

I think Jackson Cheerio had three hits by the second or third inning and set a record and got another hit is third hit.

I think it was any any in the first inning he rounded.

I think second base or first base and kind of had a weird.

tweak it is in the way it was running.

And that may have affected his hamstring.

If you remember, he sat out for about a month during the regular season.

Sure, you did with a hamstring injury and those, they call it soft tissue injuries can be a real bear to recover from, but he did, came back and, and then he got this third hit.

I think it was, and he ran it out, was safe at first base, but came up a little gimpy and Murph and the.

uh, athletic trainer came out and checked on him and you could read Churio's lips and he said, I'm fine.

Well, they took him out anyway and, and they went in and did an MRI, uh, was pretty nervous, pretty nervous after the game.

It sounded like Murph, Murph used the word, I believe this could keyword could be devastating for him, but.

It turns out that for the MRI and Clemens had reporting on this that as of yesterday, Cheerio was in uniform and doing some light base running.

And now here today, here's manager of the Brewers, Pat Murphy, updating us on Jackson Cheerio.

Pat Murphy (Milwaukee Brewers Manager)

The MRI came back and we still, it's inconclusive and it's not a serious hamstring strain.

But it's not necessarily something that won't limit him.

So we're going to kind of see how he feels.

He's going to go through some testing.

And if he feels anything, we're going to shut it down.

Pat Murphy

Todd Alba

on, I think that's right approach.

You try, but you don't, you don't want to, I think it's better to use him sparingly, especially in today's game, if at all, and let him recoup a little bit.

You don't want to tear the thing or injured to the point where he can't play at all.

for the rest of the postseason.

So, look, I mean, they did really well.

I mean, maybe not as well without Cheerio, but they found a way to win without him.

So, but certainly concerning for the Brewers.

Aaron Zomers

Definitely.

But I would much rather see him later in the season than see him a little bit today and then not at all.

Todd Alba

Yeah, absolutely.

Terry and Wasall, the CWXCL, by the way, we're gonna be doing this show next week from beautiful...

WXCO, Bull Falls Radio.

They're having a big open house on Thursday.

We're going to broadcast the show live from WXCO in Warsaw.

So come down and see us more of that later.

Terry, listening up here at Warsaw, says it was on TBS.

I think it was the TBS crew, but boy, unless I was watching it on YouTube, but I thought it came across on TNT on my channel.

So

Aaron Zomers

it's

Todd Alba

all part of Turner Broadcasting.

Aaron Zomers

Yeah, what I remember seeing and hearing.

Um, it's had the TNT logo on the bug.

Oh, when they were talking, they were saying, oh, TBS.

Todd Alba

It's all, it's all a big glomer.

But thank you, Terry, for keeping me honest.

I appreciate that.

Um, here's Pat Murphy again, talking about the pitching for today.

Uh, Quinn Priestor have been scheduled, but here's Murph saying who's going to go to the mowing for the crew today.

Reporter Questioner

Murph, what are your pitching plans?

Pat Murphy (Milwaukee Brewers Manager)

Yeah, Ashby's going to start.

Um, uh, no, no, I don't, I don't know if Priestor will be next.

I really don't keep it a cagey

Todd Alba

Murph is.

I love that.

Confusing Craig Council a little bit, keeping them off guard, off kilter.

So as Aaron Ashby on the mound tonight for the crew again, pregame on many of our fine stations gets underway at seven thirty first pitch from Amfam just after eight o'clock hit out wait.

It's going to be fantastic.

And when we need some good news in these times, we need a distraction.

from what can be a little overwhelming news and something that brings us together.

And I was in Richland County a lot this weekend, spent a little time here in Madison on Friday night.

People are pumped.

I walked by, got some Wonder State coffee this morning on the square.

I'm wearing this shirt by October Baseball.

Brew Crew shirt and the construction guys working on the new historical center up here on the square where the guys yells out, let's go Brewers.

I

Aaron Zomers

have my hands full so I could clap.

Just like I just did right now.

Todd Alba

But yeah, but people are people are excited.

People are into it.

And I really have time later will play this clip I've got of the Brewers organization went up to several of the players before the game Saturday and said, hey, what's the vibe?

And they all answered it.

And they seemed pretty loose in a good way.

Not a cocky way, but just like, hey, we got this.

And I think that was one of the biggest concerns coming into Saturday's game.

Were they going to be tense?

Were they going to be too tight, too wild and too tight?

But boy, they came out loose, ready to go, and ready to hit.

Pat Murphy was asked another question at the post game.

Press conference on Saturday.

Mike Clemens was there.

We're gonna play this for you.

You're not gonna want to miss it because he uses one of my favorite expressions.

Part of which had to be bleeped out.

We'll play it for you after this, Pat Murphy, with some censored material on the Civic Media Radio Network.

Commercial jingle

Come see what's brewing.

Come see what the good times are.

Come see what the brewers are doing.

Come monitor a superstar.

Be a believer in bluer fever.

It's fun to join in the cheering.

Stomp your feet, clap your hands.

You're part of the team sitting in the stands.

Todd (host)

That's right.

Catch it.

It's Brewer Fever.

Welcome back to the title ball show on the Pacific media running at work.

23 now past the hour of two o'clock song made famous back in 1982 when the Brewers made that historic World Series run came up just a bit outside.

By the way, that great film just about outside the store, the 82 Brewers, our friends, Kelly Collins, Sean Hannish, Paul Geconi, Barry.

Super fantastic film still available and available at new places including to be if you watch Stream on to be it's available on there now in addition to Roku with a Roku channel Can can either rent it or buy it on Apple TV Amazon Prime and of course the DVD if you haven't seen it yet watch it because

It's we're gonna ask Jane McNair a friend and colleague of a co-host of Matt Nair on air after 230 because she was working in the Milwaukee market on radio in 1982 could ask her I think I shouldn't say that I think it she was in the Milwaukee market But we'll ask her what the vibe was in the media and otherwise.

I have not felt even though I know the Brewers went to the NC LS in 2018 now.

It's a big follower of that

lost game seven, of course, to the Dodgers, but I don't know.

I don't know what it is.

For me, I think it's just the buy-in of the players and the fact there are so many of, as they call themselves, average Joe's on this team.

It makes it more exciting than others.

Unnamed co-host

For me, too.

And I've said it multiple times.

I'll say it again.

It's the attitude of all the players and the whole team and Murphy and everybody.

It's just, you know, we're going to do our best.

We're going to take ourselves seriously.

We got this, but not in a cocky way.

And, you know, honest and reflective the whole way through, like, yep, that wasn't my best.

Here's how I can fix it tomorrow.

Todd (host)

Yeah, no, they had the Ted Lassel thing.

I can have a memory of a goldfish.

Yeah, just be a goldfish.

All right.

So here's I get our great sports reporter, Mike Clemens.

Nobody's covering this that's run by the Brewers better than our own Mike Clemens.

We're so fortunate to have him.

He brings us a cut.

Brewers manager Pat Murphy after after the game on Saturday.

The reporter asked him, I'm sure it was Murphy or Clemens or somebody else asks him Murphy about the handshake and why he doesn't do it and what's going on here.

This is beautiful golden, as they say.

Here's the interview or part of this interview from Saturday of Pet Murphy.

Mike Clemens (sports reporter)

When they do the pregame chalk lineups, why don't you shake your players hands?

When we do the pregame, you line up on the first baseline.

Pat Murphy (Brewers manager)

Yeah,

Mike Clemens (sports reporter)

all the players come right down they give their teammates high fives and then you stare Blake Perkins in the eye and don't shake his hand shake his hand.

Why do you do that?

Pat Murphy (Brewers manager)

It's tradition Yeah, it's been a tradition.

I've done it for 10 years now Whenever we've had introductions.

I just think it's I call it happy horse The newer I mean it's a bunch of happy horse Sounds better when I use the other word, but I'm not gonna use it because I don't use that kind of language

public setting.

But it's just like a lot of happy horseshit, you know what I mean?

Like you just keep, we got a lot of this, you know, and then you go down the line and shake their hands and then they go warm up and then they come in the dugout and you shake their hands and you do some crazy handshake with them, you know what I mean?

And I'm like, this is a lot of happy horseshit, let's play the game.

And it's kind of a tradition and then if you remember way back, I don't know what year, Arcea like punched me really hard in the chest, almost knocked me down.

Yeah, he's trying to really kind of doing that.

But he knows that he's been here since since then.

So some players like Vaughn was like so sincere.

He didn't know it.

Some guys forget.

But yes, I never go down and shake their hands.

I just go right to the line.

I didn't know you noticed.

I didn't think anybody noticed.

Todd (host)

See, yet another reason I love Pat Murphy because he's not going to participate in that happy horse.

Unnamed co-host

Hockey stuff.

Todd (host)

He tried so hard to not say it.

It's one of my favorite terms to describe just, you know, ridiculousness.

It's just a bunch of horse.

Anyway, I thought that was, I thought that was great.

Unnamed co-host

I think it's especially great because the first time he paused so long.

Right.

And then he was trying so hard.

He's like, I'm not going to say that.

I don't say it in public.

And then he just said it twice.

Todd (host)

Because it doesn't have the same effect if you don't use the full word.

Anyway, again, the crew planned tonight pregame show at 7 30 across many of our stations.

First pitch that's after eight o'clock was Jane McNair here in a few minutes where she was back in 1982 or she was in the industry where she was working to get her memories on that and more serious news of the day as well.

Terry and cross planes listening on WM DX off the text line says, Todd, I walked past a lady with a cub shirt on and told her good luck tonight.

And she waved at me.

And I said, but no, not really.

No, I don't know.

We have all the details here.

Did she give you a one-fingered wave back?

Terry, is that why you got snarky with her?

Because there's no reason to amp this up.

We can be pleasant to each other, you know, unless she was a one-finger wave at him.

Right.

So I'm not sure we know the full details on that.

Alice in Cudahay.

Now, this is a beautiful.

She sends us on.

She is her front door and she has a Brewer's jersey on number 15 there.

And this is fantastic.

Cecil Cooper's Jersey and Cecil Cooper is throwing out one of the first pitches tonight I believe along with Bob Euker Jr.

And there was one of the player escaping my memory right now, but that's fantastic.

Allison Cudahay listening to us on WAUK has got that and also she says it's a picture of herself in a really cool World Series 1982 bucket hat.

Unnamed co-host

That's great.

Todd (host)

How about that?

Alice, thank you so much for your listenership and beautiful cut of hay on W. A. U. K. And way to way to represent and get ready for Brewer fever tonight on many of our fine stations.

So exciting.

Brewer's fever ketchup, little farm news from Pam Yankee Midwest Farm Report.

And then come on back.

You're not going to want to miss it.

Our own Jane McNair.

Where was she in 82?

What was the vibe like?

And also, a little more serious news on the national news, ignoring the truth of what's going on in this country.

Jane McNair is next.

Don't miss it on the Civic Media Radio Network.

from the stages of Milwaukee Riverside Theater, a starring role by our own Jane McNair and Phantom of the Opera.

Welcome back.

Well done, Mr. Zomers.

Wow, that's great.

Welcome back to the All Balls show on the Civic Media Ready Network.

35 minutes now past the hour of two o'clock on this Monday, October 6th.

Yes, applause.

for Xamarin's, for dialing up little Phantom of the Opera, for those watching on the stream on YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, ex, Twix, whichever way you want to call it.

Jane, from a lovely home, has a lovely candelabra behind her, and I said it looks a little Phantom of the Opera-ish, and so that's why Xamarin's.

And of course, Jane and I are big fans of musicals, so.

We are.

Yes, we are.

You can hear every morning along with her co-host Greg Bach on Matt and Air on air across many of these fine stations of the Civic Media Ready Network from 9 until 11, the one, the only, the legendary Jane Matt and Air.

Jane, how are

Jane McNair (host)

you?

I am excellent,

Todd (host)

my friend.

How about yourself?

I've got Brewer Fever.

As you can see, I got my Uker jersey up.

I got my October baseball shirt, my hat on.

I'm set to go.

You know, I am not felt this way since since 82 when the Brewers went to the World Series, of course, came up just a bit outside, as they say, against the Cardinals.

Jane, you are an institution of Southeast Wisconsin.

You're a legend in Milwaukee Broadcasting and Wisconsin Broadcasting, really.

Were you on the air?

Were you in the media, as they say?

And if so, where were you working at when the Brewers did this?

Well, not to the World Series yet, but well,

Jane McNair (host)

they got this kind of fever last time.

Well, Todd, in 1982, I hadn't been born yet.

I forgot, I apologize.

I apologize.

Yes, I still, you know, yeah.

So, you know, I started my career in 1981, but my very first job was in New Olm, Minnesota at KNUJ AM Radio, and then we launched

a an FN station.

One other person and I launched the rock station of the area of KXLP.

And so I was, I didn't move until back to Milwaukee, the Milwaukee area, southeast of Wisconsin until 1984.

But

Todd (host)

in

Jane McNair (host)

1982, when I was working at that radio station, I was also involved in the community theater.

And we had rehearsals nights that the Brewers were playing.

So the show was the passion of Dracula.

I was Mina anyway, that's a completely side thing I would run back and forth because there was a bar across the street that had the game on and I would run back and forth and that was the game that we lost and and that Ended it, but I mean it was great.

It was very exciting.

I had gone to the Brewers a neighbor's father

Mike Cena used to take Liz and I to the Brewer's games when I was about nine and 10 at the Old County Stadium.

Yeah.

And so, yes, it was fabulous and very exciting, but I was not in cheese land at that time.

Todd (host)

But you were behind the mic and doing what you always do, which is entertain and inform people.

And that's great.

And I just think that, I mean, what's it like you live in Milwaukee?

Can you tell just?

going to grocery stores and stuff.

Is there kind of a vibe?

Do you see more people wearing brewery stuff?

Do people seem excited about this living there in the city?

Jane McNair (host)

Oh, without a doubt.

Without a doubt.

There are people who have more.

I've never seen.

Well, and it's nice because everyone's been getting this stuff for Christmas for such a long time.

Now you can wear all of the gear that you have accumulated over the years.

And no, absolutely.

There's a lot of excitement, a lot of hope.

If you're like Greg, it's hope tempered by trepidation and fear.

And I'm kidding.

No, I

Todd (host)

listened.

I was listening.

I sound loud.

I'm like, Greg, cheer up.

They won the first game.

Jane McNair (host)

But there's another game, Todd.

There's more games.

And I respect that too, you know?

It's not like Brewer's fans haven't had their hearts broken before.

But it's wonderful to see this team get this far and enjoy the experience.

Todd (host)

Yeah, it really is.

It's something special.

Again, you can hear the the pregame show starting at 730, the first pitch just after eight o'clock on many of our great stations, including RCE and Richland Center, ISS in Oshkosh, CQM in Park Falls and WBZH in Hayward over the air, terrestrial broadcasting, as they say.

So so stay tuned for that.

And hopefully we could talk about another another win tomorrow.

So we shall we shall see.

They're taking the train.

There's a train going from Milwaukee to Chicago for the.

Wednesday game at Wrigley.

How fun would that be, Jane, to be on that?

Jane McNair (host)

And that is such a brilliant idea.

It is.

Because anybody who drives the stretch between Milwaukee and Chicago, that stretch of 94, can be very, very, very slow.

And I think that's really smart.

And I'm sure a lot of people are going to be traveling that way rather than driving, just trying to find a place to

Todd (host)

park.

SPEAKER_??

Yeah.

Jane McNair (host)

It's going to be, it's going to be crazy.

It's going

Todd (host)

to be fun and hopefully get a win today and wrap it up.

Maybe at Wrigley on Wednesday, we shall see.

We're talking with Jay McNair, co-host of McNair on air every morning from nine until 11 here on the Civic Media Ready Network.

Jay, we were up in, did a couple of shows in, in Seanal last week and we're sitting up there and coming, came across my feed.

And at first I'm like,

Really is this and I had to do a little checking and here and we spent about 40 minutes last week What was it somers on on Wednesday show?

I think yeah Wednesday show on this that the United States Homeland Department Homeland Security and ICE did this raid on an apartment complex in South Chicago Starting off with a Black Hawk helicopter and then dragging people some half-clothed

without warrants, breaking in doors, zip tying children, separating people by the pigment of their skin, many of whom were American citizens.

And that morning, as I often do, I watch CBS this morning and there was no mention of this and no mention of it on on CNN.

And we spent 40 minutes of it on it.

I know you and Greg now have talked about it other places on this network, but.

What is your view of this, Jane?

As someone who's been in broadcasting for a long time and you know this industry better than anybody that I've known, what do you make of this, of this lack of national attention versus ABC7 in Chicago, which is the story that we used, which was phenomenal reporting?

Jane McNair (host)

Well, thank goodness that they still have that media outlet in Chicago where they have local reporters on the ground.

You know, as well as I do, Todd, that major mainstream media has been changing for a very, very long time.

And broadcast television, specifically CBS, ABC, NBC, depend on advertisers.

And the whole advertising model has changed.

And we've seen more local outlets get decimated.

Now, because so many of our large media companies are owned by big corporations with people who do seem to be especially friendly with this administration, that's how you control things.

Controlling information and the information people see, that is crucial and frightening.

And, but I think the media has been letting us down for the last 10 years.

I think we have, we have never talked seriously.

And Greg and I just talked about this last week.

Our current president is not well and does not appear coherent very frequently now in public in speeches.

And I don't hear that talked about at all.

You and I talked about this last week.

There is so much information.

There are so many stories on a daily basis.

The judge's home in South Carolina that was burned to the ground.

Did you see that?

Yeah.

And quite frankly, when I first saw that, I had to double check to make sure that the story was not AI generated.

Right.

Because there is so much.

there is so much to wade through.

But I do think that legacy media has abandoned their responsibilities a long time ago.

And for

Todd (host)

those that might not have heard, Stephen Miller, the Trump administration came out against a judge in Oregon, I believe, who had a temporary restraining order on President Trump calling up

National Guard troops from California to go to Oregon, to Portland, and Stephen Miller came out and started attacking that judge.

And hours later, this judge on the East Coast House was burned down.

Jane McNair (host)

Well, and the judge on the East Coast had ruled against the Trump administration when they were trying to get a hold of voter records.

Yes.

And she was, they were targeted because of that.

Again, we'll see, you know, there's a lot of speculation there.

And that's another hesitation.

Oh, it's very dangerous.

It's very dangerous.

And I also think that the level of rhetoric coming from Stephen Miller.

Now the Democrats are satanic.

And I mean, the president said in front of a large number of military people over the weekend, they have to get rid of the net on their shoulder, which are Democrats.

Todd (host)

Speaking to active duty Navy sailors.

Yes, and we know we've never seen that before Jane at least in my lifetime whether I don't care that was George W. Bush or Barack Obama Bill Clinton or Ronald Reagan You didn't see our commander chiefs go before active duty troops and bring in overt partisan politics It just didn't happen until now

Jane McNair (host)

on well until now and the the level of obfuscation the level of

Trying to pretend that this is normal.

I challenge anyone to read a transcript of one of Donald Trump's latest speeches and explain to me what it all means.

Yeah, it's largely a

Todd (host)

word salad.

Jane McNair (host)

It is completely word salad completely off the top of his head and and the fact that the media has not

Spent more time and trying to make it normal.

It is not normal.

It's not nor none of this is normal

Let's let's go

Todd (host)

ahead and let's put a whole lot of time.

But name Barry Weiss might not mean a lot to a lot of people, but she has just been named essentially editor chief of CBS News.

And and she used to be at the Wall Street Journal for a time in the New York Times.

But she started this this thing three years ago, I think, called The Free Press, an online publication.

And and Paramount Skydance just bought it for 150 million.

Not bad if you can get it, Jane.

That's a good startup.

I.

She is friendly to Trumpism and MAGA and she has now been put in charge of CBS News.

Thoughts?

Jane McNair (host)

I think this is actually part of Project 2025, one of the, or actually, if you want me to get really off the rails here, seven mountains, dominionists, and the seven mountains to take control over include the media.

And I do believe that.

Peter Thiel and some of these other larger companies are very much a part of controlling them as much media as humanly possible in order to control the messaging.

Because information is power, knowledge is power.

Yeah, that's what I was taught.

Todd (host)

I think you're right.

And and when both of us were growing up, whether or not you always agreed or not, I think there are you tell me whether you agree with this or not, that whether it was New York Times or the Chicago Tribune.

CBS ABC, there was some sense of certain guardrails that were going to play this down the middle.

We're not going to be overtly bought out by one side or the other.

And those journalistic ethics, Jane, just seem to have disappeared

Jane McNair (host)

nearly.

Oh, without a doubt.

Without a doubt.

The attempt to make it both side is when it is not has destroyed legacy media.

Todd (host)

Jane McNair's gonna come back and talk a little bit about what's coming up on their show for this week, and also, is she an orchard person?

That burning question will be answered after this on the Civic Media Radio Network.

Jane McNair

Maybe you're traversing Highway 29

Todd

or

Jane McNair

Highway 14 in Southwest Wisconsin every morning from 9 to 11.

That's what you're going to feel like when you tune in Jane and Greg on Matt and Air on air.

You're going to feel like a little jazz party.

You understand?

You're going to get some news.

You're going to get some laughs.

You're going to feel better after you listen to Jane and Greg every morning.

So tune in for that.

They won the only incomparable.

Jane Matt and Air joins us live from her beautiful home in an undisclosed part of Milwaukee.

We're happy to have her here.

By the way, Joseph, watching on YouTube, says, Todd and Jane, thank you for highlighting Weiss and the free press.

They are MAGA dressed up in just asking questions, quote unquote,

Todd

drag.

Well, and the other thing that's maddening, quite frankly, are the lack of follow-up questions.

Yeah.

Because...

They are, I'm sure in some instances, if you ask a follow-up question, you'll never get another question.

They'll just cut you off, which again, is not healthy for democracy.

It's not.

Questions are not bad

Jane McNair

things.

And in case you're just joining us, Barry Weiss, who had a career at the Wall Street Journal of New York Times and then started this online publication known as The Free Press about three years ago, CBS are...

Paramount Skydance just bought it for $150 million and named Barry Weiss, editor-in-chief of CBS News.

That's what we're discussing.

By the way, saying Joseph said, just asking questions, drag.

Have you ever been to a drag show, Jane

Todd

McNair?

Jane McNair

a long time ago.

Really?

Yeah.

I feel like my gay card may be revoked at any moment because I'm familiar with the genre and I'm fine with it, but I've never actually been.

So maybe that's our next road show.

Jane and Todd do a drag show, Brunch.

That works for me.

Todd

Jane

Jane McNair

and Todd drag brunch.

That would be a great show.

I think that'd be a lot of fun.

Todd

That would

Jane McNair

work.

No drag show brunches, I don't think, but what's coming up this week

Todd

on Matt and Air on Air?

We do have a busy week tomorrow.

Pat Krightlow is going to be joining us.

Also our friend Pam Yankee, the fabulous farm babe.

You love talking to her.

Civic Media's own award-winning journalist.

And we call her the genie of just about everything.

Terry Barr is going to be joining us for a slice of Wisconsin, a great little feature she does about really interesting things around the state.

Later on this week, Darren Van Ruden is going to join us.

He is the president of the Wisconsin Farmers Association.

And I have a feeling we will be talking about tariffs.

I'm sure you will.

Jane McNair

That's a real thing.

I think I heard Pam I talked in the Midwest Fire Department Park this report this morning and all you've talked about it I know Maggie Dawn's talked about it.

We've talked about our show I believe it's a national mental health awareness for rural and ag producers here in America really really important so I love that you bring on Derek van Roon because he brings a part of this state that's so important to all of us really

Todd

yes and

Jane McNair

I appreciate you guys bringing him on because he's always a great guest I always learned something when I listen

Todd

Well, and that's why what that's what we try to do with our guests quite quite seriously There are so many things.

I don't know Todd.

It's embarrassing which is why we bring on experts who do know and Darren is just like you said, he's a terrific guy We've learned so much about Wisconsin and the industry and how our farmers really get used by all sides Yeah, pretty much

Jane McNair

I thank you for crying.

I think I may have said Derek Darren is the right name.

Darren

Todd

Van Ruden.

All

Jane McNair

right.

It's 56 minutes past the hour here.

Oh, by the way, by the way, neither one of us.

came in as the top dog in the old, uh, green and gold text to win contest.

I have spoken with director of operations, Luke Mathers, uh, and, uh, found out, and you, you talked about this and I couldn't get word, complete agreement.

The whole thing was rigged because they gave Hartman, uh, two, two, uh, words.

And so he beat us both.

Todd

And I, I,

Jane McNair

I don't

Todd

think

Jane McNair

it was

Todd

fair.

I mean, I, I texted you.

I know.

I texted you at the beginning and I said, I'm going to contest this because I am so delighted with how many people were excited.

Exactly.

And entered the contest.

It was great.

And what Greg and I always learned from it, that's why we went to Butternut.

Right.

And that's how we learned about Butternut.

I had never heard of it before.

I loved that it existed and we took a road trip and went there.

So that's one of the great things about...

about the text-to-win contest that we have.

We can tell you

Jane McNair

now, as beneficial Jane teased on her show, apparently the grand prize winner has been contacted.

And we are pleased to announce that Dennis from Minakwa, listing on WCQM, Jane, Greg, and I have been there, is the big grand prize winner of the green and gold contest.

Can we say the words now that the contest is

Todd

over?

Don't.

Jane McNair

Let's not.

Really?

Don't.

I can't.

All right.

Don't.

No.

Jane's giving me the look of do not do this.

Well, I'm on the air with you.

All right.

He's going to a game in November, a football game between Green Bay, yes, Green Bay and Minnesota.

Todd

That I can

Jane McNair

say.

All right.

That's

Todd

what he's

Jane McNair

doing.

Very good.

So congratulations to Dennis from Minakwa, the big grand prize winner in our green and gold text win contest.

Jane and Greg, we're running through other winners today.

We'll do that later as well.

Quick note, you've already gotten two invitations to drag brunches in Wisconsin.

Really?

Well, how about that, Jane?

That'll be our next big thing.

All

Todd

right,

Jane McNair

quickly in the time we have left, are you an orchard

Todd

person, Jane?

Sure, I will orchard.

I love apples.

I love apple pie.

I mean, a well done apple pie is an amazing thing.

Apple crisp is good.

Sure, why not?

Jane McNair

Yeah, well, I was just at Oakwood Fruit Farm in Richland County this weekend, one of our fine sponsors here on Civic Media, and it was a customer appreciation weekend.

It was packed, and I got myself some rave apples.

better known as first kiss.

You have a cross between a honey crisp and something else.

So, Zomers are gonna have those in hour two.

Todd

And so, do you peel them?

Or do you just eat it whole?

Or do you cut it up?

Okay.

Just bite that apple, baby.

Get that

Jane McNair

crunch, that snap.

Enjoy.

Now, we enjoy you, Jane McNair, every morning from nine until 11 o'clock.

Greg Bach, McNair on air.

Thank you, my friend.

We'll see you next Monday.

Thank you so much.

Take care, Zomers.

Todd

All

Jane McNair

right, stay tuned what's worse and Todd takes a bite of an apple in our two of the civic media ready network

Announcer

From the Civic Media World Headquarters in Madison, Wisconsin, it's the Todd Alba Show.

And now, pursuing truth wherever it may lead, here's your host, Todd Alba.

Todd Alba

Across Wisconsin on the Civic Media Radio Network.

and streaming worldwide on the Civic Media app.

Good afternoon, everybody.

Todd Alba, along with Mr. Aaron Zommers, our producer and engineer on the board.

It is six minutes past the hour of three o'clock on this Monday, October 6, 2025, and it's a great day.

To be a Wisconsinite, welcome into the old World Headquarters downtown Madison, Wisconsin, and the crossroads of State Street and Fairchild Overcast Day.

Fall has arrived, Mr. Zombers.

Welcome to hour number two of the big broadcast on the Sam Davidson Street Cam.

For those watching online, look at that beautiful shot there.

Little cockeyed, I set the camera up today.

Grandpa used to say, don't be like the cockeyed seamstress, you couldn't mend straight.

Aaron Zommers

Yeah, gotta be careful when

Todd Alba

you're setting up cameras.

Gotta be careful of that.

But anyway, there are a couple of cars going by, not a lot of activity.

downtown Madison today, at least people, pedestrian traffic.

Maybe people are staying, people are staying inside Somers after the beautiful weekend that we had in Wisconsin.

Aaron Zommers

Maybe, especially because at least on my way in today, it was drizzling a little bit.

So maybe people are just like, tut tut, it looks like rain, and they're staying inside.

It could be.

Todd Alba

There were a couple of sprinkles earlier, but yeah, it's that time of year, a little fall-like.

There'll be a football game by the way, it's homecoming week here in Madison for the University of Wisconsin Badgers and some breaking news And I'm not sure whether this is good or bad Because you always like national coverage generally speaking

For our state for athletic programs.

It's just been announced according to channel 3000 WISD TV here in Madison the Wisconsin football team will host top ranked Ohio State on October 18th, and you can catch the game live on CBS The actual kickoff at 2 30 in the afternoon.

So the big Wisconsin Ohio State

game on October 18th here in Madison will be a prime time, at least prime time afternoon Saturday football viewing will be the key game on CBS at 2 30.

First, though, the Badgers face Iowa, whereas my granddad and grandma used to say, Iowa.

They faced Iowa this Saturday for the homecoming game.

It's a night game six o'clock at Camp Randall.

You can hear it on many of our stations, Iowa, taking on Wisconsin, four o'clock for the pregame show just after six for the kickoff on RCE and Richland Center, L-A-K in AMRI, W-F-H-R in Wisconsin Rapids, and W-R-P-N in Ripon Good Cookies, Wisconsin.

about that.

So that's coming up.

I'm going to the game.

You're going with me as our courtesy of our friend, Trig V. Olson, who will be in town.

I think he's going to join us on the show on on Friday.

That'll be a lot of fun.

And also other breaking news I can now confirm via our co-executive producer, Chris Paul's.

He has booked and this is I've been wanting this for a long time for a guest.

I can tell you that if you've ever gone to a Badger football game and heard.

First and 10 Wisconsin.

First and 10 Wisconsin.

There you go.

The man behind that voice is Mike Mankey.

Mike Mankey, and he is going to be here on Friday.

That's awesome.

We're going to interview Mike Mankey and find out what it's like to be the voice of the Badgers on the PA side, both for football.

He does volleyball, basketball.

So Mike Mankey will be here from the University of Wisconsin Madison PA announcer.

So I can't wait.

That'll be that'll be a lot of fun.

I think Brady Ewing may be along as well.

Former Badger and NFL veteran talking about homecoming.

I look, I hope that the Badgers can win this one.

It'd be great to win the homecoming game.

I'm pulling for him.

I want them to win.

But as our sports reporter, Mike Clemens reported, they lost at the big house over in Ann Arbor on Saturday, Michigan 24 and Wisconsin 10.

and Luke fickle chose to start the number three, the third string quarterback in that game.

And you know what?

The Badgers went down, scored first, seven, nothing.

I did not get to see much of it for another, I'll tell you why in a minute, but the Badgers play, look, I don't, I'm not hating on the, on the players at all.

I think they're giving it their all.

They played Michigan tough at Ann Arbor and it,

24-10, three minutes left to go, Wisconsin has the ball, and all three timeouts.

And Coach Fickle decides to essentially wave the white flag and not use any of those timeouts.

You're down two scores.

And I think what it says to your players is, there's no fight left in you, or at least that's the message you're sending.

And that was the takeaway from a lot of Badger fans on Saturday was, hey, you know what?

The players showed some progress, give them credit.

But now why is Fickle essentially giving up?

So... You just don't do that.

Very, very frustrating on the part of the head coach of Wisconsin.

So I'm hoping everything comes together and they can get a win this Saturday against Iowa for the homecoming game.

Let's hope that.

Aaron Zommers

Hopefully hopefully he at least doesn't throw in the towel

Todd Alba

right and you can hear the Badgers on the civic media app as well if you're out living with those cities that I mentioned So tune us in if you don't have the app you can download it and your Apple or Android device It's free.

It's what gale king calls a deal over there at CBS

That's a whole another kettle of fish.

But with the changes happening at CBS, I'll be interested to see her contract is up in May.

I'll be interested to see whether Gail wants to go another round of these people

Aaron Zommers

or whether or not they want her to.

Todd Alba

Well, yeah.

I just think that Gail is going to.

I don't know her, obviously, but from what I read and have admired her career over the years, I just don't know that she's going to want to be part of this new CBS.

Oh, a lot can happen between now and May.

It can.

As we know, it can be a lifetime indeed.

Much shorter time tonight.

If you watch on YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, got my Brewers October baseball stuff on, got the Euker Jersey up here in the studio today.

Brewers in game two of the NLDS against the Chicago Cubs.

Pre-game starts at 730.

That's right.

It's a late game tonight.

First pitch just after eight o'clock and fan field you can hear that one only over the air on RCE and Richland Center W ISS and Oshkosh WCQM and Park Falls and WBZH in Hayward So dial it in there on those great stations looking forward to the crew getting at it tonight Gonna do what's worse for you in just a minute But I'm gonna ask for your indulgence for a couple of moments don't

Normally do this don't do it too often.

I don't think so much.

No But I do this for one reason number two, I guess number one to say thank you and and number two just to talk about the the subject of opportunity Was very honored humbled To go back to Richland Center this weekend for the University of Wisconsin Richland alumni Gala dinner that happens every every fall

because I started out my my comments on Saturday saying I think there had been a great mistake cap and they've ran out of people to nominee.

I was chosen along with four other people as outstanding alumni of the University of Wisconsin-Richland for 2025.

My fellow nominees or my fellow honorees, Ken Hansen,

class of 1965 at UW County Teachers College, Jane Goplin-Kinney, class of 67, Terry Kenothe, class of 76, and Julie Brock-Steven's class of 1973.

I am the class of 1991 at UW Richland.

Very honored, very humbled.

I don't know that I deserved it, but what it did give me is an opportunity to thank a lot of people in my life who

if I've had any success professionally or otherwise, it's because of them.

And so I used my time, and I'll give you a shortened version here, that what the campus to me means, and yes, I've talked about it on this show, my maternal grandmother, Marge Wallace, was one of the key people that started, that got that campus built in the late 60s.

She went on to be the first woman to serve as Dean.

of a UW System campus in Wisconsin.

The Student Center was named after her, the Marjorie Wallace Student Center.

Very, very proud of my grandmother.

Broke glass ceiling, certainly for women in this state.

And to attend that university and go to school there, it gave me the opportunity for a kid to grow up in a small town to meet people from other countries, the Central American Scholarship Program, which was.

helped to be started by former of the late Dean Tom Oates, Dr. Tom Oates, and Linda Gentis, who you've heard me talk about, passed away about three or four weeks ago.

And it had it not been for those people bringing the Central American Scholarship Program there, I would not have met a lot of people that are my friends that I call family today, including my two godsons, whose mom was originally from El Salvador and whose dad is from Spring Green, who went to that university.

That's how I met them.

And then I had all my professors there.

Jean Birkitt, by the way, my English professor and theater professor at 97, I believe, was there at this luncheon, and she is going to be back on the stage for the Community Players Theater for their latest production this fall.

And she is sharp as a tack.

Aaron Zommers

Still

Todd Alba

getting it done?

Still getting it done.

Professor Bob Hershey was there as well, one of the charter faculty.

John Poole, the great recruiter, so many other people.

Dion Kempthorne, one of the former deans at the campus.

A lot of people to thank there.

My public school teachers, Otis Scott, Ken Thied, Ken Lewis, Dr. Jerry Bauer, history professor at the campus.

And then I'll skip over the rest and my family, certainly my mom, my sister, my two nieces, Addison and Isabel, my brother-in-law, Mike, who all made the trip from Eau Claire to be there.

But I wrapped it up with this.

I told the story of the air, so I'll give you the shortened version now, that you'll remember this year we did the show at Green Bay Preble High School for the Wisconsin Public Education Network.

And we ended the show with having Nikki VanderMullen, the

first person with autism elected to the Madison School Board.

And she talked about the fact that in sixth grade, teachers told her parents that she never graduated high school, but her parents fought for her opportunity.

And not only did she graduate from college, now she's on the Madison School Board.

And so I think that what that, even though Jay Rothman and the Board of Regents and a number of people in the legislature and quite frankly, I'm disappointed in the governor.

Governor Evers about this, that UW Richland was closed, the brick and mortar, the bricks and the copper roofs, but our educational facilities in the state are more than brick and mortar.

They're an idea, a spirit, the Wisconsin idea.

And so even though our little college at UW Richland after 55 years was closed down, the spirit of that place lives on, not

It's not about me, it's about all the people that preceded me and came after me.

And the fact that the Alumni Association is still giving out thousands of dollars in scholarships to high school kids from Southwest Wisconsin every year to go to college.

They're still getting it done.

And that's what it's about, in my opinion, in rough times and public education is being attacked from K-12 through the university.

But whatever anybody listening to my voice

If you have an opportunity to give to someone, do it.

It does have to be money.

Just give people an opportunity because that's all a lot of people need is an opportunity.

And then they're gonna fly.

So...

Thanks a lot to the University of Wisconsin Mitchell Alumni Association, and I hope this inspires other people to take opportunities, give people opportunities.

We're gonna come back, give you our what's worse for today.

Don't miss it.

Speaking of reunions, are you a high school reunion person?

Well, let's play into the other side.

It's the all ball show for Monday.

On the Civic Media, ready or not.

Radio Host

You now pass the hour of three o'clock on Monday, October 6th, 2025.

Glad to have you along.

Getting some word from many of our listeners that the app, maybe have a couple of bugs in it.

We're working our fine engineers are all over, they're on top of it.

If you're not getting volume on the old Civic Media app, keep her fresh and keep trying.

You can also find us, I think still, at Civic Media.us.

Is that true, Zauberts?

People can listen there?

Yeah.

All right.

He's busy

Zauberts

solving the problem.

He's

Radio Host

working on it.

Civic Media.us on the Civic Media website.

You can check out there.

And of course on terrestrial radio over many of our fine stations here at the Civic Media radio network.

By the way, Harvest Moon tonight.

Harvest Moon.

I was coming back from Michelin Center last night as the moon was rising.

Andre Bad Moon rising.

What a Chris Berman's best nicknames ever on ESPN the big big harvest moon and reminded me my Maternal grandfather Warren Wallace was a great same my grandma Wallace and we go camping and there was a song harvest moon.

I apologize, but

We'll shine on shine on harvest moon up in the sky for I ain't had no lovin since January February June and July snow time ain't no time to stay indoors in spoon because I ain't had no lovin since January February June and July harvest moon ever sing that song

Zauberts

I have not

Radio Host

Our designers is looking like neither should you

No,

Zauberts

I'm just like, I have no idea what that

Radio Host

is.

You're a Boy Scout, Eagle Scout.

I thought maybe that was a campfire song people would sing.

Zauberts

That's not one that I ever learned at least.

I don't

Radio Host

know.

Maybe it was a Richelton Center song.

Maybe.

I

Zauberts

don't know.

Radio Host

Yeah.

All right, 24 minutes past the hour of three o'clock.

Time once again for what's worse.

Let's

Zauberts

go.

Radio Host

Once again, for what's worse, no prize money to give away, nothing to, no prizes involved, no cash to give away.

You see, it's been so long summers with the text to win.

I forgot how to open this up.

It is your chance to have your voice heard at all 10 news talk sports stations on the Civic Media radio network.

All right, then I was back at RC.

It wasn't really a class reunion, although the rich will consider homecoming.

For high school was this weekend and I think a couple of classes had their class reunion.

Oh, here's another this I won't forget this this is perhaps the best part of the weekend so Homecoming this weekend and you know, there's some not nothing destructive But you know kids still toilet paper trees

Zauberts

in

Radio Host

which one center during homecoming and so mom's house didn't get hit Directly because there's no real trees in her front yard, but our next-door neighbors got their their tree TP'd pretty well

beautiful job.

And it had not rained in Richland center at all.

And so it was all dry, right?

And so on Sunday, we go out and mom starts going over to, she goes, well, I'm going to take that off the neighbor's tree.

It's just going to blow over my yard.

So she goes over there and she wraps, she comes back with, with.

Half of a toilet paper old was unused.

They just got to land it in the yard and she'd wrapped up all this toilet paper by the tree and it was dry and she goes, well, I'm going to take this in.

I won't have to worry about toilet paper for the rest of the week.

Zauberts

You know,

Radio Host

fair enough.

If it works, it works.

And she's listening at home, which she oftentimes is.

She's probably saying, now, why would he say that on the air?

I said, you're not actually, well, why not?

And it was my brother law pointed out, it was not like cheap, you know, generic toilet.

It was like Charmin

Zauberts

double quilted.

Radio Host

No, it was like Charmin double quilted.

I mean, yeah, then that, you know what?

It's free, right?

As long as

Zauberts

it's

Radio Host

not all nasty.

No, it was, it was clean as a whistle.

So there you go.

There's a little news you can use.

Don't knock the teepee of the neighborhood during homecoming because you might be able to recycle.

Zauberts

Reduce reuse recycle that's a reuse right there.

I think just don't do it in the other order

Radio Host

Exactly right all right category today.

What's worse high school reunion or no high school reunion high school reunion or No high school reunion 8 5 5 7 5 2 4 8 4 2 8 5 5 7 5 2 4 8 4 2 what's worse high school reunion

Our own Catherine Lake.

General manager of WMDX here, Madison says of my old Harvest Moon song.

She says, if that song isn't a promo, I don't know radio.

Well, Catherine knows radio.

So I guess there you go.

Our work for today is done, Zombers.

Zauberts

You know what I'm doing, yeah.

Radio Host

And by the way, shout out to Catherine Lake and all of our great people.

I regret I wasn't in town.

on Sunday yesterday because they had the big Alzheimer's walk and fundraiser here in Madison.

And both Catherine and my family have been touched by dementia and Alzheimer's, as I know many of you have as well.

And John and Gordy crew, Dom, the Italian stallion Lee was out there.

Did you make it?

Zauberts

You did not.

No, I didn't mean to make you feel bad.

I'm so sorry to all of you that I couldn't go.

You couldn't go.

Not that I couldn't go, that I forgot.

I woke up, I checked my notepad of stuff to do it, and I'm like, you know what?

That was this morning.

But your intention was there.

Radio Host

It was well-intentioned.

But congratulations to Catherine, John, and Gordy crew.

Everybody here at WMDX, like Megan was there, Denise was there, a few other people, and raising money for Alzheimer's.

Do what y'all can, and I'll hope that it...

worked in my calendar to be there next year to help out.

So congrats to all of them.

What's worse, high school reunion or no high school reunion?

Robert in McFarland says high school reunion as long as we can drink.

So what's worse is none then, I guess.

Zauberts

I guess, yeah, I guess what he's saying is that if you can't drink.

and having it is worse.

But if you're allowed to, then not having it's worse.

Radio Host

Matt in Middleton says having reunion is worse, says I would feel pressure to go and in the cafeteria food, oh, and the cafeteria food has not improved.

More of your answers after this, I'll tell you a high school reunion story of my own.

High school reunion or no high school reunion, what's worse, 8-5-5-7-5-2-4-8-4-2.

Farm News is next to Pam Yonkey and the crew.

Now what's the matter, buddy?

Ain't you heard of my school?

It's your number one in the state.

Todd Allbaugh (host)

Great song.

I haven't heard that in a long time.

Thank you, Zommer.

It's a 35-minute style past the hour of 3 o'clock, Monday, October 6th, 2025.

Aaron Zommer is playing the tunes on the board.

Be true to your school.

We're right in the middle of today's what's worse, high school reunion or no high school reunion.

What's worse, having a high school reunion, having to go to that or not having a high school reunion?

8-5-5, 7-5-2, 4-8-4-2, 8-5-5, 7-5-2, 4-8-4-2.

Let's go to the phone lines.

Ollie, listening up in the Northwoods.

Ollie, hope you had a good weekend.

Welcome back to the show.

High school reunion or no high school reunion, what's worse?

Ollie from the Northwoods (caller)

Well, that's kind of a trick question, isn't it?

Maybe go to your high school reunion.

How will you know what's going or not?

Right?

Um, I suggest that you be careful for Carrie bar might have you on beats show Just saying that Right, yeah

Todd Allbaugh (host)

I was a choir kid, you know, I'm the best voice but I haven't I haven't sung really in a long time

And your voice gets worse and worse.

That's a

Ollie from the Northwoods (caller)

great song

Todd Allbaugh (host)

to sing too.

So you know that.

Ollie from the Northwoods (caller)

It's John in the

Todd Allbaugh (host)

Harvest Movie.

Ollie from the Northwoods (caller)

I know it.

I used to work in home health and I worked with a gentleman whose brother would come and sing the ukulele and play the ukulele and sing lots of old time songs and that was one of his favorite songs.

Well,

Robin Voss (guest)

thank

Todd Allbaugh (host)

you.

See, I'm not completely crazy.

No,

Ollie from the Northwoods (caller)

you're not.

Todd Allbaugh (host)

Good job.

Well, thank you.

Thank you.

So at the end of the day, what's worse, having a high school reunion or no high school reunion?

Ollie from the Northwoods (caller)

Well, I didn't go to my high school reunion.

But like I said, I think it's pretty hard to just

to decide if you didn't go, which one would be worse.

Todd Allbaugh (host)

It might have

Ollie from the Northwoods (caller)

been worse if you did go.

Todd Allbaugh (host)

Good point, Ollie.

I appreciate it.

Thanks for listening.

Have a great day up there in the Northwoods.

What's worse, high school reunions or no high school reunions?

855-752-4842.

855-752-4842.

Chris, listening down in beautiful Jamesville, VW MDX.

Chris says,

Worse is having reunions for years 10, 15, and 20.

All right, so you, but Zomers, I talked about this off the air, because normally it's every five years.

And you're saying Zomers, you did not have a five year class reunion.

Aaron Zommer (contributor)

I don't remember seeing anything about it.

And, you

Todd Allbaugh (host)

know, what happened during COVID?

Aaron Zommer (contributor)

I graduated high school in 2017.

So that would be 2022.

So kind of, I

Todd Allbaugh (host)

don't

Aaron Zommer (contributor)

know, maybe, maybe COVID just threw it off or maybe

Todd Allbaugh (host)

I

Aaron Zommer (contributor)

wasn't invited or maybe it went to my spam or who knows?

Todd Allbaugh (host)

Well, I mean, I think everybody in the class, if they have it, you don't necessarily have to get a personal invitation.

If it's announced, right, you're a member of that class, you're welcome to

Aaron Zommer (contributor)

go.

I don't remember seeing anything about it, but, you know, that

Todd Allbaugh (host)

might be my

Aaron Zommer (contributor)

fault.

Todd Allbaugh (host)

Also, Lori.

Lori, let's see up a beautiful Hayward.

Of course, we've done the show there several times for the Berkebeiner and the Lumberjack World Championship with Greg and Jane up there.

I love Hayward.

Our great station, WBZH.

Lori, listening in on WBZH and Hayward, I said earlier that my mom had, had recycled the, her neighbor's tree got toilet paper.

And the toilet paper was in fine shape.

And she said, well, I'm going to use this.

And I was laughing about this.

A mom have no fear.

Lori in Hayward is admonishing me saying hey Todd I like the way your mother thinks waste not want not Lori from Hayward.

So there you go.

Lori on mom's side Very good Brett in Brown Deer on WAUK No reunion is worse because I left school after I got a GED and joined the military So I never get the invite.

Well, that's terrible.

You should get the invite Brett

Come on now.

And by the way, thank you very much for your service to our country.

Extraordinarily important.

I think that's something, uh, as someone who, who works in military affairs for our former congressman, I think it's something that's not talked about enough today, which is nothing wrong with college, nothing wrong with tech school, nothing going into the workforce, but certainly nothing wrong.

In fact, everything right about if you feel a calling to join the military.

So.

God love you, Brett.

Thanks for doing that to everybody else who is chooses to go into our all voluntary military these days What else we have here?

Robert He did make a mistake Robert McFarland listening to the MDX as high school reunion as long as I see as long as we can do Oh, he was apologizing earlier because he said he was

He was driving while trying to text.

Don't do that, Robert.

Thanks for listening while you drive, but pull over if you're going to text.

Megan, in some prairie, listening to MDX says, I never had a formal high school reunion because of COVID.

So I guess I'm fine without one.

All right.

That makes sense.

Matt Middleton reunion is worse.

Matt listening on WMDX says, I would feel pressured to go and I'm not sure that, oh, we read that one as well.

I'm

Aaron Zommer (contributor)

YouTube though.

PJ says, high school reunions are worse.

In my experience, the high school that I attended always wants to throw their reunions at expensive golf clubs and resorts.

The last one I was invited to was asking for 50 bucks a plate at a golf resort club.

I declined the invitation and they stopped inviting me.

Todd Allbaugh (host)

That's terrible.

Aaron Zommer (contributor)

And apparently his parents' class always had their reunions at a local park with potluck and beverages.

See, that's what I would expect.

Right.

Todd Allbaugh (host)

We've, uh, last couple of ones for the class of 88 in Richland Center.

I think they do a good job because we just, we get together at a local establishment and it's basically a cash bar and, and there's some music and people want to order their own food they can, but it's very chill.

It's very informal.

And that, that to me is, is because you get to see people and chat and catch up.

And I think it gets better the older that you get.

People kind of lose the clickiness or or whatever and and you just realize we're all people and and you get along So here's my story.

Maybe I've told a version of this before long goes on.

Correct me if I'm wrong I'm not going to name names to protect the the guilty But this is years ago.

It's like the 10th class reunion was a long time ago and there was a more the early ones we had for our class reunion were more formal and so I was I was there

and a good friend of mine and his wife was there and they did not live in the area.

And so another classmate of ours was at the bar and he had had a few too many.

And he was talking to my friend's wife who did not grow up in Richland Center.

And he says to her that I have to kind of

you know, modify this for radio.

Remember, he's had too many, you know?

And he goes, yeah, you know, like, it's really good to see you and your husband.

And like, you know, you guys should like come more often because like your husband and I could go fishing.

And then like you and my wife could bake a cake.

And she looked at me, I was on the other side of her.

And she says, I'm not baking any effing cake.

Good for her.

True story with the names with help.

One of my all time favorite class reunion moments.

Aaron Zommer (contributor)

That's very good.

Todd Allbaugh (host)

That's what

Aaron Zommer (contributor)

I'm missing.

I don't have anything like that at the

Todd Allbaugh (host)

moment.

Right.

Well, you know, it gets, you know, as you get older, I think people can chill out.

Anyway, all right, that wraps up another edition of What's Worst.

Join us hour two tomorrow for the final edition of What's Worst.

All right, a little newsy news.

We had Jane McNair on earlier, McNair on air.

I know she and Greg touched on this story this morning, but I wanted to just reiterate it.

This from Wisconsin public radio as Congress remains deadlocked on a funding agreement to reopen many federal services Wisconsin GOP representative Glenn growthman said it's time to permanently lay off thousands of government employees to reduce spending quote I would certainly hope that President Trump would step up and let go certainly the Department of Defense probably other departments as well find a hundred thousand

or 200,000 jobs that are not necessary."

He told Wisconsin's WPR's Wisconsin Today.

The federal government employs about 2 million people, about 18,000 of which are in Wisconsin.

The White House has signaled thousands of government layoffs could begin as soon as this week as a result of the government shutdown.

So, Glenn, and again, you have to really...

appreciate this guy that he doesn't hold back.

Whether you agree or disagree, he's just going to lay it out there.

But I hope the constituents of Congress and growthmen, when they go to the polls next year, that you remember that your Congressman Glenn growthman was calling upon the president to fire.

100,000 to 200,000 people in this country, federal workers, specifically naming the Department of Defense.

That's a

Aaron Zommer (contributor)

big number.

Todd Allbaugh (host)

So all you great folks speaking of our military, I remember it's not just people who are active duty military.

There are all kinds of civilian support people in our military bases of Wisconsin, which we have many.

Aaron Zommer (contributor)

Well, in his opinion,

They are quote people sitting in cubicles on a computer There is a lot of anecdotal evidence out there that these people aren't working that hard on quote

Todd Allbaugh (host)

Well Remember remember Glenn is the is the only former state senator Republican state senator who used to order his staff to work on Martin Luther King Day because he didn't think it was a real holiday That's true Interesting so there's that

Alright, it's 46 minutes past the hour.

Time once again to see what's poppin' with Robin

Robin Voss (guest)

Voss.

Time

Todd Allbaugh (host)

once again for what's poppin' with Robin Voss.

The... I love hearing the popcorn effect.

The Republican Assembly Speaker of the State Assembly.

He has a side hustle.

He's a popcorn guy.

He sells popcorn.

Not like vending it.

Aaron Zommer (contributor)

Yeah, not door-to-door.

Todd Allbaugh (host)

He has a company that but he doesn't grow it I think he just is like the middle person.

I believe so.

Yeah We should actually or I've never had any of his popcorn of you.

No, all right Republic this comes to us from his politics and also from my WISN upfront program Great program on the weekends Republican Robin Voss the state's longest serving speaker says he's considering not running for reelection next year quote.

I'm considering it

unquote lost hold of front which is produced in partnership with its politics quote yeah I mean I'm trying to think through like I've done this for a long time how long am I going to be able to do it I don't know now that Tony Evers is leaving I'm kind of excited about the fact of working with a different governor so I just have to decide I won't decide until sometime in January unquote

Now, there's an interesting because I hadn't reported this or talked about it on the air because I hadn't really substantiated it.

I heard this rumor a couple of weeks ago.

And what I'm hearing, again, allegedly, well, I heard it, but allegedly, that Voss is considering not just not running again, but actually resigning from the assembly, which would make sense because when you're the assembly speaker,

You are in control of what's called RAC, the Republican Committee to Elect or whatever, whatever they call it over there.

It's the political arm of the Assembly.

And so if you're not going to run for election, you would probably make way for a new speaker for the majority to try to retain that majority, which looks dicey with new maps.

We'll come back to discuss that a little bit and talk about orchards on the other side.

It's The Tonal Ball Show on the Civic Media.

Ready

Robin Voss (guest)

Network.

Host

Welcome back to the title ball show on the civic media already network where it is now eight minutes before the hour of four o'clock at the top of the hour ABC or CBS News to put you publish of our great station to listen to a check of weather.

Fall is here.

It'll be a little cooler than last week.

A little bit more wet, moist, little rain in the air, but not washing things out.

And then a sports report with our great sports reporter, Mike Clemens.

who will be live on the scene tonight down in Milwaukee at Ampham Field.

The game number two of the nationally divisional series between the Chicago Cubs visiting the Milwaukee Brewers pregame show kicks off tonight at 7 30 with the first pitch.

at AMFAM just after eight o'clock.

You can hear it on WRCE and Richland Center and WISS and Oshkosh, WCQM and Park Falls, and WBZH in Hayward over the air only.

We cannot stream it on the Civic Media app because Major League Baseball owns those rights.

If you're listening to us on WAUK Milwaukee, be aware.

If it hasn't started already, that rush hour traffic is going to be a little crazy because people coming into town both ways, right?

Coming up from Chicago and coming down from other parts of the state.

So pack your patience, as they say.

Traffic around Milwaukee, especially around Amfam, going to be a little heavier than usual for that drive home this afternoon.

But wish the crew luck.

I feel good.

feel good about it.

And I know they can get it done here, game two, and then all they gotta do is win one of the last three of that five game series.

They're on to the championship series, but one game at a time.

Brewers tonight, hosting the Chicago Cubs, eight o'clock, just thereafter for the first pitch on many of our stations on the Civic Media radio network.

Coming up tomorrow.

On this program, they have a brand new capital reporting reporter that is at Wisconsin Watch.

So looking forward to that, she's going to be here talking about a new bill regarding homelessness and veterans.

So a very important issue.

So be here tomorrow.

We'll hear from Wisconsin Watch's new political reporter.

Looking forward to that.

And I'll all knew what's worse as well.

I

Zomes

wonder if that's the same bill that...

It is not.

No, it's not.

Oh, no, I know what you're thinking of.

I know which one it is.

Host

I'm on Rivera's bill, Rivera Wagner's bill.

But no, this was regarding specifically for veteran homeless.

But

Zomes

I mean,

Host

they're similar as well.

So it'll be good.

Quick note, it's the story we're wrapping up about State Representative Robin Voss appearing on the up-front program over the weekend, stating he's considering not running again for another term in the assembly.

And I said, well, what I'm hearing, unsubstantiated.

But as Trump would say, a lot of people are saying that Voss is not only considering not running again, but actually might resign from the assembly yet in 2026, which would make sense because the leader of your party in either house is the person who is basically in charge of getting incumbents reelected and recruiting new people.

So if you're not, if you know, you're not going to be there post election, it would make sense to make way for a new speaker.

a new Republican leader in the Assembly and that person.

And PJ, watching on YouTube, says, Robin Voss resigned that music to my ears.

I get it, PJ, you know, but also a little bit of be careful what we wish for because, believe it or not, there are more MAGA-leaning people in the Assembly Republican caucus than Robin Voss.

Could one of them be the new speaker?

And what would that mean for Wisconsin?

Time will tell.

Zawers also tidied up some news.

We talked about the fact that Robin Voss has this side hustle, this popcorn company.

And Zawers, you did a little work on this.

I did not know this.

Give us this factoid.

Zomes

So in 1996, Robin Voss purchased Rojo's Popcorn, a company in Burlington, Wisconsin.

So Robin Voss' popcorn company is called Rojo's.

which of

Host

course is the, is the nickname or a nickname for United States Senator Ron Johnson, Republican of Wisconsin.

He's often referred to as Rojo.

Usually by people who don't really like him.

Yeah.

But, but the fact that Robin Voss's popcorn company is Rojo's popcorn is Chris Myers and the late great Johnny Carson were fond of saying, I, I did not know that.

It's pretty good though.

Absolutely.

Our friend, my former pastor at PCI Methodist Church, Sarah Cheney, tuning in via Facebook down in Missouri.

Thanks for the, for the congrats there, Sarah.

More importantly, she says, go brewers.

That kind of hurts, but it's only fair.

That is huge.

Coming from Sarah, even, even coming from a pastor and with, with a heart of humility and gold, but still she is a, she is a true red.

Cardinals fan through and through by me can't play where I mean she's from Missouri, right?

And so for for Sarah to give the Brewers Good wishes tonight.

That's that's say that while I'm impressed Sarah.

Thank you.

Appreciate that Thank you my friend.

Hope you're doing well down there beautiful beautiful, Missouri All right, summer's odd.

We have anything else to clean up here before we go.

Are we are we pretty good apples?

Oh, thank you.

Yes, thank you.

So I was at Oakwood Fruit Farm yesterday with the family for customer appreciation days, and they have a brand new apple.

I have it here in my hot little hands.

Well, new to them.

They just started growing it here two, three years ago, called rave.

R-A-V-E rave, also known as first kiss.

And what did Jeff Perry say earlier

Zomes

that he said he used to dance under the name rave?

Host

Yes, Jeff Perry said he used to dance under the name rave and first kiss I I did not know that either but here now.

Let's do a little I think I've given one to Zomers So forgive us for eating in front of you, but let's listen to this pop.

Here

Zomes

we go Hmm They drip crisp and juicy Absolutely

Just what you want from an apple, in my opinion.

This cannot be better.

A great

Host

apple, get out and support your local orchards this fall.

And if you're in Southwest Wisconsin or take a trip, one of our great sponsors, Oakwood Fruit Farm, goes to the Lewises.

After the Lewis Farm, Oakwood Fruit Farm is the same thing as it turns out.

A great show today.

Many thanks to Jane McNair.

I listen to her every morning from 9 to 11 on McNair on air with Greg Bach.

Many thanks to Zombers as well.

We'll have people from Wisconsin watch here tomorrow and go crew.

Let's go Brewers.

Stay tuned.

Maggie Dawlett's next.

We'll see you tomorrow on the Civic Media Radio Network.
