Good afternoon, everybody.

Ta-da!

Along with Mr. Aaron Zommers on the board.

It is six minutes past the hour of two o'clock.

On this Monday, back to work and back to school, September 29th, 2025.

It is a great day to be a Wisconsinite.

Glad to have you along for the old world headquarters, downtown Madison.

The intersection of state and fair child.

Zommers, beautiful day out there.

Announcer

Blue skies.

SPEAKER_??

Absolutely.

Todd Alba (host)

God leaves turning a little warm.

I know a little warm from people like you other folks But but believe me come February people be saying off.

I could only go back to that really warm day back in late September So get out there enjoy a pretty below stay in the warm weather is gonna last through the week Then come this weekend.

Maybe some rain

and cooler temp more just seasonal I guess is what you say fall like maybe by by the weekend but get out enjoy the week be happy about it spend some time get some vitamin D absolutely get some vitamin D a big show for you today glad you are along here at the start of this work week because at the bottom of the hour I'm very excited about this our friend our colleague and I do not use the word legend

Lightly or often but Wisconsin broadcasting legend Jane McNair is going to be here at the bottom of the hour Of course she hosts her own program Matt Nair on air with her friend Greg Bach So Jane Matt Nair who you can hear every day from 9 until 11 across most of these news channels Sadly not here in Madison, but that's a great thing about having Jane on today is we get to have her on here in Madison and

You can download the Civic Media app, and you could always listen to Jane on the old app.

Aaron Zommers

Also, across the whole state, including Madison, at 10 p.m., the Day's Matt and Neuron Air replays.

So today's show that played 9 to 11 will be on at 10 p.m.

tonight.

Todd Alba (host)

So if you like your news straight, God knows you're not gonna get that from me.

No, if you want, I love a lot of things about Jane.

But one of the things I like is she's been around long enough where she just doesn't care what anybody thinks of her.

And she's going to give it to you straight.

She's going to give it to you honestly.

And she's probably going to make us laugh along the way.

And I love that about her.

Aaron Zommers

to clean it up for radio, as Matt Flynn would say, she's seen some stuff.

Todd Alba (host)

She's seen some stuff.

And no one's worked with more people and broadcasting.

No one's interviewed bigger names in this state over the years than Jay and Matt Nair.

And we thought, well, this'll be great.

This fall, we'll bring her on for a recurring segment on Mondays.

We're calling, at least for now, the working title is Mondays with Matt Nair.

Maybe it works.

Maybe it works.

If she's got something else, we'll...

But she, uh, she went over to Europe for a couple of weeks as she does every year.

And so I thought it'd be fun to talk with someone who I've never been to Europe.

Have you been to Europe?

I have.

I went to England once.

Yeah.

Once.

All right.

Very good.

I have never been.

And so there was something, the writer's cup, a big golf thing, which whatever.

It's a contest between European players and United States players.

And it was in the U S over this weekend.

And.

Uh, the European beat the Americans.

The most interesting part about this was not the golf, but how the fans treated the European players.

And so I thought, well, let's check in with our friend, Jane McNair, somebody who spends, you know, at least regular time in Europe.

What do Europeans think of us Americans these days?

Aaron Zommers

I'm

Todd Alba (host)

not

Aaron Zommers

sure I want to hear.

Todd Alba (host)

We'll talk about that with Jay.

Also, if you listen, if you didn't listen to the program, go back and listen on the old podcast.

But it's National Coffee Day today.

And they had a great conversation.

It was a little talk coffee with Jay as well.

I got my brand new Wonder State t-shirt today.

Whatever.

I got a little coffee before the show got here early.

And so I got, I like this shirt.

It is very nice.

It's

Aaron Zommers

got a pocket with the

Todd Alba (host)

Wonder State logo on it.

It does have a pocket.

So anyway, Jane coming up at the bottom of the hour.

And then hour number two, another edition of What's Worse, Glasses or Contacts.

We'll talk to you about that.

Take your calls as well.

And it's our final week of the Civic Media's Green and Gold.

Text to win multi-state contest will give you the word in our number two our number two So so stay tuned for that.

All right.

There's news to get to there's gubernatorial news got a new candidate in Missy Hughes gonna talk about her listen to her first minute of her campaign ad here in a minute, but the big news People are talking about today.

Did you want did you stay up for the Packer game last night?

Aaron Zommers

I did I did so

Todd Alba (host)

did I

Aaron Zommers

it was

It

Todd Alba (host)

was something

Aaron Zommers

I Endured it.

I will say

Todd Alba (host)

So the Micah Parsons the great defensive player as Mike Clemens has been on this show talking about Jerry Jones the owner of the Cowboys Traded him away to Green Bay.

We sent Kenny Clark down there And the thought was the Packers really go in there and clean house Packers have never lost

To the Cowboys in their new Jerry world AT&T stadium,

Aaron Zommers

which is still

Todd Alba (host)

true They won the one that won the Super Bowl that they're over over Pittsburgh and they've beaten Dallas every game and as armor said they still have not lost Yeah to Dallas But now we have tied and this is this is a be in my bonnet on on this stuff because it's one of the reasons that I

I've come around on soccer, or as I say, football.

I understand a beautiful game, it takes a lot of skill.

Notice being about that.

But one of the things I hate about soccer is ties.

Because if A, if I'm going to play anything, and you know, I'm not a huge athlete, but I'm gonna play, you know, you wanna try your best or at the end, somebody's gonna win, somebody's gonna lose.

That's the way life is.

If I'm going to invest time in something, you know what?

Either my team's going to win or we're going to lose.

But you get to the end of that thing.

It's a 40-40 tie.

As the old saying goes, it's like kissing your sister.

Not because you're going to, like, mouth kiss your sister.

The same comes from, you know, if you have a sister like I do, you see her, you give her a hug, maybe a kiss on the cheek or the forehead.

you know, and you don't get the same satisfaction as they say from a romantic partner, because it's your sister, right?

So you kiss, but you know, it doesn't really

Trevor McGill (guest)

do it.

Todd Alba (host)

It doesn't really do anything as hopefully it shouldn't for you romantically.

And so that's the phrase comes from, you know, Ty, it's like kissing, it doesn't really do anything for you.

You invest all that time, doesn't do anything.

You want some kind of conclusive result.

That's a good way to put it more succinctly.

And there was none of that last night.

The Green Bay defense, it was like a greater or something, I don't know, at holds, and he just couldn't stop Dallas.

Micah Parsons did save a touchdown.

Dak Prescott in the overtime almost got into the end zone.

Micah Parsons got credited for the sack, and Dallas had to kick the field goal, which they did.

And the Packers had time went down bad time management in my opinion And then the Packers try to win it as the clock expires Jerry Jones is gonna fire the clock operator in Dallas because they left it second on Which allowed the Packers to save face kick the field goal and get the tie on ESPN, Wisconsin last night Mark Tauser former Badger player former Packer player now the

color analyst on the Badger football radio network with Matt LePay.

Here's what Mark Tauger said as a former player on ESPN Wisconsin last night.

Mark Tauser (guest)

I told you last weekend after the Cleveland game, no sweat, not worried a bit.

I'm worried more than a bit.

This defense that I thought was going to lead the team and be a cause of problems, I did not.

For any time think that the Dallas Cowboys would score 40.

And by the way, if the clock would have been another 10 minutes, they just scored 48.

Todd Alba (host)

It's 100% right.

Mark Tauser on ESPN, Wisconsin.

He's absolutely right.

You could not stop the Cowboys last night.

And look, I love my Packers, but as a fan, I'll be interested to talk to my Clemens, a great sports reporter who was there

who follows this team like nobody else and get his take on this because boy, uh, special teams look terrible last night for the Packers.

Uh, defense look bad.

Apparently reports are today that, uh, Micah Parsons apologized to quarterback love last night.

Uh, say that the defense didn't do their job.

I

Aaron Zommers

will also be very interested to hear Mike Clemens take because I wonder if it was just that Parsons and the rest of the team were in a weird headspace because of the trade who knows

Todd Alba (host)

it was a I mean if you're just if you didn't care who won I mean it was on NBC last night and Mike Turico and Chris Collins were like and they're doing the Super Bowl this year

They're like, we hope we get a super bowl like this.

Cause it was, you know, lots of, lots of scoring back and forth, tight game over time.

And if you're wondering why it went to a tie, they changed it this year.

Cause it used to be in the NFL.

If the regular game ended in a tie, you went to sudden death over time and the first team to score wins.

Well, okay, that's not particularly right.

And so now they went to this where it's a 10 minute overtime.

in the NFL, both teams are assured of getting a possession, but then if it ends in a tie at the end of 10 minutes, it's just a tie.

Why not do what the college basketball or college football does now, which is you go into a second overtime, both teams get possessions.

If it's still a tie, then you go into another overtime where on, if you score a touchdown, you have to go for a two point conversion.

And you go and you just keep going until somebody doesn't get that.

There's been four or five over times in college football, but you have a winner at the end.

Aaron Zommers

Yeah, it's it feels wrong for American football to have a tie.

Yeah,

Todd Alba (host)

I think it's weird.

But anyway, hope the pack.

I'm not saying the season's over.

I'm not one of those people.

I think the Packers can still salvage the season.

But as as Talager said, as a guy who played the game at.

College and pro it for the Packers if Taush is worried I'm worried on a better note How about the Brewers?

Tough few days but came back you got a win final game of the season 97 wins 90 a record-setting win for the regular season best team in franchise history For the regular season.

Here's what coach Pat manager Pat Murphy had to

Pat Murphy (guest)

say after the game

You know, I'm glad that this team gets to be remembered differently.

You know, I'm not into records necessarily, but it's a way for the 2025 to be recognized differently.

Todd Alba (host)

Trevor McGill, back after injury, got a couple of innings of the mound as well to tune up for the postseason.

Here's McGill after the game.

Trevor McGill (guest)

I mean, that's just huge being in the game and just kind of feeling what it feels like to be out there and eventually also having some success too.

So great feeling.

Todd Alba (host)

Trevor McGill after the Brewers victory on Sunday yesterday They're off now until Saturday the first game of the nationally divisional series will be a am fam field on Saturday home field advantage for the crew throughout the playoffs They will face the winner of the San Diego Cubs wild card series Wow That's gonna be interesting.

Well, we'll come back.

Maybe who do you want to face?

I'm not sure

I'm not either.

And also talk about a new gubernatorial candidate on the Democratic side.

We will hear from her campaign video after this.

Don't go anywhere.

Jane McNair will be here to save the show at the bottom of the hour.

Not gonna want to miss it.

It's the all-ball show across Wisconsin on the Pacific media.

Ready to know it.

Todd (host)

Having fun doing it.

Welcome back to the title of all show on the Cinequina ready to work.

Twenty two now past the hour of two o'clock on this Monday, September 29th.

Zobbers on the board.

Glad to have you along.

Jane McNair is going to join us at the bottom just after the bottom of the hour.

Mondays with Matt Nair.

Our new segment could not be happier about that.

Breaking news just in since we are talking to talking about sports here.

Wisconsin football has just put out.

The game I'm going to a Trigby Olson Badger football game on October 11th against Iowa Night game 6 p.m.

So that'll be a lady I will also be there.

Are you going?

Oh, that's right.

Yeah, he invited me as well.

Well Make sure you get a nap in somers 6 p.m.

This night game on FS one or across many of our stations on the Badger

radio football network.

Cleaning up a little bit, just final thoughts of the Packers here.

Let's go to the fold lines, 8-5-5-7-5-2-4-8-4-2.

Dick, listening on WMDX in Madison.

Dick, did you watch the game last night?

What are your thoughts?

Dick from Madison (caller)

I kind of had the same feelings, but here's what I always put in perspective with the NFL now.

17 game season, right?

SPEAKER_??

Right.

Dick from Madison (caller)

return with me now.

I don't think you get any trends until about halfway to when Mike Holmgren left for Seattle.

You know how he started out the first season in Seattle?

Todd (host)

Not well, but it refreshes.

Dick from Madison (caller)

No, ain't no.

Oh, did he really?

The playoffs.

Yeah.

Really?

I forgot that.

And he lost out and didn't make the playoffs.

Yeah.

So you can be hotter in a firecracker to start the season.

And then that's a great point.

And so I'm pretty out of the box eight and all in a 16 game schedule and didn't make the playoffs are crying out loud

Todd (host)

No, I appreciate that reality check.

That's a really good one dick and what what year was it?

What would the Packers start?

What was it oh and two or oh and three when when Rogers had

Dick from Madison (caller)

his relax

Todd (host)

Ari Elliott

Dick from Madison (caller)

Correct.

I mean, it's so many things can happen and the other thing that I don't like about this real long season is in some ways.

I think that basically

The team that stumbles to the finish with the most healthy players, not necessarily the best team wins the thing.

Todd (host)

I think that's fair, too.

I think that's really fair.

Quickly, agree or disagree.

I think, again, not so much the loss last night, but similar to the Badgers, right?

Like, it was how the, the fact that the defense couldn't stop Dallas to Taujer's point.

If there had been another overtime, Dallas probably wouldn't have scored another touchdown.

The special teams play.

That's the stuff that bothers me about the Packers.

Dick from Madison (caller)

Yeah, it's a big fall off.

And especially the way they start the season, you know, after the first two games, right?

It was all the talk.

We're going to we're in the Super Bowl.

And all of a sudden it's this, but just remember that eight and I'll start from great.

Todd (host)

Yeah.

Great reality check, Dick.

Really appreciate that.

Thank you so much.

See, that's why you got to have listeners like Dick who say, don't don't overreact, Todd.

It's

Missy Hughes (campaign launch)

early.

It's

Todd (host)

early.

I could be a little emotional.

I'll admit that.

8-5-5-7-5-2-4-8-4-2, if you want to check in quickly here.

Charles, our great listener, Charles down in Milwaukee, NWA UK.

Quickly, Charles, what do you got for us?

Charles from Milwaukee (caller)

I think the defense was too hype.

I think they were too hyped.

I think they probably figured there was going to be a cake walk.

They saw what Chicago did to Dallas, and they figured, well, we're better than Chicago.

Right.

So I do, I think the whole hype

around Parsons going back to play against the Cowboys.

And I just think they were overly high.

I think sometimes you can be too prepared.

And I do.

I just think they were too prepared and too hyped.

I think it's a great

Todd (host)

point, Charles, because I think they wanted to win this so badly for Micah Parsons.

They played head games.

That's a great perspective.

Appreciate it, Charles.

Up against the clock.

Want to get this in before we go to the farm news.

A new candidate for governor, former Wiedic secretary and CEO, Missy Hughes, today formally launched her campaign for governor, billing herself as a Democrat who understands the economy, quote unquote.

As we have done with everyone else who's released it, here is the first minute or so of the campaign launch video for Missy Hughes.

Missy Hughes (campaign launch)

I'm Missy Hughes.

There are a few things you need to know about me.

Charles from Milwaukee (caller)

Missy is a Democrat who understands the economy.

She spent years growing Wisconsin businesses.

Missy Hughes (campaign launch)

And worked to strengthen main streets across Wisconsin.

The biggest thing?

I'm running for governor.

Let me tell you why.

I spent 17 years as a dairy industry executive growing Organic Valley to a billion dollars in sales and keeping Wisconsin family farmers on their land.

Then Governor Evers appointed me to lead our state's Economic Development Agency, where I worked with major companies to create thousands of jobs here and helped over 9,500 Wisconsinites start small businesses on Main Street in every single county.

Wisconsin's magic is its people.

But right now, even with hard work, it's hard to get ahead.

As governor, I'll create a Main Street economy that includes you and works for you.

where we strengthen our main streets.

Make sure Wisconsinites have higher wages and housing they can afford.

Our families have child care and health care that doesn't break the bank.

And our public schools prepare our kids for the future.

Todd (host)

That is the first minute or so of the campaign launch video of Missy Hughes, former Weenick secretary and CEO who launched her bid on the Democratic side for governor's day.

Interesting.

Very hard hitting rock, driving music in that and wearing a black leather jacket.

Missy Hughes (campaign launch)

We're really driving the Home Depot commercial here.

Todd (host)

That's a good point.

It does get it done today at home.

It does have that vibe, doesn't it?

Just as close to

Missy Hughes (campaign launch)

it.

Very

Todd (host)

close to it.

That's a really interesting take.

Look, I'm certainly qualified.

I had no idea that she had been that involved with one of my favorite Wisconsin companies, Organic Valley.

And maybe that's the biggest obstacle, right?

When Luke Mathers told me last week, Missy Hughes is probably going to get in.

I said, who?

I really did and I'm somebody who follows this stuff.

I think that this is a great example I think Democrats tend to not toot their own horn so to speak well enough

and they haven't gotten any successes out there.

We'd love to have Missy Hughes on like we have other candidates.

Every candidate for cover, welcome to come on this program, give you 15 minutes like we've given everybody else, but if she can raise the money and get the message out, I think she could be a formidable candidate.

A formidable broadcaster, the one, the only Jane McNair here, live with us on Mondays with McNair next on the Civic Media Ready Network.

Welcome

back to the Tahleball show on the Civic Media already network 35 now past the hour of two o'clock on a Monday September 29th 2025

I've been looking forward to this for a long time and because of my inability to organize it has taken this long to get it done.

I could say it's to promote my friend and colleague, but if I'm really honest...

It's just selfish because I feel better when I get time with her.

She is on the air every morning from 9 until 11 across the Civic Media Radio Network, and I do not use this word lightly.

She is a legend in Wisconsin broadcasting, the one, the only host of Matt and Air on air.

Jane Matt and Air joins us from her lovely dining room.

Jane, how are you?

Jane Matt (guest)

I am great, my friend and colleague and traveling companion.

How are you?

Thank you for that lovely intro.

I owe you money.

No, not at all.

Checks in the mail.

Checks in the

Todd (host)

mail.

We've been talking about doing this for a while, and I just find

Jane Matt (guest)

we

Todd (host)

said, we said, well, Mondays are good because I like alliteration.

And so unless you, somebody, Luke said, maybe Matt,

Matinee with Matt Nair, I don't know, but whatever.

Monday, Matt Nair.

Jane Matt (guest)

I like that.

Todd (host)

All

Jane Matt (guest)

right.

Todd (host)

We'll figure it out.

We'll set a lot in actual

Jane Matt (guest)

time.

Yeah, actually, just matinee works.

Todd (host)

That's good.

Monday, Matt Nair.

Jane Matt (guest)

Monday, Matt Nair.

How

Todd (host)

you been,

Jane Matt (guest)

Jen, Jane?

Good.

Busy.

While the weather has been good, I have been doing a lot of work outside.

So yesterday, my neighbor loaned me what I call the Clippers of Power.

And they have this, they're extendable and super sharp and great big clippers.

And so I attacked some things in my yard yesterday.

They weren't expecting that they didn't see it coming.

It ended up being kind of ugly, but it had to be done.

And I tell you, Todd, I went to bed early, but I usually do.

I read for about an hour before I go to sleep.

And I got up at 10 o'clock.

Paul was still watching the game, tragically.

And I had to get some.

I took some of his bear aspirin.

I was so sore.

Everywhere I laid down, it was like my shoulder hurts and my back hurts and like, God, I'm going to get cramp on my foot.

Just kill me now.

So it's it.

I love working in my garden.

There, like, releases energy, right?

In a healthy way.

Yes, yes.

Because we

Todd (host)

had talked about doing today's show from your lovely gardens in your backyard.

Jane called me up last week and she said, honey, this isn't going to work.

Everything's dead.

Jane Matt (guest)

Well, and I have some friends.

I went to a girlfriend's on Saturday.

And her backyard looks so beautiful.

Really?

In my own defense, I will say that we were gone for two and a half weeks.

We just got back from our trip about two weeks ago.

So my plants had not been lovingly cared for and sung to as I would normally do.

That's a lie.

I don't

Todd (host)

know.

I've seen your gardens.

They are beautiful.

And, you know, it's just... Thank you.

One of those weird years where maybe...

Well, it wasn't too dry in your neck of the woods, but maybe overwatered was was part of it.

Jane Matt (guest)

Well, and also a part of it is a deadheading and being able to keep up with other things.

So anyway, yeah, it just was not.

looking pretty for you.

And I wanted, you know, if we're going to go to a garden somewhere, it should at least look nice.

Todd (host)

And we've been to some beautiful places around the state, as you said before, traveling.

And that's always a lot of fun.

We're talking with Jane McNair, a host, a co-host of Matt Nair, an era every morning from nine into 11 with our friend Greg Bach.

The professional that you are, you give me a great segue there.

You've traveled a lot.

You travel every year over to Europe.

You've been there for a couple of weeks here recently.

And here's the, because I've never been, I've spent

a lot of times in Central America, never been to Europe.

Over the weekend, the Ryder Cup, and I'm not a big Ryder Cup follower, but professional golf, European golfers versus American golfers.

It was held this year in the United States.

And to me, the biggest story, the whole thing was how obnoxiously rude and jerks.

A lot of the American fans were Jerry McElroy,

And and then saying terrible things about his family to the point where Roy McElroy at one point refused that I'm not gonna putt until they shut up Yep.

Yep.

So so my question to you Jane McNair is someone who is a person of the world and spends time in Europe What would you travel their most recently a month or so ago?

What do Europeans?

I know you can't judge an entire continent on 10 or 12 20 people sure but in general

What are Europeans thinking these days of America and

Jane Matt (guest)

Americans?

Well, I'm gonna have to give you some broad generals generalizations Todd because quite honestly at least where we were we were in London for about four days and then we were on the southern coast of Portugal and People don't want to ask about politics and people don't at least in my experience

You know, waiters and waitresses certainly don't want to get into that with their customers.

And I did have a couple of exchanges.

There was one exchange I had with a couple in London while I was waiting outside.

And they were from the Liverpool area, I believe.

And their daughter is about 15.

And she really, really wants to move to America.

And she wants to move to New York City.

And they said, we're terrified to let her come because of the guns.

Wow.

And even, I would say, 15 years.

And I know we're not talking about the Ryder Cup, but I'll get there.

Even 15 years ago, or even a little longer, we were in Amsterdam.

And we had gone into a shop in a touristy area.

And that one clerk did ask where we were from because, again, my husband and I have different accents.

He's English.

And when I told her America, she said, I've always wanted to go to cut you to your country, but I'm afraid to go now because of the guns.

Wow.

And I think that tragically, after what we saw happen again this past weekend, there's justification for that fear.

Yeah.

Todd (host)

There was a drive by shooting with a boat for goodness

Jane Matt (guest)

sake.

With a

Todd (host)

boat.

And

Jane Matt (guest)

it

Todd (host)

was like the ninth story this morning on different morning newscasts.

Jane Matt (guest)

We were talking about this off the air before we came back on.

There is so much to go through on a daily basis.

There is such an avalanche of stories and it's really trying to prioritize because when with our show and as with your show too.

I wanted to speak to people who live in Wisconsin and what this means for us in Wisconsin and then broader and then out from there but all of these things that seem so far away like the Ryder Cup do have an effect here and do affect all of us so but it's a constant juggling act don't you think?

And now we're getting to the reason I really wanted to do this

Todd (host)

segment for

group therapy.

And I'm only half joking.

I'm only half joking because I feel exactly the same way that the focus of our show is like yours.

We want to try to be Wisconsin centric, talk about Wisconsin politics, things.

We both try to do things that are good news and and pay attention

Jane Matt (guest)

to

Todd (host)

the good things happening.

But when it's a constant barrage of just backcrab crazy stuff, it's like you can't ignore that.

And I want to get your take on this, Jane McNair, co-host of McNair, an era every morning from 9 until 11.

Have you found, and I found this particularly more difficult the last two months, it has come to the point in my opinion, where I don't want to say everything, but many of the things that I'm preparing for our show, I feel I have to fact check myself, even if it comes from a quote unquote government agency or a quote unquote reliable news source.

because the truth is so hard to find.

Jane Matt (guest)

Well, and again, there is so much that is constantly happening, and there have been times, even going further back, and I would say going six or seven months back, where I saw something on social media that was inflammatory to, and it met my biases.

And I was gonna jump on it, and I thought, yeah, you know what, I'm gonna wait four hours.

and see what else I can find out about this thing that I saw that seems so legitimate.

And it turned out to be a hoax.

And now with AI getting so good and frighteningly good, like the med bed ad, that's another thing in the whole list of crazy things that's happening that we're going to get to, hopefully.

Yeah,

Todd (host)

let's you brought up, Jane.

Let's get to that.

Jane, Matt, Aaron, Matt, Aaron, Aaron every morning from nine to 11.

This Jake Tapper put this out.

I believe on Sunday on on his Insta and Twitter accounts and I'm just gonna play this or discuss it with Jane and I am not found anywhere.

I watched the morning news shows No one covered this this morning that I saw here's Jake Tapper's post from early yesterday.

Jake Tapper (news clip)

I know we've gotten all kind of numb to the odd

and misinforming and strange stuff that politicians these days post on social media, including our president.

But last night at 10, 19 p.m.

Eastern, President Trump posted this.

AI Narrator

Breaking now, President Donald J. Trump has announced a historic new health care system, the launch of America's first med bed hospitals and a national med bed card for every citizen.

Every American will soon receive their own med bed card.

With it, you'll have guaranteed access to our new hospitals led by the top doctors in the nation.

Jake Tapper (news clip)

I'm interrupting just a second.

Apologies to make sure you understand that none of this report is real.

It is AI doing a fake Lara Trump Fox report.

None of this is real.

MedBeds are not real.

I'll tell you more about them in a second, but I just wanted to make sure you got that.

Anyway, here's the rest of this bogus news report that

President Trump shared for some reason.

AI Narrator

Equipped with the most advanced technology in the world, these facilities are safe, modern, and designed to restore every citizen to full health and strength.

Jake Tapper (news clip)

Again, this is not a real video, and now this is President Trump re-truthing, if that's what you call it on truth social, his social media thing, re-truthing.

a post that is AI of his daughter-in-law, AI of his favorite channel, Fox, and AI of him talking about med beds, which if you are saying, you don't know that med beds are a conspiracy theory popular with QAnon people in which there exists these magic beds that restore limbs and reverse aging and cure anything that befalls the human body, but they're only available to the rich and elite.

And this, of course, is President Trump.

offering med beds to everyone.

But it's a conspiracy theory and the whole thing's not true.

What?

I asked the White House, what was the deal with the president posting this?

And then deleting it, he did delete it.

Yeah, he deleted

Todd (host)

it, no

Jane Matt (guest)

response.

So, Jane McNair, what do you make of that?

Well, I'm gonna confess something.

When I was away, I actually tried a med bed and as you can see, it didn't work.

So, not only is that a hoax, it's not effective.

So, I'm sorry to crush so many bubbles.

It's, no, in all seriousness though, Todd, when he was re-elected and I was trying because, again, I called them squirrels originally because I do believe that all political parties do things as a distraction.

and he wants to distract from the Epstein files.

He's trying to distract the economy.

There were so many crazy things, but these things are dangerous now.

This is dangerous.

This is feeding QAnon people who also believe that there's a blood drinking cabal led by Hollywood going back to the pizza shooting in D.C.

It's in and this is the president of the United States putting this on his social media channel.

This is not normal

Todd (host)

And not at all It will discuss more of it on the other side Jane Matt and her host a matter on air every morning from 9 until 11 We'll ask Jane in her time in Madison and Milwaukee and statewide media was changed We need another hour, but come on back.

We'll finish up with Jane after this on Civic Media's ready network

Greg Bach

Your husband, wherever you want to dance with in the morning, do not start the day without tuning in, Matt and Air on air from 9 until 11 every morning.

Greg Bach along with our guest, Jane Matt and Air, the incomparable Jane Matt and Air, because that's the way it'll make you feel right there.

I mean, right there.

You're happy.

You're dancing.

You're ready for the day.

And when you tune in every morning, nine to 11, that's how you're going to feel.

And for those poor, unfortunate souls in Madison, who can't hear it live, you can hear it every evening.

What time, Zommer's 10, 10, 30.

At 10, yeah.

10 o'clock.

You don't want, don't listen to the nightly news.

It's just going to depress you.

Tune in to the replay of Matt Naran air on the Civic Media Ready Network or.

You can download the Civic Media app and hear it live, V-A-W-A-U-K, or many of other of our fine stations as well.

Well, Jane McNair joins us live.

Jane is so lovely to have you here.

Jane McNair

It is so good to see you and spend some time with you, my friend.

We really do have great fun together and great conversations together, actually.

Greg Bach

And that's the vibe I wanted to bring to this segment.

I think so far it's going pretty well, where, you know, it's not so much an agenda.

It's just like, let's talk and let people listen.

Jane McNair

Yeah, I apologize if I'm kind of springing all over the place, but it's, you know...

This is when we take road trips together and we're on the road for three hours.

That's what you end up doing.

You cover lots of things.

And that's how you get to know one another, too.

100% and sing musical numbers together.

Well, yes, everyone should sing in the car and car dance.

Greg Bach

Jane how long This is serious.

I one of the cool things I said this to you privately and I think I mentioned before the air What are the cool parts about this opportunity to come to work for civic media is getting to meet you and and and spend time with you and having your mentorship and your friendship How many years have you actually worked in in the business as they say I have been in radio for 44 years.

It's incredible and and Please don't take this the wrong way as a woman

who, especially when you started out, that was

Jane McNair

not the norm.

No, it wasn't actually.

In my broadcasting class, there were three women and there were 24 guys.

Wow.

And so, yeah, it was unusual.

And the woman who inspired me and thought made me think I could do it, her name was Bobbin.

And she was an early rock, you know, DJ in Milwaukee.

And I think W, oh, ZMF, no, I'm gonna, people will scold me who know this, but so yes, Bobbin was the first woman I heard when I was growing up and it's like, that might be a fun job.

And I wanted to be an actress originally, but I didn't want to go, I didn't want to have to move all the time and I didn't want to be on the road all the time.

And so radio to me was a mind theater.

I could be anybody.

Yeah.

And people could imagine it.

And now we have cameras everywhere.

Greg Bach

But now they can see your lovely face.

But I think it's so important what you just said, because as you well know better than anybody else, good radio.

is theater of the mind.

You create as they listen, and that's why when people meet us, right, they say, especially me, they look at me and they say, well, that's not how you, I didn't think you looked like

Jane McNair

that.

Oh, exactly.

Yep.

No, exactly.

But that's the great thing about it, because it's like reading a book.

Instead of the movie, is your mind gets to fill in lots of details.

And I think that's part of the genuine experience of radio.

Agreed.

I

Greg Bach

don't want to run out of time.

I want to make sure you get this in.

What is coming up today or today?

Later on this week on Matt and Air on air that you want to make sure people tune in for.

Jane McNair

Well, tomorrow you are joining our show at 935.

There's your reminder.

Greg Bach

We may have to talk after my dad's having a thing tomorrow.

Oh, that's right.

Don't worry about it.

I'm sorry.

I never mind.

Yeah.

Jane McNair

Never mind.

We'll punch.

We'll punch.

Don't worry about it.

Um, that's funny.

Uh, uh, we're talking to state Senator Kelly Royce in our number two.

Greg Bach

That's

Jane McNair

great.

She made her announcement on your program, uh, that she is running for governor.

So, uh, Senator Royce is going to join us on Wednesday.

Uh, Darren Van Ruden, who is the, uh, president of the Wisconsin Farmers Association is going to join us.

He joins us once a month now.

Not that there's anything going on with tariffs.

Greg Bach

I think that's what I listen when I can to you guys and and I think that's a segment stands out for me and because it really he has a great way of Telling things that everyone could understand whether you're a rural or urban person of why these things are important to all Wisconsinites

Jane McNair

Absolutely, it is we're all in this together man and and if we lose all of our family farms to large corporate farms That is not going to benefit any of us.

Greg Bach

No, no not at all

What's the other thing I love that you and Greg do, the last half hour, your audio sorbet, as you call it.

And today, near and dear to my heart, National Coffee Day, I thought that was fantastic.

Jane McNair

Yeah, I thought about you immediately, and I was listening to the Ted Pats show on the way into work, and he said it was National Coffee Day.

And

Greg Bach

so,

Jane McNair

how much coffee do you drink a day?

How many cups

Greg Bach

of coffee do you drink?

Not as much as you might think, maybe on average.

16 maybe two 16 ounce cups more or less maybe not quite that much some days Zommer is that true?

I I mean from what what I can verify.

I don't know what he drinks in the privacy of his own home

Jane McNair

Behind doors no one knows but you're a coffee drinker I am and actually I've been drinking more coffee in the last couple of years I didn't for a long time really but then when you get up in the middle of the night I was getting a I get I got up at three o'clock in the morning for most of my career

you need coffee or a slap across the face or something.

Greg Bach

And then you end the show with this shouldn't be a thing, which is a fantastic way to laugh at the end of the program.

Jane McNair

It's tisbat for short.

Yes, this shouldn't be a thing.

Just silly stories today.

They arrested two guys.

They stole 91 manhole covers.

Who does that?

I want to know why.

You know what?

You end it there, and are you making jewelry?

Is it a sculpture?

Is it like cellonoids?

And you can, you know, what's the market for manhole covers?

I'm curious, Todd.

I have questions.

Greg Bach

Be informed, be entertained, and get answers to your questions every morning from 9-11.

Jane McNair, thanks, my friend.

Stay tuned for hour two straight ahead.

Todd Alba

From the Civic Media World Headquarters in Madison, Wisconsin, it's the Todd Alba Show.

And now, pursuing truth wherever it may lead, here's your host, Todd Alba.

Across Wisconsin on the Civic Media Radio Network.

and streaming worldwide on the Cinec Media app.

Good afternoon, everybody.

Todd Alba, along with Mr. Aaron Zommerns on the board.

It is now six minutes past the hour of three o'clock.

Welcome into hour number two of the big broadcast on Monday, back to work, back to school, September 29th, 2025.

It is a great day to be a Wisconsinite.

Glad to have you along here.

Blue skies and...

The yellow leaves start to fall here at the intersection of state and fair child and downtown Madison, Wisconsin.

You set it up.

Let's take a look at the beautiful Sam Davidson street cam.

Look at that beautiful shot summers today in downtown Madison.

The crossroads of the state.

Here are the cars going by the beautiful, uh, overture center.

Right in the right hand side for those watching the stream, YouTube, Facebook and Twitter.

A person navigating the road, she's crossing against the light as cars are coming by playing Frogger, a live version of Frogger, and she goes down State Street.

Bold, I will say.

But not, you know, elevator doesn't quite go to the top floor.

Although, like you mentioned, the leaves are turning out.

The leaves are there's a UPS driver or a fine UPS many thanks to all of our great people delivering the crap that comes to our houses We go online we order stuff and so people had to kind of deliver that so the great drivers that we have Thank you many thanks to Jane McNair you can hear her every morning from 9 until 11 on many of these fine stations across the Civic Media Ready Network and you can hear her

on Madison Station, WMDS, over the air in the evening, a replay of the morning show at 10 o'clock.

So, tutor in on MDX or anywhere on the Civic Media app via WAUK in Milwaukee.

New signal down there, Milwaukee as well.

Indeed, now it's a true downtown Milwaukee station.

Yes, so you can hear, I think that's great.

So here here Jane all over and you couldn't find a nicer person you couldn't find a more genuine person and for my money not a more talented person in in radio and we're lucky to have her here at Civic Media Matt and Aaron air every morning from 9 to 11 and we're gonna do this every Monday now that'll be a lot of fun and it takes a half an hour off of my plate where I could just say oh well got a half an hour we're just gonna catch up with Jane

That's no work at all, because she does all the heavy lifting, and it's just nice to have a conversation with somebody like that.

It's always time well spent

Aaron Zommerns

with

Todd Alba

Jane.

It is.

That's a very, very good way to say it.

Coming up a little bit later on in this hour, I mean, because Jane and I, guess what, are both talkers.

And so we didn't have time to get to this, but I want to get into it a little bit later on in this half hour.

And it's a more serious subject that we might usually do in hour number two, but I think it's important as they say Well, you can you can't really say I want to suss it out anymore because now sus means something different

Aaron Zommerns

It

Todd Alba

still

Aaron Zommerns

works people still say that

Todd Alba

do they

Aaron Zommerns

really if you are spelling it sussing it out is to is s u s s Whereas if someone is sus, it's just s u s because it's short for suspicious, right?

Todd Alba

See it's ours keeps us and therein lies the point of this whole thing

I think a lot of you know this.

I've been trying to be more reflective lately myself of the show.

And so I'm trying to dig down like why, why are people reacting to things a certain way?

How are they hearing things?

How am I talking about things?

And so I did some deep dives over the weekend and this surprise, I guess I kind of sort of thought it, but never really stopped to say, well, is this true?

The right, if you want to just be very general, the conservative side, have a lot more people who are engaging youth on campuses in what I would say is a positive way.

And one of these people, Brilliant Hollyhand, is all over socials.

He's kind of, I don't know if he's self describing, but others are saying he's kind of Charlie Kirk 2.0, much younger.

Freshman in college at Clemson now flying all over the over the country well spoken good-looking Christian But very from the things I've seen delivers things whether you agree with it or not very calmly and friendly and There are other people like this on the right particularly Gen Zers young people and you compare that with what's out there Who's speaking to Gen Z on the left?

And by and large, what I can see is people who are perhaps very well-intentioned, but are very angry.

And there's a lot of yelling and a lot of screaming and a lot of indignation over Donald Trump.

Now, all those things may be justified, but the question I want to get into later this hour is, is that sustainable and how is it working?

Because

As recently as 12, 13 years ago, when I was working to block up the street in the state Capitol, my former party, which I left in 2011, they spent a lot of time trying to pass laws under the auspices of voter ID, which were nothing more than voter suppression.

And part of that was to suppress the vote on college campuses, because the thought was, well, you know, the college kids are all voting Democratic, or the majority are.

I think if you look at the 2024

election results, that ain't particularly true anymore.

And why is it that conservatives are starting to gain particularly among white males on our college campuses and liberals and Democrats are losing that argument on our college campuses?

I have some, I have a couple of different clips.

from social media, from Gen Z, gonna play for you a little bit later, and want you to weigh in, because I think it gets to, starts to get us down to a realistic discussion about how and why people are hearing certain things.

So we're gonna get into that in just a minute here.

Also gonna play another edition of What's Worse, Glasses or Contacts.

I've had both.

But right now at 13 past the hour of three o'clock time once again.

Well, let me just set that up again.

I'll be so glad this week is over right now is 13 minutes past the hour of three o'clock time once again to play civic medias green and gold text to win multi-state contest.

Here is how we play.

If you don't have it, download the Civic Media app on your Apple or Android device.

It's free.

It takes less than a minute.

It's what Gale King calls a deal.

Open it up.

First, 10 stations is where you'll find us.

Choose one of those.

Open that up.

You'll see a little text icon in the lower right-hand corner.

I'm gonna give you a word in just a moment.

Text that word on the Civic Media app.

Up for grabs today.

Somebody today is gonna win $200 cash and gold jewelry.

And everybody will be eligible to win the one grand prize to club level indoor seats to Green Bay versus Minnesota.

It's a Green Bay home game November 23rd of this year at noon.

Plus a gas card to get you to the game.

It has a value of $1,550.

It is a multi-stake contest.

Here is the word.

To text in right now, you have until four o'clock.

Today's word is metal, metal, M-E-T-A-L.

Make sure you type it correctly.

You have the right spelling for the word I just said, metal.

M is a merry, E, T is an Todd, A, L. Not another word that sounds very, very similar, but metal as in.

Gold is a metal.

Is it though?

Or is it or is it like a mineral or something?

Aaron Zommerns

It's metal.

Todd Alba

I'm pretty sure.

All right.

So metal M E T as in Todd A L. You must spell it correctly.

The computer will not recognize a close proximity close as they say only counts in horseshoes.

and grenades, but not in civic media's text to win green and gold multi-state contest.

Today's word for this hour, metal.

M-E-T is Todd, A-L, metal.

Text it right now.

Good luck, everybody.

Sometimes I crack myself up because the attorneys on the 12th floor, they don't like to be horsing around, and so we're pre-acquiring these now, so I don't goof up.

We do that bit before we start the show so if you're watching the stream like why can I hear time?

But I don't see him talking it's because they're pre-recorded right before we go on the end today Today we actually had to stop the taping because I messed up So no no horsing around Zombers no horsing around.

Aaron Zommerns

Yeah, you'll hear that version I think tomorrow tomorrow that particular one

Todd Alba

by the way tomorrow great guest lined up Alex Madorsky

It's good.

It's gonna be here talking about the stewardship fund the Knowles Nelson stewardship fund and Boy, don't we need more information on that because that's a great program that's in danger of not continuing Alex Badorsky from the Nature Conservancy

We'll be here, and also our old friend Sean Fetaplace, who will be here at his capacity as National Campaigns Director for Main Street Action on the budget reconciliation coming up out in D.C.

and the government shutdown, the impending one, how it'll impact healthcare.

So, in fairness, we recorded those today, because tomorrow, so no calls tomorrow, because I think you heard me maybe say I was talking to Jane McNair.

Dad's having a little minor oral surgery, so I'm going up to be with them tomorrow in Shawno.

So I'll be all new content, and we're going to give you the green and gold word tomorrow.

So tune in for that.

And then we'll be back from Shawno on Wednesday with an all new live program.

All right, time once again to play What's Worst.

Let's go.

Time once again for what's worse nothing in way no prize money involved But it is your chance to have your voice heard of all ten news talking sports stations in the civic media already network.

All right Timely timely indeed as Michael Lucas says I have had both It's not girlfriends versus boyfriends

Aaron Zommerns

Although

Todd Alba

although I've had both what's worse the category today glasses or contacts

glasses or Contacts 8 5 5 7 5 2 4 8 4 2 8 5 5 7 5 2 4 8 4 2 Zomers you and I both have glasses on have you ever had Contacts

Aaron Zommerns

I have when I was younger and like fifth and sixth grade really

Todd Alba

that's unusual

Aaron Zommerns

yeah, well the reason is because I took dance classes as a kid and

The dances get more vigorous as you get older.

And so we were thinking, you know, maybe you should do contact so I can go on stage and not have to

Todd Alba

worry

Aaron Zommerns

about my glasses flying off my face.

I hated it.

Really?

It didn't work?

We can get into why,

Todd Alba

but... Now, if you were in the Betty Hayes School of Dance and Rich Link Center, Betty was... You're not allowed to wear glasses.

Not allowed?

No.

They were not allowed on stage.

Aaron Zommerns

See, my vision is so terrible that I needed contact.

Todd Alba

Even in

Aaron Zommerns

fifth and sixth grade, whatever, I would have needed something.

Todd Alba

What's worse, glasses or contacts?

Glasses or contacts?

855-752-4842-855-752-4842.

Could also text us on the aforementioned Civic Media app, download it today, or Apple or Android device.

It's free.

Takes less than a minute.

It's what CBS's Gale King calls a deal.

I tuned into CBS.

They have a new set, which somehow is smaller.

It looks smaller than the old one.

That's a whole another cup of coffee on National Coffee Day.

Come on back.

Your phone calls 855-752-4842 glasses or contacts.

What's worse?

And why I feel liberals are losing the war on campus.

Unknown (segment excerpt)

I can see clearly now the rain is gone.

I can see all obstacles in my way.

Gone are the dark clouds that had me blind.

It's gonna be bright, bright, bright, on shiny

Todd (host)

days.

Bright sunshine it is bright and sunny here at the world headquarters Pacific media downtown Madison capital city of the great state of Wisconsin 23 now past the hour of three o'clock right in the middle of today's what's worse glasses or Contacts glasses or Contacts 8 5 5 7 5 2 4 8 4 2 8 5 5 7 5 2 4 8 4 2 Mary

On the text line on listening on WM DX out of the beautiful city of Mount Horep Maybe a village Mount Horep City or village.

I bet it's a village, but we'll see And Mount Hore Mary says I have a hybrid answer Contacts that still require you to use readers the wonderful option that comes with aging.

Well, yeah, right?

I had cataract surgery a couple three years ago, and I don't have to wear glasses to drive, but to read.

Like you see here, they're kind of a higher end reader.

Somers (contributor)

Yeah, I actually, in my two most recent eye doctor appointments, they had me check if having like the little, not quite bifocals, but magnifiers in the bottom halves would work better.

And I'm like, man, my eyes

Todd (host)

suck.

Kevin and beautiful Omro.

I've been to Omro, beautiful Omro.

Kevin listening on WISS out of Oshkosh says, contacts are worse.

Ripped my cornea.

Oh my gosh.

And no warranty.

I'm sorry to hear that, Kevin.

I hope everything is, is okay now.

Yeah.

I mean, you, certainly you got to use, like I said, there's a period of time I had contacts for a while and,

And now, depending upon your prescription, some of you can keep in for up to a week or whatever without taking them out.

That's crazy to me.

Yeah, but don't just say, well, I heard that on Todd's show.

Your ophthalmologist or optician has to tell you that you're the right candidate.

It's a special kind of lens, a special kind of drops.

But yeah, it's a lot more work than glasses.

But to your earlier point, Somers, if you're an active person outside,

Somers (contributor)

Right, or you can as one of the pictures on the brewers you can have essentially goggles with your prescription in them, but those look goofy as hell But I think they look kind of cool on on on some of these yeah, I just mean I wouldn't want to wear that all day every day.

Todd (host)

Oh, no, no Eight five five seven five two four eight four two eight five five seven five two four eight four two

Uh, Megan, where's Megan there?

Uh, speaking of things I can't read, Zomers has a little, you know, what does Megan have to say there?

Somers (contributor)

Uh, Megan, our own Megan here in the office says, I also hate wearing contacts.

I only wear them for special occasions now, but high school, me tried to wear them all day long because I hated my glasses back then.

Life is so much easier in glasses.

Todd (host)

Yeah, I think I agree with that.

And now glasses are pretty cool.

I mean, all kinds of different weights and all kinds of stuff.

8-5-5-7-5-2-4-8-4-2.

Let's go to the phone lines.

Gary, getting her done in beautiful Sussex.

Gary, thanks for calling.

Glasses are contacts.

What's worse?

Gary from Sussex (caller)

Well, I can't say what's worse is worse, but I can say what's better.

Glasses are better.

For one reason, I look smarter.

I don't wear my glasses.

I don't look this much.

People do respect me more.

My wife, she wears contacts.

When she sneezes, she sometimes pops her contact out.

She can't find it, or it goes back up in her eyelid.

So yeah, I'll take glasses.

I'm a heating contractor, so I, all over the place, I'd rather get a chip in my glass or my plastic lens than getting something in my eyeball.

All right.

But I do want to make a comment about what you were talking about earlier, if I can.

Todd (host)

Sure.

We're going to do this after the upcoming farm report, but we're talking more.

What we're going to get into is whether Gen Z, the young people, whether conservatives are winning the kind of, I don't want to, we can't use war anymore because that.

bringing up all kinds of bad stuff.

But the conservatives are winning the game of trying to get people to sign up for the Republican side versus the liberal side of college campuses.

Go ahead.

Gary from Sussex (caller)

About a year ago, I noticed that some of these colleges, they're having revival.

I mean, Christian revivals in these colleges, these kids want something.

I mean, they're looking for something at that age, 18, 19.

What are they going to do with their life?

Christian people, like you and I talked earlier, are just happier people.

Now, I want to say something about this Charlie Kirk thing.

I find it interesting.

I've been asking a lot of older people, have you ever, do you know who Charlie Kirk is?

And he said, oh, absolutely.

I said, before he was murdered, did you ever hear of him?

Never.

Well, he is more popular in death than he is when he was alive, at least with people.

Now, I saw him because I would, once in a while, I'd see him on Fox, but I never sat there and turned on a podcast with him.

But what I do now is I go back and I look at some of these.

Go ahead.

Todd (host)

Because I'm up against the clock.

I want to get your reaction to this.

I don't disagree with anything you're saying, but I've talked to people that also really never heard of him.

But do you do you also agree or disagree that it depends on where you get your information and news from or what you listen or watch as to what you thought of him?

Gary from Sussex (caller)

Of course, he was on Fox, people on Fox and what I've seen on Fox.

He was like I thought he was going to become president of the United States someday not like in the next 10 years but someday because this guy just But

Todd (host)

and it's interesting interesting time if you watch listen to certain things all you heard about him is talking about his Quote quote Christian values if you watched his podcast or other things you heard him talking about more divisive opinions on social issues and I think they're in it depends on what people listen to watch and and

people have strong opinions because they say, well, he never said that.

Well, he did, but you just never saw it.

And that's what I thought was fascinating.

Gary from Sussex (caller)

I do go back and I on YouTube and I watched a lot of his debates with these young kids.

I don't, I never watched the podcast.

But

Todd (host)

he

Gary from Sussex (caller)

was really calm.

These people at this colleges are very disrespectful to them.

And he just was very nice back.

I thought

Todd (host)

Gary always appreciate your perspective and call.

Stay tuned.

We're going to continue this conversation on the other side.

Who is winning the messaging on college campuses in Wisconsin in America.

It's the all ball show in the civic media radio network.

Host

Wherever it may lead and having fun doing it.

Welcome back to the title of all show of the Civic Media Network 35 minutes now past the hour of three o'clock on a Monday, September 29th, 2025.

Glad to have you along.

Aaron Zommer is a great producer engineer on the board right in the middle of today's green and gold text to win multi-state contest.

The word to text in via the Civic Media app is metal.

Metal as in something is made of metal Emma's and Mary E T as in Todd a L Metal make sure that you spell that correctly and not something else Metal is the word to you text to text in right now in the civic media app Up for grabs today our daily prize of $200 cash and gold jewelry

Everybody gets entered in for the grand prize of two club level indoor seats to Green Bay versus Minnesota.

The word is metal.

Text it in right now.

You have until four o'clock.

And then Maggie and Pete love a word a little bit later on in the day.

All right, this is something I want to get into and I want to have a good discussion on it.

I just find it fascinating.

Like one of the things that as I said, I'm trying to do more of is be more reflective myself of this show And like what am I doing to enhance discussions?

Or am I harming it?

Am I throwing gasoline on it or am I helping to bring?

Understanding and that's not to say that I think I have all the answers It's how can I foster a discussion that brings out truthful dialogue so

One of the things that fascinates me are the, how Republicans, how Trump won Wisconsin again.

And when I was working in the legislature 12, 15 years ago, my former party, I left the Republican party in 2011, they were trying to suppress the vote on college campuses because they said young people tend to vote more democratic.

Summer is your 26.

Do you think that's still, I'm not looking at data, but just give me your gut.

Do you think that's still true today that 50% plus one of people your age tend to vote more democratic?

Aaron Zomers (Producer)

I think for women, absolutely.

I think for men, it's sliding hard in

Host

the

Aaron Zomers (Producer)

opposite direction.

And quick.

Host

Yeah.

I think that's fascinating.

I hear, you know, one of the cool things is, you know, that I have two gods sons, and I don't talk a lot of politics to them right now, because number one, they're out of the state.

But when you hang out and I have two I have two nieces who are in that category and I don't think you're wrong zombers and so one of the reasons that I feel that way is because of how young people are being talked to with an act and you can have two categories you have the social media platforms and Then you have like the live in-person discussions, right?

So I chose a couple not really randomly randomly

But here's one of the things I looked at is that on the left, and we get algorithms, this is a whole other show, but you choose something on Instagram or Facebook or Twitter, and the algorithm recognizes that, and so it feeds you more things to look at that you're already, so it reinforces your natural biases.

Aaron Zomers (Producer)

Because it wants you to spend as much time on there as possible.

Host

Right.

And so that's built in.

So if you consume media from, and I consume both, probably more left than right, if I'm being honest.

But there's a lot, and the thing I notice on the left, these young people in their 20s, is they come on, a lot of it's in their car.

You know, I don't get all that, why now you have to do stuff in your car, but you do.

And there's a lot of anger.

And I get that because look, I spent a lot of time on this show in 2024, warning people that this is the existential choice, democracy or authoritarianism.

And I think that people on the left now feel because Donald Trump got a second term, they feel like it's well, it's all over because you told me that it was an existential choice that democracy is.

And I think there's a lot of hopelessness.

and a lot of anger, like how do we change this?

And so here, this is a woman who goes by Madeleine.

She appears to be in her early 20s.

This was reposted on an anti-Trump Twitter site, but this is a TikTok post from Madeleine.

Gonna play you the whole thing and then we'll play you somebody on the conservative side.

So this is from Madeleine on TikTok.

Madeleine from TikTok

It was just announced that they're going to send the military out against United States citizens in Portland.

Two days ago, there was an executive order signed stating that they're going to increase the surveillance and crackdowns on Intifa, which is simply anybody who is anti-fascist.

We are also missing over 1,200 people from these detention centers.

1,200 people are missing.

And you think that they care about people standing around in the streets with signs?

Are you finally going to listen to all of us who have been saying for months that the time for that is over.

It doesn't work anymore.

They don't care.

They don't care.

They don't care.

We also don't have midterms.

We don't have over a whole year.

We're only nine months in and there's almost a full consolidation of power.

Come on.

A

Host

lot of passion.

Obviously a lot of anger and there's a lot of guys not just women but guys doing the same type of thing and I found one that there wasn't swearing because there's usually a lot of swearing in these and that's fine passion online But I'm struck by a couple of things that one zombers I saw the same thing when the Supreme Court overturned Roe v Wade and there were a lot of wonderful very earnest young women at the state Capitol who were doing interviews and saying

We cannot do this.

We are the United States.

They cannot do this to us.

And as someone who worked in politics, I thought, well, actually they can.

And I think that there are consequences when people don't go and vote.

And there are consequences when people want to protest on college campuses and talk about Gaza and Palestine and say, well, I can't vote for Joe Biden.

I have to go and interrupt Kamala Harris.

I can't vote for Kamala Harris because she's quote unquote, the lesser of two evils.

And then come back like this young woman, very earnest and passionate and say, well, we can't stand for this.

We can't wait for midterm elections.

Oh, well, what's your what's your option?

I don't I have no idea if she voted I have no idea who she voted for but writer agree or disagree zombers I think it represents people on the left who are Angry and protest but then don't want to vote because their candidate Isn't perfect on all their litmus tests.

Aaron Zomers (Producer)

Well, I will say overall.

Yes with this individual I don't know anything about

Host

we don't

Aaron Zomers (Producer)

know she may have voted for Harris.

She may not have I will say

I think that this frustration is still justified.

It's just

Madeleine from TikTok

what do you

Aaron Zomers (Producer)

do with it?

Madeleine from TikTok

Because

Aaron Zomers (Producer)

it does feel like nobody cares, like all the rules are gone.

Like what the hell are we supposed to do to, you know, have any positive effect on the world?

And so I get where it's coming from.

Host

Yeah, I'm not, I'm not bad mouthy to her earnestness or her anger or not saying it's justified.

Just saying that's what you see out a lot on social media.

Now, on the other side, here's this kid, a brilliant Holly hand.

who is kind of billing himself, not overtly, not in name, but essentially as the next Charlie Kirk was the acolyte of Charlie Kirk is very popular as 227, 222,000 followers on Twitter.

He is talking in a recent post about Gen Z.

Brilliant Holleyhand from Twitter

It's amazing that President Trump's back in the Oval Office.

It's amazing that Republicans have control of Congress.

It is.

You see, those are short-term fixes on a long-term cultural problem, though.

It's wonderful that Gen Z shifted the pendulum to the right in this cycle.

How do we keep Gen Z behind the GOP going forward?

For this to be a generational shift and not a one-time change.

There was frustration that prompted my generation to get behind President Trump.

How do we turn that frustration into achievements?

Well, that's what the president's done for the past nine months.

Host

That is brilliant.

Holly hand at a recent and he's flying all over the country doing in person types of events.

And so I just thought to myself, well, do some research time and figure it.

So I put into Google, who are the Gen Z liberals speaking on campus?

This is this is the not saying that Google has all the answers.

But here's that.

Here's the what I got back.

There is no single equivalent group of prominent Gen Z liberals speaking that tour college campuses with the same high profile organized approach as conservative groups like Turning Point USA.

Instead, young liberal voices on campuses are more often represented by student led movements, activists and influencers who primarily use social media to organize and broadcast their views.

And so I think it was your point, Zomers, that what do you do with your anger?

What do you do with your frustration?

Look a peaceful protest.

That's people's right right under the Constitution But that has to be transformed into action of signing up people and turning them out to the polls and in my opinion It can't be a litmus test of oh well if this person isn't a hundred percent pro-choice They're not good enough.

We're not voting for them if this individual won't pledge

to defund ourselves from Israel, then I'm not gonna vote for that person.

As someone who worked in politics a long time, ran races, lost some, won a lot, you can't play a zero-sum game and expect to have political success long-term.

Aaron Zomers (Producer)

I think part of it is the slow erosion of education and civics in schools, where kids...

And I include myself in this, despite being an adult.

You know, people, Gen Z and

Host

Younger.

Young

Aaron Zomers (Producer)

people, yeah.

Don't all understand how the government works.

They're not taught much of it.

And social media distracts all of us so much.

And the internet and everything that we don't know that it takes so long.

And the thought is always, well, why is it so slow?

Because that's the way we've done it.

Why do we have to do things the way we've done it?

Why can't we just do what's right?

Host

855-752-4842.

Let's go to the phone lines.

Cam listening to WISS and Oshkosh out of Appleton.

Cam, thanks for calling in.

Let's see.

Cam from Appleton (caller)

Hey, so there's actually a lot of left-wing social media personalities that aren't involved with any of the PACs, like Brian Tyler Cohen's PACs that he created.

But something I wanted to point out was that you have people that do participate in that PAC that Tyler Brian Cohen has, like David Pakman.

who covered an interview with Election Truth Alliance reviewing the actual data from the 2024 election.

And he's not allowed to post about anything without verifying it through Tyler Brown Cohen's PAC First, which goes through the Dems directly, who then all give a yes or a no to things being posted.

So they signed off on this.

on the um election hack information saying yeah go ahead and talk about it and I feel like that did more of a justice for people from my generation and below than any of this discussion is doing because I feel like you're you're playing like um just random voice lines and then saying see loud and shrill versus I'm

Host

playing I'm playing I'm playing examples of I mean I've been I've been watching this stuff since the election camp and I guess I consume way too much I mean I do care to share how old you are

I'm 29.

So you're 29.

So do you feel that there are people on the left speaking to you that motivate you to vote?

And do you, I mean, I'm assuming you're not in college anymore.

I'm not, I mean, but a long time since I, I'm just looking at who's speaking to people at college campuses.

And I think that there are a lot, I'm hearing this tangentially from people that have white straight male kids, college age, that are saying, you know,

They feel left out of the political process and part of the reason they're voting conservatively is because they feel that that gives them an avenue That they feel left out of the left.

Do you think that's fair unfair?

Cam from Appleton (caller)

I Don't think that that's fair at all.

That's I see that stuff and I see that there's a lot of it pushed by bots on social media

Host

And I think that's a fair thing to say.

Absolutely.

Come on back.

We'll continue this discussion on social media, on messaging to young people.

And what's next?

Todd (host)

Welcome back to the title of all show on the civic media already network now eight minutes before the hour of four o'clock at the top of the hour ABC or CPS news depending upon which far great stations you're listening to Whether update with our great weather team could be nice all week hot sunny summer like enjoy it because fall is coming after this weekend And then the fantastic reporter nobody does it better than Mike Clemens when it comes to sports.

He was down in Dallas last night

40 40 tie Not good at all Mike has the details for you in the sports report followed by another a great addition to the Maggie Dawn show from Four until six and another great edition of nightlight with Pete Schwab and from six until eight They will both have a new text to win green and gold text to win word for you our word good until four o'clock metal

Text the word metal M E T A L metal is the text to win word until four o'clock fabulous cash and prizes are up for grabs talking about and look I'm getting a lot of I love the fact they have a lot of hot takes Because I think it it it helps me understand that this is something I think a lot of us are thinking about But maybe not talking about

And I'm not here to tell you that I think I have all the answers on this.

I just think self-reflection is good, and I think how we talk about things and is it working is a good exercise.

And I think when it comes to young people on college campuses, I think the left has, and many of it, justifiable anger, but that's all it is.

And I don't think that anger

is a long-term viable political strategy.

You have to give people something to vote for, to rally for, to be hopeful for.

And I'm not saying I agree with how the right is doing it.

I'm just saying to Zommer's point earlier, it is having a successful effect with particularly young white straight males in college campuses.

And the social media algorithms

that are bombarding most of us have a dramatic effect on that.

And I don't think that any of us, including me, fully understands what's going on.

855-752-4842, 855-752-4842.

Let's go quickly to the old Facebook.

People watch on Facebook.

Heather, up in beautiful Eau Claire, says, I'm baffled just as you are.

I've spoken with friends who say they talk with friends about the exact same speech that was given, but their algorithm shows them a totally different segment of the speech.

Same topic, same speech, way different takes on it.

Depending on what you click on, the invisible internet controllers are dividing people.

That sounds like a woo woo weird stuff, but where is it coming from?

Boss hackers?

I agree with my little sister.

And a lot of this is from foreign adversaries who are pitting us against ourselves.

Yep.

855-752-4842.

Charles, listening on AUK and Milwaukee.

Charles, thanks for calling.

Let's say

Charles from Milwaukee (caller)

you.

Hey, hey Todd.

So my kids, my kids are old enough to vote.

And we talk.

I don't expect my kids to go on social media or listen to a podcast or to get their information.

I talked to them about the importance of voting and what it means for us, especially having black sons and black daughters.

If my boys know their worth and they know that their sisters, they're not in competition with their sisters.

Now, if these young white men don't know their worth, then that sounds like a home problem that they haven't been taught to feel good about themselves.

And they haven't been taught that you respect women.

If it wasn't for your mother, you wouldn't be here.

And they're going to the college campuses.

What are they talking to these young white men about?

Are they talking to them about the great white replacement theory?

But that's a huge thing out there right now, you know, are we having too many black and brown people in this country?

Are they gonna wipe away the white race?

I mean ignorant stuff like that when African Americans only represent I think 12% of the US population,

Todd (host)

right?

Charles, I wish we don't don't hang up I wish we had more time because I always love your perspective This is really important stuff a I couldn't agree with you more that there are problems at home, but you can't legislate that necessarily

B, I have attended any of these rallies.

It's just stuff I read or watch or whatever.

But to your point, my sense is that these more conservative groups are giving young white straight men a sense of belonging.

Now, it might be the wrong kind of belonging, but I think that they are feeling a need for belonging.

And on the left, would you agree or disagree, Charles, that sometimes I'm not trying to paint with a broad brush, but sometimes on the left,

in trying to promote their own cause, they're doing it at the expense of not bringing other people along.

And so people that aren't part of the cause feel ostracized.

Is that fair or unfair?

Charles from Milwaukee (caller)

No, no, that's fair.

And I can see how people would think that, that, well, they're not trying to help me out.

You know, they're only concerned about women, or we've been told that they're only concerned about trans people.

I just still say Todd, your people at home, family members, have to talk to you and have to talk to you about the right thing.

Yeah, 100%.

And like I said, if you're a young man and you don't understand your words, then that's a, I think that's a family problem.

You know, this whole manager thing.

I don't drive a pickup truck.

I don't walk around like a manly man with my shirt off.

But I guarantee you, I can get stuff done.

Todd (host)

But

Charles from Milwaukee (caller)

but isn't it walk around saying I'm a I'm a mentally man right

Todd (host)

nor do my boys but Charles to get to your point or at least my perception It's how parents tell their kids of particular sons what it means to be a man Right, it's not about your appearance or your strength or your physical strength.

It's it's your character It's who you are inside.

Will your friends and family respect you?

Isn't that what it's supposed to be about Charles?

Charles from Milwaukee (caller)

That's what he has taught.

But that's not what we're getting out here today.

100%.

Yeah.

Todd (host)

Wish we had more time, Charles.

I always appreciate you, my friend.

Thank you for your perspective.

Great show.

Come out tomorrow.

I hope you join us then.

Maggie Dawn is next.

Whatever you're fighting for, whatever you believe in, do not give up.

Keep banging your drum.

We'll see you tomorrow.
